Totally agreed, sadly by 1989 people were flocking to Milli Vanilli, New Kids On The Block, Paula Abdul, Guns 'N Roses and Bon Jovi, I think people gave up on Paul after he released "Spies Like Us" (which was IMO a horrible song).

This song was a breathe of fresh air when it was released in ‘89. The mid ‘80’s weren’t kind to Paul. A lot of people thought Paul may have lost his touch. This song and the album Flowers in the Dirt showed that Paul still had his magic.

Saw McCartney in Frankfurt, Germany 1989 (stationed in Darmstadt with the Army). It was right after he released this album and it was the greatest show I ever saw. This song means so much to me because it came out right after a nightmarish marriage that ended in divorce. She made me feel like I would never be happy again, and didn't deserve to be. This song helped me to realize that I had to be brave and continue to live my life.

Hello there! I am from Darmstadt...! But moved to Dresden 19 years ago...as a born and raised "Heiner" I can confirm for sure that the people of DA have always considered the US troops their friends, and it wasn't to completely dry eyes when they withdrew from the town in 2009...and, in notoriously typical fashion, it took the City council some 10 years to convene upon what to do with the deserted premises and areas 😆

That's a very good point. Dylan, Van Morrison, Springsteen, and Neil Young are all great,but they do have a ton of songs that are very similar. Whereas Paul whether you like a song or not he doesn't keep copying himself,which is pretty remarkable after some 30 plus albums including The Beatles.

Well he looks great for his age no question, and he sure wouldn't if he kept smoking,boozing, or doping too much. Paul always seemed like such a regular guy too with his genius. Where as,Genius's Dylan and Lennon seemed to convey angst and surliness at times. Like if you met Paul he always seemed like he would be solid and pleasant, with the latter 2 it would depend on their mood.

He talked about it being a really Beatles kind of melody and style, especially that line "take me to that place", he said he could imagine him and John singing that line. And he used the Hofner bass. I think it's self aware about how Beatles of a song it is which is probably why the music video here has so much of the Beatles involved
@defaultc00kies63
@defaultc00kies63 3 жыл бұрын
I believe it's fully intentional. The song seems to be about John. The timing, the Beatle sound, the references in the video and those lines about being "alone again" and not finding his brave face fit perfectly. John and Paul had the habit of dropping those little hints when they were writing about/to each other. And Elvis Costello was the closest thing to a John personality among his solo collaborators. I think Paul wanted to tell us something without saying it in so many words.

Including all 3 of his ex Liverpudlian band mates. He was a raging egomaniac determined to control and present determined narratives of himself to the public. Best songwriter in history? That is very subjective. After Sgt. Pepper he mostly made cheesy, corny, schmatlzy music followed up by an entire very creatively disappointing solo career full of commercially driven, middle of the road, bland, safe, cutesy music. Like this here song. I have not heard a single McCartney solo album that I deemed as completely good. Solo or with Wings. All of his peers took chances, changed lanes, challenged the audience… not McCartney. It was always… here I am, good old cutesy Paul with another cutesy song.

Flowers in the dirt is Paul MCartney's best solo record because, besides this song, it has beautiful songs like "This one" and "Put it there". Although the record has been a great success, it is an absolutely undervalued record

@@DYNODRUM 👍 " Flowers in the dirt" represents a return to the Beatles. The sonorities of the songs, Paul's decision to play the Hoffner bass again and to play many Beatles songs on the tour ( I was lucky to see a concert) make this one the best Paul album.

I love music... This song moves many things inside of me. I remember my father who taught me to love a lot of rythms, but definetily one of the best bands he taught me to love was The Beatles, and of course, my favourite Beatle always was Paul... so much that I named the first name of my son after him... Paul, but as I'm from Argentina, people used to say his name in the Spanish version... and I didn't like to listen the wrong pronunciation, so I just call him by other of his names. But Paul always inspired me tenderness, he's the kind of man you see and think "That's a good man!", a true gentleman, so polite. I remind in one of their concerts in Buenos Aires when a little girl went on stage and asked him to play the bass with him, and he became her dream true... I loved him more than ever... he's one of a kind!

Totally agreed, sadly in 1989 people were flocking to superficial pop singers/groups like Milli Vanilli, Paula Abdul, New Kids on the Block as well as the hair bands like Guns 'N Roses and Bon Jovi, I guess Paul McCartney was no longer relevant to the pop crowd anymore.

I feel that My Brave Face was the last really big hit of McCartney's career. To me, it's the final time that he reached the level of his earlier Beatles and Wings classics. It has become another one of his ubiquitous tunes that's instantly recognizable anywhere.
