Aside from actually taking apart the Anime/Manga, one of the best things about One Piece is that if you get into it, you have content for years to come. Which I think is also quite a big factor in deciding what someone should try to get into, just because of the amount of times I started watching an Anime, loving it and then realizing it was cancelled after Season 1 or over after Season 2, totalling 10-25 episodes. Aside from the random anime I got into at that time, One Piece is the one thing I look at weekly (well, if it's not on a break) and sure, it had it's ups and downs, but it's nice to always have it there Edit: I agree early on its really rough and it doesnt make a sudden jump IMO, it slowly shifts over time. Which I think is mainly due to it being on television back then. And it was a very different "meta" compared to nowadays where shows usually try to hook you ASAP and if they fail to do so, they are done. And I gotta admit if I came across OP nowadays, I don't think I would get into it just based on how slow it was

Half of one chapter even had the buggy scene where he meets ace which isn't until later in the anime so it's really only 1 and a half chapters for 2 episodes. I feel like kaido is so misunderstood, from his relationship to big mom, yamato, oden and how he handles them. his parallels to luffy, his backstory and what the people around him want him to be and how he wants to be seen after he's gone.
@Scilk_60716 сағат бұрын
You could write a 10000 word analysis on kaido and for some reason people still interpret him as a basic bad guy who’s evil for the sake of being evil. He’s one of the most carefully crafted and nuanced characters in the series if you just take a deeper look at him.
@3looy16 сағат бұрын
He feels unfinished, the last act of wano was generally rushed, maybe because oda realized that this arc is going for too long
@czar17_2815 сағат бұрын
@@Scilk_607He is still not overly complicated. No development on why he treats Yamato bad, no info on his parents, no info on her mother, no info on his meeting with Queen and Jack. He also never displays and understanding of JoyBoy or Nika so how he came to conclusions about it unknown. There is not that much. A lot of it is tied up with other characters for later but still.
@Scilk_60715 сағат бұрын
@ he treats Yamato bad because he wanted to be like oden and kaido was a bad person in general (it should have got that point across when he imprisoned Yamato for liking the samurai with the intent of letting him starve to death). We don’t know any info on 99% of one piece characters parents, like we know nothing on Luffy’s mom so it’s weird to expect us to see Kaido’s mom if one of the reason why he is the way he is is because he was a parent less child soldier exploited by the military (though we have theories on who his dad might have been after the previous chapter). We know Queen joined because he was simply a strong pirate who’s values aligned with Kaido’s and we can assume the same with jack, but at the end of the day they’re 2 seperate characters from kaido. He likely knows what joyboy is because he was surrounded by some of the strongest pirates on the planet who knew who he was. Out of all the characters, Kaido’s past has some of the most screen time out of any character in the series, we have seen almost every stage of his life besides the god valley incident.
@czar17_2815 сағат бұрын
@ Yamato wants to be like Oden true, but he trapped her up before then. Theres no basis for their relationship outside of that and that’s completely based upon Yamato. Basic concept that adds nothing without context to their relationship before then. We know nothing of most parents, but Kaido is an oni. And seemingly him and Yamato are literally the only ones in the world? His heritage matters to some degree if Lunarians, Fishmen, Giants/Ancient Giants, Minks matter. He’s exploited by the military which is another basic concept. It doesn’t add anything to his character other than his mentality about strength.

He’s not a character that needed or even cares to be understood, he’s a simple straight forward alcoholic brute, and that loves a fair fight good enough to literally die for, and respects his crew. I have watched it 2 full times, once in my native language and once in japanese and I am now rewatching with a friend for the third time and we just reached Dress Rosa after like 3 month. What OP is best at out of all anime imo is the world building. And if you don't just sit there and want to see Luffy and fighting all the time but can actually appreciate the build up of the whole world, it's actually sooooo enjoyable. I keep on giggling like a child at certain scenes, and OP keeps on giving. Can't wait to keep going after the current break, as I am anime only.

Here’s what made me appreciate Kaido more; Devil fruits were created from people’s dreams, and the dream of Kaido’s fruit was to be invincible. A devil fruit awakening occurs when someone’s mind and body align with the dream of the fruit, Kaido’s body was invincible but in his mind he wanted to be defeated so he never awakened. Kaido originally thought he was Joyboy, but upon finding out he couldn’t be Joyboy he spent his life becoming as strong as he can, and PURPOSELY being the bad guy so that whoever defeats him will be Joyboy. He seems 2-dimensional because his whole role in the story is to serve as this static pillar that Luffy needs leap over in order to narratively prove he is the modern incarnate of Joyboy, which he eventually does with Gear 5. Kaido being 2 dimensional is an act put on by him, with his drunk “forms” showing that he is capable of more complicated emotions. Additionally, his overwhelming seriousness is great when contrasted to Gear 5 and really makes it a lot more enjoyable to watch.
