Relationships can be hard, but here's an easy one: If a person hits you, that person doesn't like you.
@jemiu95255 жыл бұрын
I think the more fucked up reality is that they might actually like you or love you, but their love for you will just never, ever be more important to them than their need for control, their own insecurities, their issues with aggression, possessiveness, paranoia, etc. No amount of enduring abuse will ever make you 'earn' a higher priority than their own toxic selfish bullshit. The mindfuck of all that is why it's often hard for people to leave abusive relationships--the hope that after enduring the abuse, your pain will motivate them to change/become healthy. No. It won't. Their love for you (or others) is not important enough to them to supersede their abusive tendencies. That's never your fault, ever--but it still fucking hurts. That reality leaves a massive emotional scar on victims. Their self-worth vanishes. For any victims who might read this, just remember: it's not your job to fix someone else, you didn't do a bad job, no one else's "love" is gonna be able to fix it either, it's not your failing. Non-abusive people are able to look past themselves and make loving you important. We don't earn it through abuse, we are given it willingly. You're important and deserve it. You'll have it. Big tip: Focus on how you feel when you're around a person, not what they're thinking of you. Stick around people who make you feel good when you're near them.
@wolflegend47565 жыл бұрын

6:25 This is a very real law across all of the US if I'm not mistaken, or at the very least Illinois, that many people are not aware of. If cops are called to respond to a domestic violence dispute and anyone is harmed in an alarming manner (blood, bruises, broken bones, etc), someone *has* to be arrested in fear that the victim may be downplaying the assault. I'm sure this law has helped out many people in the past, but let me share a funny story about how I came into a brush with this law personally: I was in my late teens and going through the bull shit angst filled "Catcher in the Rye" rebellious phase which made me have a tenuous and strained relationship with my family, primarily my siblings. One day when the tensions reached a boiling point, I got in a fight with my older brother that was the epic climactic battle between a younger brother that was sick of getting pushed around by the older just because he was bigger, and the older brother not wanting to admit that the bratty and annoying younger brother had become old enough to be considered a peer (in size anyway, still had a long way to go in the brains department. Still do). After several minutes of a back and forth and me finally starting to get the upper hand against him, he reached out and grabbed for anything to hit me with and the first thing he grabbed just *happened* to be a samurai sword. Yes this is going exactly where you think it's going. He tried to beat me down with the sheath on like a baseball bat, but mid-swing the sheath flew off and the samurai sword sliced my left elbow open 12 inches across and two and a half inches deep. I lost 5 pints of blood, needed countless stiches and staples, and to this day still have 8 screws and a plate in my elbow to hold everything together. After the dust settled we found out about this law thanks to the ambulance calling the police in response to taking me to the hospital. Because of the law, someone needed to go to jail. If my brother went to jail, he would go to jail for attempted murder and be facing felony charges stacked with potentially decades of jail time. Me on the other hand would only face misdemeanor battery charges and probation since I was a minor, so I ended up getting prosecuted by the state after getting out of the hospital. After nearly bleeding out and a 10+ hour surgery, I was arrested. No hard feelings to my brother or the state, as my relationship with my family has worked itself out after I became less of a dumbass and somehow miraculously maintained full functionality in my left arm. I'd hate to think my brother would still be in jail over this considering it was just a bad fight between brothers that ended less than optimal, I just still laugh to this day that I nearly died and got arrested as a result.

@@giuliapaschoarelli4480 I mean yea can't disagree with you there but I can understand why this law is in place. I looked into it, and it regrettably happens more often then you think. The state's attorney was a capital C Cunt though, she didn't even read the docket and assumed I was the one who was the cutter rather than the cuttee and wanted to throw me in jail lol It was fun watching her make a fool out of herself in front of the judge though

Some states pick and choose when they want to use it. My stepfather was abusive only toward me. One day he bust my nose, broke my glasses by punching me in the face, and pulled my hair out of my scalp, I was wearing braids. The police responded. No one was arrested although I was bleeding. The cops said since I was the minor if I pressed charges I would have to find somewhere else to stay. Later found out it was all bs because I filed and was granted a restraining order which forced him to leave, even though his name was on the mortgage. That was the last straw, he told my mother he wasnt paying for a house he wasnt living in and filed for divorce

If "someone who used to make you super happy doesn't anymore" this doesn't mean you should immediately try to find someone else. There are ways to solve issues, improve relationships and become a better person in the process. I understand that this is not always an option, but running away when you feel the slightest discomfort is a really unhealthy thing to do. Ultimately, it's all about balance. You should work to change things you can change for the better, but you shouldn't waste time trying to change something that you can't change. And the most important part, you should strive to be wise enough to distinguish between the two, even tough it's really hard sometimes.

