The worst god damn company I’ve ever dealt with in my life. I’ve had the same experience that others have mentioned. Ordered a pair of shoes which took 3 months to arrive, which did not fit. When I asked about exchanging them, I was told that the next size up was not in stock and so I’d have to wait ANOTHER 3 months to get a shoe that was a half size larger. I eventually returned these shoes to get a refund but was told they were “worn” and my money could not be refunded...I wore them one time on my carpet (per their instructions) and yet this apparently has put them into condition damaged beyond the point of return. I’m so furious with this garbage company. It’s been almost a year, I’m out $300, and I STILL don’t have a pair of shoes!!!!

same here no even exchange. First shoe - Sizing issue and they will refund me the promo price 299 that I have paid during the preorder and currently, these shoes are 425 so I am expected to pay additional 125 to get the right size. I don't plan to do anything with them

@@redx603 Not doing an even exchange is unacceptable. Such a horrible way to treat a customer. After reading reviews and gathering feedback on the quality and customer service, I'm going to have to go in another direction. They've got a 30% off deal going and with the pre-order, it was another 20% off. Still not worth it in the end. A solid, fair return policy is the most important aspect of an online product purchase. Sorry you had to go through what you did.

For that price I think something like Carmina or J. FitzPatrick is much better. They're good year welted too. Paul Evans sounds like a ripoff. Also, I'm not a fan at all of the Paul Evans silhouette. The lasts have no personality.

Having owned and handled all three, 100% agree. The patina looks nice when you get but is only surface level and looks rough after a year or less sometimes. As others said, they do a lot of questionable pricing games, that I have watched over the years. Like they are $399 then bam, $449-499 when they have a 50% off code available etc.

Paul Evans is definitely overpriced. I think some of their shoes look pretty nice, but in terms of leather quality, and construction... I have a pair of Meermin seconds I got for under $100, and the Meermins are definitely just better. I really feel like Kav's shilling a bit here.

I was fortunate in that my experience was different with the two pairs of shoes I bought. I ordered the shoes with a 30% discount and had them in about a week...no issues. The only glitch was my not reading the sizing guide more carefully. I did not see the order a full size down...so a family member lucked out with two new pairs of shoes. I reordered one pair but was only able to get a 10% discount.

Heard their customer service tactics are shady..Telling people after waiting months for their shoes and wanting to return them that they have "been worn" etc and there is no refund..I cant confirm that so it's anectodal.. What I can say is they are misleading in saying that if a shoe is "unavailable" you pre-order..Lol, I looked at their site several times and its all pre-order there is no "in stock". I'm not into games...Thus imo this is shady to begin with and a non starter... Just my 2 cents....

No hassles at all; got one replacement immediately, and the other within a couple of weeks. I was very careful with the original pairs, and they credited me fully for them without a word. I didn't get a whiff of anything shady from dealing with them.

I'm looking to buy a pair of used Paul Evans Stewart Penny Loafer and I'm confused on what size to order. I wear a size 11D in Allen Edmonds and you said to order a size down. The confusing part is you said you wear a 12 in Allen Edmonds but you ordered a size 10.5 in Paul Evans. That would be 1.5 size down not 1 size. So in your opinion would you recommend me get a 10 or 9.5 in Paul Evans if I wear a size 11D in Allen Edmonds?

Ok. My 2 cents. I heard of the issues with pre-ordering from their website so back when their prices were generally $425 I took advantage of sale and avoided pre-order, so I got the marrone chelsea boots instead of the oxblood. The patina was not as strong as I saw in the picture, and they smelled..... questionable when I opened the box (they really didn't smell good). I would argue that their chisel lasts are far more interesting than their oxfords and such. Really not worth the full price, but I can say that they have really gotten me compliments, and if the recrafting company they suggest for $125 full recraft does a good job in the future, that would be better imo than buying a new comparably styled shoe at $200

