I own this book and I do like the simplicity of the recipes because complicated recipes overwhelm me sometimes. I think all the dishes you made look delicious, even the peanut noodle one but I’d leave out the lime. The only one I wouldn’t make is the curry. Your right about the inconsistencies in the book. Annie’s comment about being rich and fancy is adorable with her special glass! I enjoy your family’s jokes and banter with each other and sense of humor. You guys always entertain while you teach us. Hi, Jeremy! Thanks to you and your family for making your way through another cookbook so we can feel more confident and informed. You mentioned the sticky factor of rice noodles. May I offer a tip on that? Don’t cook them! Well… yes… do cook them but only as to give them a good warm through with the sauce and veggies. What I like to do is hydrate rice noodles in a bowl of room temperature water. For how long depends on how thick yours are. Mine are 2mm and take an hour or so. You will know they are properly rehydrated when you pick a bunch of them up with the fingertips of your “crab claw” 🤏 hand and they fall, rather than keeping their stiff and bent shape from the packaging. I am not very good at explaining things but you’re a clever fellow … you’ll get it…

Another great video, Jeremy. You cracked me up, calming yourself down about not needing instructions on how to cut kale leaves. We recently binged all of Schitt‘s Creek and loved it. I like the way you have opened my mind when it comes to recipes. I used to look at a recipe and if I didn’t have one of the ingredients I might think I would not be able to make it. Now I’m looking at recipes thinking I can either do without that ingredient or substitute it with something else. I love the flexibility you have opened me up to!

That peanut sauce is very similar to mine, but I use at least half real peanut butter to powdered peanut butter in any sauce. Otherwise it just doesn't taste peanut butter-y enough, and the fat balances out the flavors and texture. I start with 1 Tablespoon of lime juice and add more to taste, depending on the sourness of the lime. I wouldn't add the sesame oil, that's a weird flavor combo.
@claudiahost867316 күн бұрын
My piece of UNIQUE advice regarding your new cookbook is to include the feedback your family gave for each recipe. For example, Woolie gave it an S but thought it had too much lime or Jeremy gave it a B but it would have been an A if it were spicier. Warm wishes, Claudia from Tucson, AZ

I really loved watching all your family review the Plantifully Simple recipes and taste test them. I can't wait to try YOUR cookbook because of listening to some of your comments regarding what you would have done differently with Kiki's recipes. I agree that because she doesn't love to spend alot of time cooking it is probably the reason she makes it more simple and that is one of the reasons I like her recipes but I also would add the things you mention into her recipes like the tofu, air frying the sweet potatoes with the skin on, etc. The one thing that I was going to try and make because I really miss desserts is the Heavenly Banana Brownies but that was the only one where you didn't include the picture of the recipe and I was bummed about that! Can you add a picture of that to me so I can just order your book for now and taste test the recipes of her book that you posted?

I always enjoy the family testing cookbooks video’s :) I agree that this one seems suspiciously padded. For example, the “granola” could be used over the cherrie bowl (chocolate/cherries/yum) and what most writers would do is, in side notes, suggest it would also work great as a topper on yogurt or as a snack/breakfast cereal on it’s own. I still might borrow if the Ottawa Library has a copy but otherwise it would be a pass for me. Another vote for Stevia tasting chemically. I even used to grow it and try the leaf whole in tea and it still had a weird after taste. If you ever go to look for Buckwheat soba again, “King Soba” was the only brand I could find that offers it. It’s gluten free but very pricey compared to other pasta & soba noodles

It also looks like some of the stuff I make up when I don't really want to make something. Maybe this is the book for my neighbour who wants to be vegan but as a guy in 70s, does not want to learn how to cook, now. What I want in cook books more than anything else, is for them to be easy to use---> lie flat. After that, I would like a VEGAN book on dehydrating.

Looking forward to your book! I love Kiki's book. So funny, I though the brownies were heavenly. I could taste the banana, but they were like the gooiest, chocolatey brownies to me. I think if you are used to eating more "normal" foods, then banana brownies are going to taste like banana brownies. If you eat more whole food ingredients, then banana brownies are going to taste like a super chocolatey treat cuz you don't eat brownies, lol!. Its all relevant to the taste tester, right? I appreciate all your reviews!! Your family is adorable!! Question: Are you going to have any macros or nutritional info in your book? I did not care about this years ago when first going plant-based, but now I watch my macros and pay more attention to all the nutritional info and calories per serving. Just wondering... Thanks!!
@pbwithjeremy14 күн бұрын
It is all relevant for sure - which is why you often get different scores from all of us. I really loved those brownies too :) I was going to include the nutritional information, but to be honest, we cross referenced the information across multiple sources and found it was too inconsistent, so we've decided to not include it so as to not give anyone wrong information. As someone who struggled with calorie counting and the mental health aspects of it, I feel good about leaving it out. The recipes are generally already designed to have a healthy balance in them between all of the macros (for the most part), so that's our way to contribute. Perhaps in a future book if I do one that's more focused on weight loss, etc... but that isn't the focus of this one.