My fiancee was a psychotic mess who believed that something was always going to kill her. First it was her rotting teeth (they were fine), then a gingival (gum) abscess (which didn't exist), then a blood clot in her legs that was going to go to her brain (she showed no symptoms), then a blood clot in her leg that had gone to her lungs (again, no symptoms), then her teeth again. At the beginning of 2016, she tried to get multiple dentists and oral surgeons to rip out all her teeth so they could be replaced with dental implants. When this didn't happen, she tried to kill herself, so I calld the police and had her committed to a psychiatric ward. She signed herself out after three days. Happened again a month later. After that (late 2016 through 2017), it was memory issues caused by medication her mother had tricked her into taking against her doctor's advising. The entire relationship was a one-sided shitshow that consisted of me pouring everything I had into taking care of her and being there for her without an ounce of thanks in return. Broke it off at the end of 2017 and it was the best thing to ever happen to me.

Was engaged to this girl, I was madly in love, like I had never been before. Any way, we had planned our wedding and were looking at rings and had picked a few that we liked and wanted to make a choice to make our engagement official (I had proposed before at a corn maze during a date night but I had no ring yet, we were just that "in love" with each other), one day out of the blue she texts me and says "I need a brake, I just have a feeling that you're going to leave me for someone else because of my condition" (she had been in very serious car accident years before were she was in a coma for 6 weeks and only had about a 1% chance of ever being back to normal, she had to learn how to talk and walk again, she was completely normal now, except for the occasional migraine and extra care we had to take with forcing her brain too much with stress and stuff like that) I said "I would.never do that, I want to marry you no matter what". She broke up with me over text, her and her family blocked me completely in every way possible and six months later she married her brother's best friend which was "too old for her" in her own words "he's like a big brother to me" she said (I was 25 she was 21, guy was 27), I only found out because we had 1 friend d in common. At the end she did loose me, I have a wonderful wife which I love greatly, we have a wonderful family and she has been my rock when I most needed it and would never trade her for anything in this world, it did take me a long time to find closure since everything was so sudden, my wife was such a blessing and so understanding, she loves me when I felt so broken for something I did not do, that's when I know she was my one and now we're happily married.

After being forgiven for cheating on me twice on our 2 year relationship, she started claiming that if she'd do it again it still wouldn't count that she was cheating because "she was still inexperienced and couldn't control her feelings like I could" (she was 19, I was 21 when we first got together. It was our first serious relationship, so I was as inexperienced as her). Cheating wasn't even the reason I broke up with her, as she was starting getting really possessive and unbearable as the relationship went on. She would constantly nag about how I never liked her and that I wanted to be with other girls more (ignoring the fact that I would spend hours of travelling to be with her). I learned two things from this relationship: 1. People change after they've secured their relationship. 2. People can take you for granted if you're patient and understanding.
@Gigi_Ouija5 жыл бұрын
@Melissa Tavarez It can definitely be more complicated than that. I'm not defending cheaters, but they're also not always monsters.

Wow. Her excuse for cheating makes me furious! Such bs I got into my first and still ongoing relationship when I was 19. We've had our ups and downs, but the one thing I put above all else is loyalty. Break that, and it's over. Hate to admit it though, the above commenter is right about how complicated cheating can be. It is possible to not only work through it but come out the other side together stronger. Like anything, I'd imagine it'd take a lot of work. I can tolerate and forgive & forget many things, but I'm not sure I'd be able to with cheating..
@ShoulderMonster5 жыл бұрын
@Cat Satan I agree. But people are still people, we all make mistakes. Some are just more dire than others sometimes. If someone cheats the relationship is _most likely_ done for/not worth it next to 100% of the time (once a cheater always a cheater), but I know a couple people who've made it work out despite the one's fault. He had one more night with his ex, and she was quite mature about it and stuck it through with him. Now they're still together years later and have kids and everything and he works hard every day to provide for everyone and be a better person. Does the past issue still come up sometimes between them? I've no doubt it does, but like anything relationship problems take tons of work and love to overcome. But I'd like to make a point that I don't think it can work out this well for most cases, it's quite circumstancial. Most cases are done out of deceipt and maliciousness, completely and most likely unapologetically taking advantage of the other's trust. I wouldn't trust them to change. Would completely drop it then and there, it's not worth the pain and abuse.

