For a guy who built himself on being a warp speed shredder, these days you see him noodling a lot more blues based, soulful licks, then exploding into shredder phrases that surprise you, and are placed with taste and excellent choice. His musical maturity astounds me.

I saw Paul play with Racer X at Jezebels in Anaheim when he was about 18 years old, he was all the talk in the So Cal scene. But I think Mr. Big tempered him, and he took his cues from Eddie Van Halen who never did the incessant noodling himself.

I can't stand his tone from the last decade or so, too muddy, soft, no bite, doesn't work for his playing. His abilities are always on point and fantastic but i miss the sharp shred tone he used to have, the last time he sounded good was around 2010 when he was experimenting with single coils.

Who's Rob Halford, Ian Gillan... then? DIO may have been the greatest to you, but given the sum of parts that make a good singer, DIO didn't have it all, nor in exactly the same way as others, and a portion of it is also subjective to the listener. He was great for sure, but I wouldn't call him the greatest, and there's no real way to narrow it down to just one "Greatest singer" anyhow. I can say that on "Sad wings of destiny" Rob Halford gives very many singers of varying styles a run for their money. He uses every technique in the book and then some on that album, and much of it is totally 🤯!

@2x2gaming Жыл бұрын
