This is truly amazing. To be able to sell this for $6800 is incredible. Power window/lock, ABS, traction control. AC, cruise control, airbags, 5 star safety rating. I think that what impressed me the most is that it seems a 3 wheeled vehicle is usually designed and brought to market without all the extra safety measures because it can. It doesn't have to conform to the safety ratings of an automobile. This is not the case with Elio. Plus the fact that it is built and sourced in America, and could potentially create 1500 jobs, this is a great story.

I've been all in for some time and quietly cheering on Elio from the sidelines. The naysayers are losers. And guess what? Even if this car never comes to market, I would still say good try! But I do believe 100% that Elio will deliver. The naysayers exemplify the modern era of anti-American, whining 1% haters, want-it-now drones. Elio exemplifies yesteryear's can-do, American exceptionalism that brought innovative, consumer-desired, profitable products to market and made America great. Yup, it's taking a little longer to come to market, but I see zero reason to question the integrity, drive, passion and unwavering commitment of the executive team to complete this awesome mission. Good job Paul Elio and team!

I think ELIO ready needs to make the engine/trans bay wide enough so a broad range of engine swaps could be done. Additionally I feel that widening the body slightly to allow such would make for more interior space and would help the ELIO appeal to a far greater range of people from a usability and safety standpoint. I think the ELIO unless it gets widened slightly is going to make parents leery. Parents envisioning (right so) of their kid being in a ELIO and getting hit BROADSIDE by a SUV, truck, heck pretty much anything. (Think about being in the backseat of a ELIO that gets hit by a SUV... Think about the difference a couple of inches would make!) .

Being in Ohio where snow is a problem, are those wheel wells going to get packed with snow and ice?
@TheThingamajig8 жыл бұрын
The fenders turn along with the tire so as long as they rotate (and they're powered), shouldn't be too much of a hassle. Some car manufacturer a long time ago *1960s?* made a car that was "stylish" but had rigid fender-wheel-well things that were basically skirts for the front wheels that did not turn with the tire, and those were a big problem in snow, as you lost your steering. These should be fine.
@1000crazypeople8 жыл бұрын
Ah, okay. Thank you
@mikemotta97548 жыл бұрын
The fenders can be removed easily. So in heavy snow the fenders can come off and under normal conditions can be put back on. This had actually come from an Elio rep when i asked about reliability in snow.
@richtrost26768 жыл бұрын
They do come off easily as shown on one of the videos. What are the odds that you come out of WalMart to discover both fenders are missing? Hope they, at a minimum, have a proprietary fastener head.

If this thing DOES ever makes it to market, the folks making the Polaris Slingshot ($21,000) will NOT be too happy.
@WeAreNotAlone698 жыл бұрын
Hope before the design is set in stone that someone at ELIO has the sense to make the engine compartment wide and big enough to accept other power-trains and seriously consider widening the body slightly. Why? I.A.V. engine is unproven, and alot of people are going to want more POWER, others might want a diesel, etc. Note: This might involve making the engine compartment, or the ELIO body slightly wider. Pros to making the ELIO slightly wider? Beyond it making it easier to swap in another drive-train: Nice to have a couple more inches of crush room when a SUV, Truck... heck a regular car hits you BROADSIDE. Think about that....long and hard. Such would also increase interior space, heck as currently designed the trunk is only 14 inches wide! Widening the body would also frankly make the ELIO look better as well. Cons? Beyond the extra weight and cost of the steel pros far out weigh the cons, doubt drag (or price) would increase much. Widening the body slightly would also help in making the ELIO appeal to a wider audience of people, both from a usability and safety standpoint. Parents for example would feel safer about their kids having or being in a ELIO, body being slightly wider might mean the difference of life or death... especially for rear passenger! Another suggestion since they're now going to stamp the ELIO out of galvanized steel: Use Cor-ten steel... Go as thick as you can with the galvanizing and /or gauge of steel used! * ELIO states gas mileage at 49 city, 84 hwy... say making the body slightly wider reduces this to 48 city, 82.5 hwy... I think that is a good trade-off to keep that bumper of that SUV out of my lap and the lap of the passenger. (Think how more comfortable a passenger would feel if the ELIO was slightly wider . I know I wouldn't want to be in the back in a wreck.)
