James Doohan, the actor who played Scotty on the original Star Trek series, stormed the beaches of Normandy on D-Day and was saved from a bullet to the heart by a cigarette case he kept in his breast pocket, which just goes to show that smoking saves. That's why I worship the Marlboro Man.

I love how Paul has specifically geared his channel towards not swearing because he wants to be more approachable to other Christians who might want to look into the claims for themselves and possibly leave the faith, but Morgan and another pair of guest stars more than make up for his lack of profanity. It's a wonderful juxtaposition.

A bullet ridden copy of Mein Kampf saved a German's solder once. I know Mein Kampf isn't nearly as vile as the Bible (and that is saying something) but really, any hard object can save you from being shot.

Mein Kampf and the Bible share a lot of traits. In Nazi Germany, everyone had a copy of Mein Kampf (you'd get it as a "state gift" for a wedding for example), almost nobody has ever really read it and if more people had, a lot of atrocities could have been avoided.

I'm a trans man, and I've been looking into post op regret/depression myself out of some concern, but it's important to remember breast tissue and gonads produce hormones themselves. When those are removed, assuming you haven't been on hormone blocking medications along with whatever hormone replacement you might be taking, you're going to have a huge, sudden drop in hormones. Like in postpartum depression, this can cause concerning but temporary symptoms that, 9/10, will pass with time as your body adapts. There's also the fact that our technology for transition, while pretty fucking amazing, isn't anywhere near perfect. On top of that, some people simply don't follow up because they can't afford it, so they might be more likely to have complications. It's understandable that a person might be dissatisfied if their results don't look right, there's a lot of scarring, etc. Even if there was a huge chance I might regret it later, which I'm almost certain I won't, I'd go through surgery. Having to live in the body I do now is hell, any regret I would feel couldn't compare to what I feel now.

Fyi, Bath is a town built before Roman times (maybe pre-Celtic, but it was definitely in use as a spa during Celtic times) because of the natural spa, as are many other towns and cities throughout Europe (pretty darned sure Baden-Baden is named thus for a very good reason. Run its name through Translate...). The Georgians particularly loved it, the crescent of houses you showed was built by Nash. Jane Austen visited the town regularly, Herschel built his own telescopes at his house there (along with his sister), and more importantly, I met my husband at Bath Uni on a summer school run by our university (the Open Uni. Check it out, it's an epic uni!!!). So if you think about it, there's nothing really funny about the name at all, it just follows over 2000 years of history. HTH. Great show as ever.

Somehow, the idea of “you *will* regret it” has seeped into the public conscious when it comes to sex change. I honestly have no idea if it’s because everyone involved either currently has or wants to have lady parts, or if people are just so scared of anything Other that they can’t think logically. Studies show that suicide and depression rates drop significantly when people are allowed to live the correct gender expression. You’d think that fact would be enough to get people on board with it, yet it’s not. It’s immensely frustrating for me to try to discuss the issue publicly. I do, after all, live about 45 minutes from the Ark.

Transition regret is already known and understood pretty well. The regret occurs as a person expects too much from a procedure or a social transition. WPATH has guidelines that ensure that psychologists and psychiatrists discus realistic expectations. Transition regret does not have anything to do with being trans, it's a human thing. Lots of people experience sadness or regret after making a big decision.

I would like to defend the use of "spa" in British place names. Spa is a small town in Belgium that was celebrated in medieval times for the supposed curative powers of its mineral springs. Other towns in Europe with similar springs adopted its name as a suffix to attract health tourists. All this happened long before the term "spa" was hi-jacked by the sauna and massage industry.

I am concerned, Paul, about your coverage of the trans regret story as it relates to Bath Spa University's ethics committee's action. I wonder whether you are taking AIG and James Caspian's and the Daily Wire's statements as factual and unbiased when that's not ever the way to bet. As far as I know, all universities that study living subjects have an ethics committee that has to review all proposals for such studies. I had to get such a review for my Masters' thesis on a simple survey of alcohol and other drug use among technical college students. It's absolutely normal, and Caspian's proposal to study post-surgical regret/distress in trans people would have gone through Bath Spa University's ethics committee as a matter of course. He wouldn't have been singled out as he, the National Post, and AIG are claiming. This story is more than a year old and was updated as of October 22, 2018, without any comment yet from Bath Spa about their internal investigation into the situation. Might be useful to wait a bit longer to get their side of the story. So right now we have a researcher who seems to be surprised his research proposal was reviewed his university's ethics committee when he shouldn't have been surprised at all. We have the university conducting an internal investigation of the situation with no report yet on their findings. We have what appears to be a conservative paper, the National Post, reporting on it so as to cast Bath Spa in a doubtful light. We have the whole thing reported third- or fourth-hand in Ben Shapiro's Daily Wire, a far right-wing hack site with a massive anti-trans agenda. And we have AIG News clucking their tongues over their skewed view of the whole fucking telephone game. I am wondering whether I misunderstood you and Morgan when you seemed to suggest that the university was wrong to deny the proposal when you don't have the university's own statement on the reason(s) why they denied the proposal. With only half the story, any position would seem to me to be premature.

I occasionally have regret about getting my tubes tied, I know I don't want any more kids but I still get pangs of longing when I see a baby (stupid lizard brain). Ofcourse I think about what could have been but that doesn't mean i would change my mind or that others shouldn't be able to make the same choice I did.

The Fellowship of the Ring, the first volume of The Lord of the Rings was published in 1954, kinda hard to have it on your night table in WW1.

11:40 He was rejected because he did not properly fill out his application. With the rejection they explained *WHY* his application was rejected and told him how to correct the reasons it was rejected so they could except his application. I think he deliberately filled it out wrong so he could then he could say he was being discriminated against.

ajs1031 from the spelling ‘Bab El’ it would seem reasonable for the word to be pronounced ‘babble’ although I was under the impression that the word in Babylonian was ‘Bab-ilu’ (Gate of God) referred to in Genesis 11.19 (where g0d confused mankind by making then talk in different languages (making others sound as if they were ‘babbling’) which would also (IMHO) suggest ‘babble’ rather than ‘baybul’. However all my life I’ve said ‘baybul’ (UK).

How can an all knowing and all powerful god be "attacked"? Also if god has persevered his "word" in perfect accuracy throughout history, how is people "attacking" it a problem? They say god is in control, but they sure don't act like it

Anything that is really true will hold up to any amount of scrutiny. If that scrutiny makes followers of the scrutinized idea or belief system nervous, maybe it's because on some level they know that any real investigation will reveal their idea to be a house of cards. So they go into attack mode and try to discredit science. But close scrutiny (done honestly) only makes science stronger, because it is not a house of cards and is based on real facts. And scientists are happy to have any of their ideas proven wrong, because that's how they refine their understanding of how things work.

Their god seems incompetent, petty, and has some easily hurt feelings. If that god wants my worship, he's going to have to take responsibility for his actions, stop blaming others for his mistakes, stop hurting those who said mean things or who don't want to be his friend. In other words, he'll have to show the maturity of at least a 12 year old.

With respect to the transgender study, ethics boards don't just look at WHAT the researcher wants to study, but also HOW they want conduct the study. So they have to weigh the importance of the knowledge to be gained against the effect the studies methods will have on its subjects. Since all we have is the researchers version, without knowing how his proposed study was going to work, it's not fair to judge the university too harshly.

Sorry to have to tell you Morgan that Lord of the Rings didn't begin to get written until 1937. It was Tolkien's experiences as a soldier in the First WW that formed much of the books.
