Right? 18 is an adult, he's not a child. And bullying is not sibling bonding. That poor girl, dealing with chemo then having to deal with being bullied by adults too, good for her mum standing up for her. I really hope she divorced him (and maybe got her daughter some therapy). His whole family sound like the literal worst.

This was horrific, I have cried, when reading it on Reddit. Yes, he's not a child, and even if he was, he shouldn't be able to get away with it. This is not "bonding", it's a CRIME. he have no respect to the girl's personal space (I actually don't know how things are in America, but here, taking pictures of someone without their concern is a crime) nor her body autonomy (it wasn't her choice to go bald, so her wig can be seen as part of her true self).

i actually feel like the story can't be real, because of how blatantly horrific everyone's behavior is towards a teenage chemo patient. i can see some teens/kids laughing, i can't see any adult guests laughing or any adult guests not interjecting and shaming anyone who was laughing. like it just really doesn't add up with how universally understood cancer is and how terrible this story is. people make shit up on reddit for karma all the time i really think it's a fake story

seriously, who does something like that, especially after going through Chemo. I had a half brother I met for the first time and because of the number of people involved we had to take two cars to go out to eat. he sat next to me and started pulling my hair; I repeatedly told him to stop and eventually this got the attention of the shared parent. I told them I had asked the boy to stop and the response I received was " that just means he likes you." the parent then turned away and let the kid do whatever he wanted. I'm glad said parent is dead and hopefully rotting in hell.

not only misogynistic, racist too. are you familiar with the term "misogynoir"? it's the intersection of racism and misogyny, typically affecting black women. but regardless of race or gender, touching other people's things and publicly humiliating them is cruel as fuck.

I’m not black, but I do come from a big hair culture. When I lost my hair to cardiac cancer, she donated 64 inches of her own. Getting used to a pixi was tough for her and I know my mom was devastated she couldn’t brush and braid my hair anymore, and having a wig will never be the same as natural hair I grew my whole life. I can’t imagine anyone doing anything like this to me.

Misogynistic? How? 💀
@nonexistingvoid
@nonexistingvoid Жыл бұрын
@@ilikeghibli women especially are expected to have a head full of hair, and people who wear wigs often do this to feel a certain femininity, since society still associates baldness and short hair with men or failing to fit in. I guess some people find it funny to "expose" people who find confidence in wearing a wig to hide baldness or short hair. And their main targets tend to be women. Especially women of colour, as they get shamed for their hair disproportionately. But I might be wrong, as I'm just a white person who's never had to deal with anything like this, so I hope a woman who knows more about it will correct me if needed.

the one about the trans kid annoyed me so much. first of all, people dictating what guests wear to their wedding is kinda gross ngl, probably an unpopular opinion but let people wear what they want? especially if it’s dictated by gender. second of all, i get that it’s her wedding and it’s her day and she has a right to want things the way she wants them, but that right ends the second it makes someone else uncomfortable. and I don’t get why calling her nephew by his real name (real name meaning NOT his deadname) actually affects anything about the day as a whole. I may not know this woman, but I hate her.

Yeah it's one thing not wanting someone to come dressed all in black (if you weren't having like a non-traditional goth wedding or smth), in a swimsuit, also in a wedding dress etc. but those are extreme examples. My aunt was bitching about my mom coming in a dress which was in a colour she didn't like (and it wasn't white, black, in a weird pattern or similar, it was just a normal elegant dress). Now that is on par with lunacy like not wanting your trans relative to come dressed in something they're comfy in

My fave aita posts have to be "aita for punishing my autistic child for this autistic trait". As an autistic person, unmasking is difficult as it is because I'm called weird and I'm bullied for it or I'm punished for it even though I literally can't control it. Autism parents confuse me so much.

ugh i see those all the time, it’s just sad. i’m starting to think that sub’s some sort of psy-op to counter neurodivergent acceptance or something, because so many posts are either “my autistic child/sibling/whatever is autistic and i hate them, AITA?” or some shit like “some guy ate my hamster and i got mad at him, AITA? btw he’s autistic”. As an autistic person myself, the normalization of autistic people as a group to be alienated and despised really bothers me and that sub is one of the epicenters of such content.

I'm in the middle of getting a few diagnoses, one of which is most likely Autism--and for the other neurodivergent traits I exhibit (mostly ADHD, inattentive, and (GAD) Anxiety--which I have been diagnosed with) I've been bullied and yelled at for them. I have a feeling if/when I get diagnosed with Autism it will just be more of the same, but harsher since there is far more active stigma (hate crime stuff) on Autism than ADHD in terms of public opinion or knowledge.