@matthewl.5612
@matthewl.5612 5 жыл бұрын
@@masonklein Hi sorry I cannot make a video but there are other reviews on different colors of the same boot. However I am glad to offer more details: I completely agree with Jon on the quality of the leather. With some Saphir the leather really pops and has an unbeatable depth at the price point, assuming you can get 50% off = $250 (they are in a whole new league compared to Beckett Simonon at $170. They shine up nicely and the questionable leather smell I mentioned disappears after a while. In terms of creasing it is light and is the kind reminiscent of a luxury leather shoe. The elastic is great and holds up well. The sole finishing is excellent and the heels give a satisfying tapping sound that give you a presence of power when you walk in them. They are comfortable for dress shoes. They don't pinch and the leather softens extremely well to your feet as they break in. In terms of sizing I went 1/2 size larger than what they suggested but that worked with me with a 1/4 size of extra room for my normal width feet. The sides of the boot hug your ankles nicely and don't leave much extra room. I use a shoe horn to get them on almost every time and keep shoe horn in them for at least 24hrs after a day of wear. So to recap they are completely worth at 50% off but I can't speak for pre-ordering. lemme know if you have any questions

I just got a pair of PE wholecuts myself and am quite disappointed by the narrow lasts (which was hard to tell in all the videos I've seen, wish Kavalier would have commented!). The toe box is much too long, yet if I go any smaller in size then my pinkie/ring toes would be cramped. I measured the proportions vs my AE Park Aves (in E width, i.e. slightly wide, but not EEE), and they are *significantly* more narrow. Unfortunately, these simply don't work with my feet, and PE doesn't offer any other widths (or lasts) for the style. It'll be a return for me--really hoping I don't have to deal with the nightmare others have here! Guess I'll try Ace Marks for the style (whole cuts) and hope they're better--? Anyone else have any solid reccos on quality wholecuts (in burgundy)? Meermin, which I like, has a pair but I have the same issue (Meermin only has it in their narrow last, and not the "Hiro" last that I really like & works well, as it's similar to AE's 65 last). P.S. both the shipping and return processes for PE aren't free--basically I'm having to pay $27 just to try on their shoes! 1) I even live in NYC--what happened to their store?? 2) It's 2019, and this is a DTC company with different sizes for people to try on. Please "step up your shipping game," Paul Evans

Based on what? I own both pairs Jon reviewed here, and I can tell you that they are, indeed, made of much-superior leather than any of the lower-priced alternatives. They will take a shine better than any of the brands people mention in these comments, and they look far more expensive than they are. The secret is to buy them on sale. Put it this way...something like Allen Edmonds looks like cinder blocks (high-quality cinder blocks, but cinder blocks). Paul Evans look Italian. Give them a shot.

I have both - I'd say the lasts on some models are incredibly similar, however the leather quality on the Ace Marks is quite inferior. The creasing on the AM's is not very pretty, whereas the PE's mimic what Kav says in the vid. The belts from each are near identical though, with a different buckle shape. I believe they come out of the same factory, just with different material quality to hit the price points.

I don't really like the platypus shape of the shoe in profile, even though it may conform to actual human feet. I prefer more of a gentle slope to the toe. But the leather has to be substantial or it will kind of collapse into...well, that platypus profile.

1. A nice shoe as expected, but in my option nothing special then AE. AceMark’s last is most elegant among them. My wholecut don’t have metal eyelet which I find unacceptable for a 400 shoe as the tension from laces will damage the leather eventually. 2. Their customer service is shocking: the First shoe, sizing issue, not crazy about the color but no even exchange even just the size. They will refund me the promo price 299 and currently, these shoes are not on sale so I can’t do any exchange unless I want to add $100. I have about 10 pair of similar shoe from different companies and never seen anything like this.

I like the review, but in my opinion whole cuts need a more interesting and sleeker last, otherwise it looks bad, boring or cheap.

