My biggest problem with it is that stepping in the ring with Mike Tyson should be a HIGH HONOR. And Jake Paul hasnt merited that kind of honor at all. But honor and morals and respect are not what dominates the public consciousness. People want dirty shit and this is gonna draw a lot of publicity and attention even though it wouldn't in a better world.
@nirfz

Sounds valid, but then again, it feels to me like even during his prime, it was not decided on the persons honour, who was to enter the ring against Mr. Tyson or any other accomplished boxer. It usually was about money. (which pairing would draw the most attention and crowd) Just like this time.

Breaking News: Jake Paul challenges Jack Dempsey's skeleton to a boxing match

It frankly wasn't surprising to see Ngannou getting finished like this. His rooted, power-punching approach left him vulnerable to a skilled boxer-puncher like Joshua, with heavy hands and bloody solid fundamentals. Ngannou picking Tyson to train him in his style also always seemed a bit odd too, given Ngannous size and typical lack "tysonesque" lateral mobility in his mma career. It worked for him against Fury, probably as a result of a both the "surprise factor" and Fury being out of shape and lacking power. But it showed itself to be a very ill-suited approach against Joshua. Watching Ngannou uncharacteristically leading with left hooks and leave himself open made me cringe. Tyson himself attributed his style to compensating for his smaller stature, which doesn't align with Ngannou's physicality. A more suitable strategy for a heavy and lumbering puncher like Ngannou would have been to adopt a more "classical" style focusing on hard jabs, clinching and trapping to set up single heavy blows akin to what Jack Johnson or George Foreman did, rather than Tysons mobile style. I feel like Ngannous similar age to when Foreman made his comeback, he could still be a top 10 boxing heavyweight if he would go train with Foreman for a while and learn some of the same tricks he used to effectively utilize his power despite old age.

Funny. I immediately thought of Foreman as a match for Ngannou too. Not sure the cross block would translate well, but a lot of the basic strategy might.

@jimmyjakes1823 3 ай бұрын
Tyson didn't teach him anything, he was just there to talk to the press and hype the fight. None of these former champs like Foreman or Tyson have shown any inclination or talent for training. As boxers, Ngannou is about the same age as Foreman during his 90's run, but comparisons end there. The guy who really deserves the credit for the Fury fight is Dewey Cooper. Fury is a goof and a flake. He showed up fat and out of shape because he wanted to prove he didn't need to train. AJ is a serious person who had 10 rounds of footage to work with. I don't think any top 10 heavyweight who takes the fight seriously loses to Ngannou.

I remember Tyson Fury going through major depression and getting over 450 Lbs, and then he recovered and dropped so much weight so quickly I was worried about him dying, but he ended up excelling. The guy is a genetic mystery to me. I can't believe Francis was knocked out after the performance he had against Tyson Fury. I'm just stunned. After the "fight" with Roy Jones Jr., Mike Tyson said he enjoys fighting just for charity and would love to do it again, and the results didn't matter. I was watching live when he apologized to Teddy Atlas for all the wrongs he committed against him. I believe he has really transformed into a very different person now. P.S. Any chance you could do a video with Teddy Atlas? Your insight reminds me of him all the time.

What's a bit sad to me is that it seems that these gimmick fights draw a lot more attention than the actual pro fights.. Jake Paul fights, Ngnannou fights, seem to be bigger than the actual title fights for the most prized belts. Obviously, the actual sport is not in very high prestige if its best fighters fighting each other draw fewer views than athletes coming from other sports or from the social media sphere.

30:58 this is interesting. I recently heard Tom Aspinall from the UFC talking about this and how he is working on skill improvement everyday and think that many fighters make the mistake of mainly training in their camps? That sounds crazy to me considering how large off seasons can be annually for a mma fighter. A camp seems good for bumping you up to ideal fighting condition and strategizing for a specific opponent, not so much learning new tools.