"boys being boys" or "harmless teasing" or "just boys teasing and having fun", are euphemisms for macho/predatory/abusive behavior, to downplay and minimize their abuse instead of calling it for what it is so they won't take accountability for it, or no one makes them accountable. Since their "fun" goes above girl's emotions/dignity is just another way of saying "STFU and take it."

The step mother sounded jealous at first but then if she's fine with him cuddling the apparently straight son but not the gay one then it's deeper than that. Is she going to be like that about him cuddling his daughter too? As someone who was a daddy's girl that makes me sad. I remember once finding an AITA about a man finding his gf's period blood in the toilet, not specifying how much, and then coming in to tell his girlfriend she left it in the toilet. He asked if he was the asshole because he didnt feel like he was being unreasonable. Many people in the comments said YTA, not because of the period blood, but because of the way he handled the situation; it was the middle of the night and she probably just forgot to flush, while he came straight in yelling. It was overall the consensus, at least from what I saw. He later edited the post to say "after seeing that most women are saying YTA, ive decided that i'm gay now, i've broken up with my gf and i'm going to live for myself" (abbv.) and I remember a lot of people celebrating him because of his discovery. It kind of left a bad taste in my mouth, because the way he phrased it seemed like he was going to get away from women and live without them in his life, as if women in general are hurting him. By forgetting to flush the toilet.

Right? She tried playing games and had to deal with the consequences. Clearly she didn't expect her brother to defend his son so vehemently. I'm incredibly pleased and impressed that he did, so many don't want to rock the family boat. Being a trans teen is hard enough and I bet the boys all looked great in their suits. Did she really expect him to force his son into a dress, did she want to make a laughing stock of him at the wedding? I kinda can't help imagining people's faces when a teen boy turns up in a dress though, I think that would have backfired on her even more horribly. Idk whether she thinks he can just turn it on and off, has she just been assuming all this time it's a phase he'll grow out of? Of all the times to try and push your stance...if you choose to do that at your wedding, prepare to have your day effed up. And really she f*d it up for herself not the nephew or his father. And her new hubbie being OK with it shows he must be a transphobe too. Honestly, she deserved everything she got. I love my nibblings and I can't for a second imagine doing that to any of them. Kids need room to explore things like their gender identity and gender expression, and a safe place & trusted people who will both accept and support them, and let them find who they are for themselves...whoever that may be.

It was incredibly respectful if anything to leave it at her own buisness while they’re being rude, disrespectful, &?out of pocket Many would have and could have been much more petty. "I don't understand why it's a problem if your girlfriend earns more than you". The reasons I can think of are all patriarchal bullshit: it _was_ a problem if you couldn't earn more than your wife _who was barred from the workforce,_ and if you buy into the patriarchal gender role where "a Man's job is to provide for his wife and children", it's almost automatic that if your girlfriend/wife earns more than you, _you're not doing your job as a Man._ (The way I'm using capital M "Man" is like "Real Man™" in masculinity gatekeeping posts) I don't know if I'm off-base here, but I feel like the sort of person who ties their identity to their employment probably hasn't examined their biases enough to be aware of how bullshit patriarchy is, or overcome enough capitalist brainwashing to separate their value as a person from their -value as an employee- wage.

It'd be pretty miserable after a straightforward extraction, but I can't imagine it after having been knocked out and still having a hurting mouth. We've all seen the vids of people loopy after having their wisdom teeth out, there was the girl who was convinced they'd stolen her tongue, legs and hands..even while she was gesturing with that hand. It was kinda funny but I cannot imagine leaving someone in that condition unattended in the heat; seems a recipe for a low blood pressure fainting. It's just wild, what the hell was she thinking?! (I mean obviously not thinking a tall). And clearly her friends must be as selfish as her to have not had an issue with it. Imagine if she'd passed out by the pool instead of in the car!

I have had surgeries and operations all my life, I even had extra teeth pulled when I was younger, and recovery was quick and easy. When I got my wisdom teeth out, I was miserable. I couldn't walk and nearly fell on my face when we got home, my dad and brother had to catch me and help me inside. It took me about a week plus or minus of recovery to get on my feet again, and even then I was still on recovery. Why, oh why, the sister in law would ever think that was a good idea in any way is beyond me. Like, really?? Why?? Like, does the sister in law not realize that having wisdom teeth removed is a whole surgery? Not like a surgery, IS a surgery. Me encabrona 😖

That last one is quite literally evil. Laughing at a child with cancer, especially when she was so upset by how it affected her appearance already, is something a villain in a tv show does to prove that they're evil enough to be a valid threat. Usually, the "it's just harmless fun, bro"-crowd very abruptly changes their stance on this when they and their egos are the target. I'd argue that "it's just fun" when the made-fun-of-person truly can laugh along. When they cry and feel humiliated, it's not fun, it's bullying. Plus, for the "it's their way to bond"-argument to work, there has to be some actual bonding there as a result, on both sides. When one party just feels bullied and tortured, that's not fucking bonding. Again: bullying. Disgusting, vile people. I always wonder how such lack of empathy in partners could go unnoticed long enough to marry them.