I've owned 3 different pairs of Paul Evans so far since 2018, and they've all been great. Customer service seems to work with me with any issues, which so far have been my own fault because I ordered the wrong size once (was exchanged by them with no argument, despite their clear notices posted on the site stating that for anything purchased with the annual 40% off, the sale is final with no exchanges/refunds). I'll definitely be buying from them again! The leather is very soft and very easy to get a nice mirror shine. Also saw some comments about waiting 3+ months - this *may be the case when ordering them at 40% off, depending on your size, which is also pretty clearly posted when you're buying them. If your size is out of stock and on backorder, it says it right there before you pay the money. The first time I ordered was in January of 2018, and it took till April to come in, but I knew that before I pushed "buy". 2019 purchase came in very quickly since I ordered right away and they still had my size in stock.

Agree completely...I had similar experience with them. They look significantly more Italian (read: stylish) and expensive than many other shoes mentioned here. The secret is to get them on sale.

I think that’s very individual but I’ve been considering a video talking about my two tattoos. I should do that soon and get the discussion started.

I just got my park avenues and Bond Street by AE. In addition , acheson loafers by them. I may get carmina but I wanted to get these also. As of now, no because of all these reviews below

I dunno. Whole cuts just don't do it for me. Not much of a fan of black, and would much rather have a cap toe

Ever since brown became the new black, no one wears black. Which is part of the reason why I wear it.

I echo Ahmad. Never in stock and have to pre-order?? Definitely not worth $500...$300 max. They are not of the same quality or comfort level of Allen Edmonds at all. Getting the right size is total pain! Ace Marks are better value, much more imaginative in their designs and the sizing is straightforward. Allen Edmonds are easily the most comfortable of the three. I own all 3 brands.

Yea I agree. I bought a pair of Paul Evan's when they were deeply discounted around New Year's to try them out and I don't even wear the things now. The leather lining inside the loafer is garbage and they always give me blisters on the back of my heel. The suede is not as good as AE, the silhouette is off and the toe is weirdly pointy. I own like 20 pairs of AE's and they have always been extremely comfortable right out of the box. Paul Evan's customer service is terrible as well.

You all have saved me from a potential mess of a situation. Thank you. We all know that negative reviews tend to overcrowd positive ones in the minds of potential customers, but this many poor reviews just doesn't sit right with me. Everything from customer service, to a weird return policy, to the wait, to for quality. I've heard some good things, few great things, and far too many negative things at this point. I won't even go into my experience with them. Just glad to have stumbled upon these reviews and the comments. Nice-looking shoes, though.

Sounds like something is wrong with your order. I have several pairs of PE, and have never waited longer than a couple of months. Even with exchanges, honoring sale prices, etc., I've never gotten a whiff of anything shady in dealing with them.

Couple of comments: 1) 500$ for Italian made blake stitched shoes sounds insane - you can have HANDSTITCHED Vass shoes for that price 2) That elongated, flat toebox does not look flattering 3) Berluti is French brand ;) 4) I am no way shape or form in GYW church, I have santoni shoes which retail for 695$ and I think that they are worth 300-400$ max, with much more elegant look than those Paul Evans.

My suggestion to the Kavalier is to stop promoting Paul Evans through this video for the sake of maintaining your own credibility. The general consensus among buyers is that Paul Evans is a terrible company, shoes are overpriced and customer service is awful. On purpose they delayed my refund on the returned shoes, did not reply to my initial email inquiry regarding refunds. It seems they want to hold on to your money as long as they could as it gives them working capital, shady practice. They did not have the courtesy to acknowledge delay in processing refund. I had to dispute the transaction with bank, after that I received an email from Paul Evans customer service full of abusive language directed toward me. What kind of business abuses customers on the email!

Paul Evans shoes are shit. I would know i ordered 2 pairs of them. Their customer service is horrendous. Dont make my mistake. I switched to Allen Edmonds shoes and both the the shoe and customer service were so much better.

I dislike all this BS about size. If a shoe is a size off there’s a problem with the manufacturer not the customer. Also feel that Paul Evans are horrible value.