There’s a tangent I haven’t seen brought into this discussion yet. In terms of combat sports, the reaction time and ability to take damage is a very big deal in boxing, compared to other combat sports. But in the case of Jake Paul vs Mario Sperry/Fabio Gurgel/Ricardo Liborio- taking BJJ/vale Tudo guys of the same age and weight as Tyson-even with strikes at full combat intensity, I could still see the Brazilians coming out on top most of the time.

Ramsey you probably already know but did you know that the story of Chrono Trigger is vaguely based on The Bible? On Jesus Christ's story? Thats why you have to visit Magical Kings with the names of Balthasar, etc. This is why Crono has an unfair trail where he gets falsely accused with crimes he didn't commit, dies then resurrects, etc. Of course it has elements of other things like H.P. Lovecraft with the cosmic horror alien Lavos, etc. It's a good story, good ambient music tracks too. Secret of the Forest track is such a good track to meditate to.

The main selling point of boxing over professional wrestling for most people at least is that the fights are supposed to be real, not scripted or acted out. Also boxing promotions would never be able to compete with the insane plot and drama that professional wrestling produce on a daily basis if they try.

There have been worked boxing matches as long as there have been boxing matches. The biggest difference with worked boxing fights and pro wrestling’s worked matches is that pro wrestling promotions are honest about what they are. The pro wrestling audience knows it’s essentially a live dramatized stunt performance going in. But boxing fans are sold tickets under the premise that everything they see in the ring will always be straight shooting, and that isn’t always true.

Mike obviously wants to prove something. To me that's a weird thing for a retired champ to compete again, but hell - if that's what the Man wants, let him have it. On the other hand, I totally hope that he's gonna smash Jake's face.

I low-key feel this is a gift for tyson. I don't really care about the result. I am just happy Tyson is going to get paid what he deserves.

Ramsey certainly does look good. I know I'm not popular in Ramsey's viewers, but consider master Wong is 50 something, and he looks fantastic (whether he can fight or not, he is strong, fit, flexible for his age).

i'm a time traveler. the result of the boxing match: mike tyson mysteriously loses all his power and speed. jake paul puts up a serious match against mike tyson, they go a lot of rounds. it will be a close match, but jake paul wins by points. the whole match totally wasn't larping.

I watched the relatively early Akira cartoon and I found it somewhat interesting. "Dragonball" was always a very small child's cartoon, in my eyes. If people want to watch it and enjoy watching then I don't intend to try to stop them, but thinking that it has something to do with martial arts is asinine.

"Muhammad Ali... he's dead. You can't fight him." I could think of a few other reasons not to have him in a boxing ring, even if he were alive. lol.

This was already agreed to be an Exhibition, but it will make them both a couple of nice millions of dollars, Mike will probably be declared the “winner”. & the rest is all Hype.

I just want to Mike fight again. 2 questions though: does Mike have the *capacity* to fight like he did in his match vs Roy Jones Jr? And (2) will this match be legit, or will it have side deals (like Mike not being allowed to hit JP in the face)?

They say power is the last to go, that's non sense. Speed and strength dictate power. Your speed and strength greatly diminish as you age past 50. He can still hit hard, but nothing like him in his prime. He is a legend, but he is way too old for sports now. Mike had lower stamina in his prime and Jake is in the peak physical time of his life. I love Mike, but let's get real. I'm sure this boxing match aka show, is scripted. Jake can't get knocked out, because it would ruin his lucrative career and Mike can't get embarrassed and ruin his legacy. Jake can't win either way and Mike can only win if he knocks him out. Well they both win $$$$, that's what it is about.

Zero chance Tyson wins imo. Im for Tyson, but these old dogs never gain anything back, what's lost is lost. We've watched these older retired fighters fight and it's never pretty. If Tyson gets remotely clipped, he will wobble and the ref will step in and call it. I'm blown away that so many people think Tyson today equals Tyson of the past. Jake Paul is experienced enough to land a shot on Tyson, and it won't be hard for him.
