That 84 album is one of the best ever. I think there were 5 singles off it. Which is crazy for an album. But it was that good. Big songs off that one. It lifted him quick to stardom. I believe on some lists, that album was voted best of the year. I was born in 80. But I remember at 10 years old knowing Bon Jovi and listening to those songs like they were knew. Yes… he did refer to Frank Sinatra song. Tommy and Gina were the couple in their early mega hit, Livin On a Prayer. Jon Bon Jovi and Bruce Springsteen are my homies. I grew up listening to them, seeing them live. I literally lived in between the two towns they lived in, in NJ. Jon did have his vocal cords operated on in the last year. He still has not performed live as he is taking the it slow with recovery. But just before surgery, he really struggled in live performances. Jon and Bruce are good guys, not caught up in the pitfalls of the industry but massively close to their wives and children, both incredibly committed to philanthropic work. They remain successful for decades. Jersey strong!

Jon Bongiovi is One of the preeminent lyricists from my generation. I see that several people already commented on it, but Tommy and Gina are from living on a prayer, the song you mentioned at the beginning. He actually sang to my ex-wife at a concert I went to in Pullman Washington, on the New Jersey tour. Which was the loudest roar I've ever heard. When they came out onto the stage to lay your hands on me and he fired out from underneath the stage through the fog that crowd was easily 125 decibels.