I'm a cancer survivor. I was somewhat older than "Megan" when I had it, but still in very late adolescence. I had a wig, and hated it. My first foray without it was a family wedding, and my hair was just growing back- it looked like the shortest pixie cut imaginable. The photographer at the wedding told me I looked good, and thought I had actually cut it that way on purpose. I cannot express how happy that made me. The husband, his son, and anyone who was laughing at that situation? Complete trash. Get in the bin. Cancer is one of the only things not subject to a cognitive bias called "just world theory", in which people blame others for their own misfortunes. (This can have a protective effect on their own psyches in a few different ways.) That means cancer patients are almost universally viewed as deserving of help and sensitivity. The familial lack of empathy points to some serious problems, both within the individuals and within the family system. Unless the OP can get the husband, (and ideally, the son as well), into some kind of therapy, she needs to take her daughter and run. There must be a thousand other terrible things they've done that she didn't mention, because no one does something this awful out of nowhere. Edit: ftr, there was plenty of dark humor related to cancer around my house when I had it, (which is common), particularly with my brother, who was 20 at the time. The difference is, I was in on the joke. My brother referred to me as "Katie Cancer", and I responded, condescendingly, "Obviously, it should be Lizzie Lymphoma." We both laughed. Which would be the key as to whether or not the teasing is ok.

I don't really have any issues with my hearing but, being on the autistic spectrum, my brain struggles to filter between speech and background noise. Having sub titles helps me interpret what I'm hearing a lot easier especially when there's other things happening in the background. I find that far too many content creators put no effort into their subtitles and just rely on the auto generated ones so it's very refreshing to see such attention to detail. The supportive parents in the trans story at the wedding warmed my heart. It also made me emotional because as an FTM myself, I know that my parents would have stayed at that wedding. They are encouraging a "smile and take silently, then deal with the emotional damage later" from me as to not upset the family. They would've blamed me for causing a scene or told me that people have more trouble adapting and that I can't get angry at that (speaking from similar experiences). They have trouble adapting themselves, and sometimes deadnaming me and misgendering me without correcting themselves, I often have to correct them, they use the wrong name and pronouns every single day. My grandmother was visiting the other day and almost accidently deadnamed me. She had a very appropriate reaction, like "omg I'm so sorry" and covering her mouth, correcting herself immediately right in the middle of my dead name. And then to make her feel better, my mom was like "oh don't worry, we make mistakes too. It's fine!", when in fact my parents were the one telling me to suppress the mental torment it causes me. All around very frustrating stuff basically. If you read that far, thank you, I hope you have an amazing rest of your day

It was and still is a draining experience, because I don't *want* to fight. It makes me sad. Still, it's going well now, and she's learning. I was even very happy one time when she corrected someone else about my name when I didn't feel the strength to. I hope it goes a similar way, or even better for you!

i wanna point out what you said at 8:37. Having low empathy doesn't make someone a bad person. It stigmatizes aspd to say that low empathy makes someone a bad or selfish person. People can have low empathy and still be compassionate and caring. And hey, this is coming from someone who has way too much empathy so would this part of me that i can't change instantly make me a good person? nope. It's better to use the word compassion instead of empathy in the instance you were talking about. Empathy is just your ability to feel others feelings as if your own while compassion is actually caring for others feelings.

Late 2018 my best friend got cancer and lost her hair during chemo, she is got so much of her confidence and self worth from her hair and one of our friends at the time who also felt the same about her hair shaved it all off so she wouldn't have to deal with the loss of her hair alone. She got in massive trouble with my school for her hair being "not feminine enough" and the next year it was printed in the school rules that no one was allowed a shaved head and is enforced to this day. Also if you were wondering about my friend she made a recovery but the leukemia came back last month, the doctors say she should be fine with another bone marrow transplant and should hopefully get better soon.

I genuinely don't understand why it's so hard for people to call someone by their chosen name. To me, it's no different from calling someone by their preferred nickname. I can understand really liking a dead name of a person. But maybe just name a kid or a character of yours that name. Don't continue to force it on someone who doesn’t want it. I had a friend that came out as non binary in high school and they changed their name. But until it was legally changed, many people refused to use their new name. I'll admit, I did prefer their dead name, it was a gender neutral name, but I understood that wasn’t up to me. I decided to be respectful and use their new name. My friend was more important to me then my opinion on the sounds that come out of my mouth when referring to them.