For the curry a bit of context that might make the sweet potato directions make more sense - on her channel she often preps potatoes/sweet potatoes on weekends and has them pre roasted or steamed and just happens to prep them whole. So for her recipe she was likely thinking that she usually grabs from her whole prepped potatoes when making this. Not saying cubing them and roasting them doesnt make sense...just saying that's probably where she's coming from

I also noticed several other mistakes that you didn't point out. Maybe the publishers pushed her to put out another book too fast since her first one was so successful!

Yeah, we agree - the book was a little underwhelming.

I noticed the same things on her cookbooks. I love her but it's made me think why did I buy this.

Great review - thanks for the insight. We love Plantiful Kiki. I was wondering if you have a video about your cookbook with highlights of what is in it and maybe a demo of some of the recipes. I checked under your video tab and did not find anything. Is there somewhere else that I can look?

One thing about Plantiful Kiki that doesn't suit your family's eating style is that her recipes follow Dr McDougall's Starch Solution, which means plant based but also minimal fat (so very limited nuts, seeds and tofu).
@pbwithjeremy15 күн бұрын
I don't see Starch Solution as limiting fats. And the way we eat does that too. I don't know what it is about her recipes - just not for me, I guess. Glad that others enjoy them! It's just our opinions :)

Your daughter mentioned your dog ate raisin cookies. Raisins are poisonous to dogs.

Is it just me or do recipes for 1 or 2 end up being HUGE? I cook for 9 and if I 9x these recipes I’m guessing it would take up the whole fridge

Hahah. Maybe make it x6 and see if that's enough :)

Omg. I love this video but I just panicked when you mentioned the dog ate a raisin cookie. Just one rasin can kill a dog and it just depends on whether or not that particular rasin has a particular compound in it! I had to rush my pup to the vet before for this. Please be very careful with grapes and raisins around our furry friends. 🧡

Still alive. And just so it's clear - we didn't feed it to them - the little bugger stole it :)

@pbwithjeremy I know! Haha. I didn't give raisins to my silly pup either. I am glad he's ok.

One thing I hate about Kiki’s books is that one “recipe” can contain up to three other recipes!

Yup. They certainly feel a bit padded...

I’ve only had Stevia once, I had an anaphylactic allergy reaction to it, and it tasted gross.

I love Kikki and agree with your rating of her book. I enjoy your family but would enjoy watching more if your children would close their mouths to chew and if all of you stopped chewing before talking. Sorry if I’m being harsh but I don’t enjoy gagging while watching your videos.

Thank you for your honest feedback and for being a part of our community. I’m glad to hear you enjoy Kiki’s book and our content overall. I understand that watching people chew or talk with food in their mouths can be unpleasant for some viewers, and I appreciate you sharing your perspective. We strive to keep our videos authentic and relaxed, but I hear your concerns and will keep this in mind. Thanks again for watching and for taking the time to share your thoughts!

Thank you for calling her out! Although Kiki seems like a sweet person her cookbooks are not the best! Her recipes are almost too simple! I swear she'll put avocado toast as a recipe in one of her cookbooks; when most people already know how to make that. Just like her "granola" recipe here. Plus, as you pointed out, do we really need another "yogurt granola" recipe? I'm sorry, but that's not an actual recipe to me. That's an option/tip of how you can eat the granola. It's NOT a recipe in my opinion. Not a fan of her cookbooks, so I'll definitely bypass hers EVERY time around! I'm personally not a fan! I don't know if she tries to get the cookbooks out one right after the next or what!? It just seems like there are a lot of mistakes within the cookbooks also. That's a turn off for me! 👎🏻

Yup. I struggle with her stuff as well. In her last book she literally had a "recipe" for how to make cereal... and by "make cereal" I mean pouring boxed cereal into a bowl with fruit and non-dairy milk. ... that was a "recipe"... sigh....

I HATE stevia! Tastes horrible and gives me a terrible stomach ache. I have noticed Kiki uses it frequently. Regardless, I do really like her and have enjoyed many of her Plantifully Lean recipes but not impressed with this book (which I own). It just feels thrown together, like they wanted to quickly capitalize on the success with Plantifully Lean. If I remember right, your family didn’t really like Plantifully Lean very much either but I use that book a lot for sauces and ideas and I love the cheezy broccoli rice casserole that’s in it. So good.

Kiki’s recipes are focused on weight loss. That’s most likely why she uses Stevia. I prefer maple syrup.
