Saw McCartney in Frankfurt, Germany 1989 (stationed in Darmstadt with the Army). It was right after he released this album and it was the greatest show I ever saw. This song means so much to me because it came out right after a nightmarish marriage that ended in divorce. She made me feel like I would never be happy again, and didn't deserve to be. He talked about it being a really Beatles kind of melody and style, especially that line "take me to that place", he said he could imagine him and John singing that line. And he used the Hofner bass. I think it's self aware about how Beatles of a song it is which is probably why the music video here has so much of the Beatles involved
@defaultc00kies633 жыл бұрын
I believe it's fully intentional. The song seems to be about John. The timing, the Beatle sound, the references in the video and those lines about being "alone again" and not finding his brave face fit perfectly. John and Paul had the habit of dropping those little hints when they were writing about/to each other. And Elvis Costello was the closest thing to a John personality among his solo collaborators. I think Paul wanted to tell us something without saying it in so many words.

I remember listening to this song a lot when one of my classmates' younger sister got killed in a car accident and this song woke me up and realized what wonderful, inspirational people this family was towards me and everyone who they came in contact with.

I love music... This song moves many things inside of me. I remember my father who taught me to love a lot of rythms, but definetily one of the best bands he taught me to love was The Beatles, and of course, my favourite Beatle always was Paul... so much that I named the first name of my son after him... Paul, but as I'm from Argentina, people used to say his name in the Spanish version... and I didn't like to listen the wrong pronunciation, so I just call him by other of his names. But Paul always inspired me tenderness, he's the kind of man you see and think "That's a good man!", a true gentleman, so polite. I remind in one of their concerts in Buenos Aires when a little girl went on stage and asked him to play the bass with him, and he became her dream true... I loved him more than ever... he's one of a kind!

This song is not merely underrated; when I strip it from the video and think about the words and about Flowers in the Dirt as a whole, this becomes plainly one of the greatest songs ever written.

The more time that passes,the more I relate to the collector in this video. Great song that should have hit the top ten in the US.

Totally agreed, sadly in 1989 people were flocking to superficial pop singers/groups like Milli Vanilli, Paula Abdul, New Kids on the Block as well as the hair bands like Guns 'N Roses and Bon Jovi, I guess Paul McCartney was no longer relevant to the pop crowd anymore.

@@Doobie1975 Definitely a great song that deserved a better commercial fate in the US. The changing marketplace definitely did not help.

I feel that My Brave Face was the last really big hit of McCartney's career. To me, it's the final time that he reached the level of his earlier Beatles and Wings classics. It has become another one of his ubiquitous tunes that's instantly recognizable anywhere.