The reason it's so embarrassing to tell people your salary is because it lays bare the extreme inequality in the world. I don't know if it's like a deliberate tactic by rich people to keep people from demanding better salaries, but it's definitely a tactic that _works._

Oh, 100% yes. Making it a social taboo to discuss your salary, especially men's salaries, is definitely a move by the rich to keep the poor from discussing important inequality issues with each other.

The last story broke my heart, I have cancer and my bother and his friends often tease me about my hair loss to the point I feel the need to wear a wig all day, even when at home. I loved my hair more than anything else about myself and loosing it shattered my very small self confidence. my brother has reveled my head in public before but never somewhere as crowded as a wedding, my heart goes out to that poor girl

Wow, that last one left me in tears. That poor girl being put through that by a bunch of (bad word). I just hope she and her mother can escape from those (even worse word). How the F can someone do that to a fellow human, let alone a family member? The others were terrible but wow, that is one of the worst I have seen on these videos.

She's step-family, so they don't view her as REAL family. Add in having cancer, even being related, people will view those kinds of complex illnesses/disabilities as moral failings, so even if you do share blood, you get written off. I was adopted via maternal grandparents, and still horribly abused for being a disabled child. My grandparents and other family members saw it as a moral failing, some sort of result of sin, so that meant I had everything coming. They'd always try to play everything off as 'just teasing' when people would see what was happening and call them out.

@@lilangelhime I'm so sorry you've been treated like that, people like that infuriate me, they're awful. I'm disabled too, but it developed over time due to genetic disorder, so it hasn't always been outwardly noticeable. I once had the door-to-door god squad giving me the bullshit one day and while they were talking I was flipping through the leaflet they'd given me (I like arming myself with knowledge to fight against the particular flavour of bible pusher) and read that same kind of stuff that they believe kids born with disabilities are being punished for since in a previous life. At the time I was a light christian (I believed in a god who loved everyone and no one was wrong or sinful for their sexuality, alternative religion, etc etc unless they were bigots and hateful), and I had a step-nephew who was born with severe learning disabilities and had lost a cousin as a baby due to a heart defect. I'm not ashamed to say that I went off on them. Oddly enough we were never bothered by them again. I just don't understand that mindset. I consider myself atheist now, I'm not sure how well I'd be able to argue the bible side of things now that I'm more familiar with the shitty things that are said in it, but I still get so angry at that implication, because even if you assume it correct it makes no fucking sense, what logic would there be in punishing someone for something they have no memory of and never will and that was done in a whole other life that they're unaware of. But also, how fucking dare they call disability a punishment! 😡 😤 I hadn't even got to the homosexuality is a sin bullshit, probably just as well, I might have burst a blood vessel.

I've read that one about the wisdom teeth and I applaud OP. I got all four of my wisdom teeth out at the same time and they also had me put under with IV medication. I was so out of it when I came to that my mom (who drove me there and back) said I was laughing and then crying at random license plates on the way home. I cant imagine being near a body of water like a pool when so out of it, OP could have wandered off and drowned.

I'm happy to see the parents standing up for their kids. Sure it's the sister's wedding but she could have at least had the curtsy to call her nephew by his name rather than being the one to cause a scene at her wedding by using his deadname. Also the last one is infuriating. There's teasing & then their is bulling someone. People tease each other all the time but they stop &/or don't cross the line to make fun of someone. The family knew & did not care which is messed up. I hope the person divorced their husband because they don't need abusive people like that in their lives

11:40 pansexual here, i can be sexually attracted to all genders that exist, especially women. I hug my mom all the time, sometimes i lay my head on her lap while she plays with my hair and we watch TV. I am a grown ass woman but when it happens, i feel like a little kid that is protected and taken care of by her mom. I have never felt anything remotely sexual (fucking duh) because she literally is my mom and i see her as a protector, an authority over me, and a wise woman to take advice from when i need. If someone i had a crush on laid my head on their lap and started caressing and playing with my hair, i would probably be aroused, lovestruck and unable to stay reactionless. Why? Because i may want to take things further, or be very excited thinking they have the same feelings for me. When my mom does that, i can randomly fall asleep, walk away to answer the phone or go to the bathroom, the maximum feelings i will get are thankfullness and fear of her not having long years left. In my humble opinion that mother is 1) Unfit 2) Disgusting 3) Sick, possibly a pedophile 4) A Karen, or about to become one 5) Watching too much porn 6) Invasive I resent her for making me feel like i even need to explain this. She needs therapy, re-education, and time to mentally grow. I would like to tell her that she is forbidden to show anyone that has a possibility to love women any affection incliding her children, step children, sons and daughters in law, nieces and nephews etc. and see her reaction.
