I think it will be a good looking driveway, plus solid and mostly troublefree. In a couple years there will be good vegatation growth back and off the edge. All the haters of the "highway look" just don't have any vision. It looks like the rocky ground will also allow good drainage and help keep erosion down. The equipment operators did a bang up job!

Thanks, Man! Yeah, lots of sandstone there. It made trying to maintain that trail a pain because the box blade would just pull up huge chunks…

Looking good, I had outside 3" pipes put in to give the outer road edges a guide rather than a sharp drop off and put 10 MPH signs on them. Also during heavier rains get out there and find the flash run offs from the side hill, they will rip right through the road without a culvert themselves. Do you have any other emergency exit road just in case this one is impassible?
@PeeksPeakHobbyHomestead15 күн бұрын
Good suggestions! There is a connection to the neighbors up there so we would be able to get to their driveway in an emergency. I am also planning a guardrail of some sort when the weather permits…

If you' ask me, the old trail was by far more beautyful than the new highway. But I understand that for building a house on the top, you need a solid access ...
@PeeksPeakHobbyHomestead17 күн бұрын
Yeah, I get that. The old trail was cool, but it severely limited what we could do up there. Not to mention, maintenance was tough with the big old rocks…

This looks amazing! I have a similar size project I need to tackle at my parents house, widen their driveway, add a culvert at the bottom of the driveway and then extend the path up the hill to my house site. Do you mind sharing the rough cost? I can do the gravel myself, but I'm not comfortable doing the earthworks myself, need to hire that out.

Are you planning on any geotextile under your stone?
@PeeksPeakHobbyHomestead16 күн бұрын
I thought that one over. I have seen it work really well, but when I used it on my main driveway, what I ran into is every time I tried to use the box blade to rework and smooth the gravel, I would catch it and pull it up and ruin it. On a hill like this that will undoubtedly wash out at times, I know I will be working the surface a lot. I was afraid to try it. Any tips?
@HarrietsChariot16 күн бұрын
@@PeeksPeakHobbyHomestead Understandable. I think in a perfect world, I'd go with geotextile and geocells to help reduce washout, and also have some big stone on the base. But I also think you're probably right that you'll be working it a lot over time and ripping fabric could be a problem. You've got the equipment to keep it up, so I think your plan is probably the right one. I'd probably focus on getting some decent riprap in the swale and maybe do a temporary seeding to help reduce sediment runoff (though its obviously not growing season, so it may not help). By the way, I think now that you've had some time to play with the TYM, it's time to give the people what they really want - put some of the TYM attachments on the BX and see how it does.