I don't think I ever really loved him. I was just drowning in depression and he was the first person in like 10 years to actually express interest in me, so I thought he was the best I was ever gonna get, and convinced myself to love him as best I could. But he was racist, sexist, and controlling. I enjoy BDSM in the bedroom, but he would constantly ignore my boundaries, and couldn't seem to accept that there was a difference between what I was OK with in bed, and what I was OK with out in public. He wanted me to be his obedient slave 24/7. He started demanding that I only eat the same food he ate. Tried to isolate me from my family and friends. He claimed he had a split personality, called, I shit you not, "The Wolf" - and that if "he" got mad and hurt me, it was my fault for making him angry enough to "let The Wolf out". He never actually hit me, but always made me feel like it could happen at any moment. Somehow, I was with him for 2 years, and had actually quit my job and was on the brink of moving across the country to live with him. I don't remember what the final straw was. I think I ended up breaking up with him over the internet because I was too scared to do it in person. That was nearly 10 years ago now and I'm on proper medication to get my mental shit together, and just celebrated my 6 year anniversary with the kindest and most wonderful woman I've ever known.

No, people just have the wrong perception of what the one is. They buy into the Disney version of limitless happiness instead of the real one, which is based on the desire to build a family together. If you can find someone who will commit with you to raise a family and stick with it, come what may, then that is the one. At some point you may be less happy than before, bored, etc. but you'll always be partners. This requires a lot of work beforehand to explain who you are and what you want from a relationship.

We were together for almost 4 years. We were engaged and I couldn't have been happier. He was my first serious relationship and I wanted to take on any challenges that were thrown our way because he was there, supporting me and I supported him. But then I had to move to another state due to family issues. We were tight on money so I wasn't able to visit him regularly, and because of this, he was accusing me of cheating, then getting angry with me when I'd try to explain that I wasn't. This kept going for a year and the feeling I had for him was gone by that point. I couldn't keep doing the emotional rollercoaster ( especially since my own mother was having depression and bipolar issues that drained me till I couldn't think anymore ) and the long-distance relationship. It just no longer worked out so I broke it off before anything harmful could be done and he said he understood. I told him that I'd still be there for him because I still cared for him as he cared for me, but he blocked me and cut me out of his life completely, even though I was confused with his actions, I understood if he was angry and wanted to be alone. A few days later after we stopped talking, he makes a post on facebook saying that I only broke up with him because of his grandmothers and dogs death, which wasn't true. He made up lies about me and accused me again that I was also cheating on him and that I was a slut, whore, skank. I was crying and thrown into a deep depression for a while. It hurt. It was ok though because after some time thinking it over and trying to move forward I realized that he never really loved me and that I was better off on my own. I was able to feel ok again. :) Edit: I didn't post this here for pity points or to have it gain attention. I just posted it here so others in the same situation can feel like they're not alone and maybe take action to better themselves by leaving the other person that's not making them happy or isn't benefitting them in any way ( everyone deserves to be happy ). If you wanna read it, like it, or comment, then that's fine. If you don't wanna read this, don't wanna believe the credibility of what's said, thumbs it down or tell me its bullshit then that's fine too. I really don't care. Your comment just screams that you have never been in a serious relationship that didn't end well. People are complicated, and often we fall in love before knowing anywhere near enough to be able to reasonably conclude that the person is as you put "someone willing to fulfill all the commitments it takes to have a successful relationship". Because we love the person and nobody is perfect, we are willing to put up with their flaws. Love easily blinds us from seeing clearly, which is why people in toxic relationships put up with things that to an outsider seem utterly horrible. It is only after breaking up that you see how unhealthy the relationship was for you.

If you take the advice of the last guy you'll probably divorce multiple times in your life. I've seen many couples that are still genuinely in love with each other and it's the most beautiful thing. So, don't settle for just happy but don't hunt for love like it's the last thing you'll do because you'll jump at every opportunity to feel like you're in love. Just live your life, go cool places and you'll meet someone you love.

I think y'all are misinterpreting what he said. He didn't say "You can't/won't be together with your partner for life". It was more along the lines of "Its okey If you aren't". There is no "the one" in the sense that there isn't this one person for everyone that's just perfect for them. Something like that doesn't exist and that's okay. Its actually a soothing thought. There is no pressure to find the one, you can just be happy with who you're with right now and there is not as much disappointment when the relationship you thought was for life didn't last. When you're in love you always feel like it's going to last forever and your feelings won't fade but life is often different

And here I am, sitting on the most boring reason ever. I have always said that I don't want kids of my own. Whenever any of my relationships start getting serious, I always make sure they know this. No kids. Everyone, her included, always assumed I would change my mind somewhere along the way. That once I hit my thirties, I would change my opinion on it. When that didn't up happening, she broke up with me because she couldn't believe I didn't want to have kids. I specifically told her this YEARS in advance. I specifically told her that I WAS NOT going to change my mind on it. She wouldn't believe me. Kept thinking I would change my mind, despite me saying I wouldn't (and still haven't). Not the most exciting story, but there you have it.

Out of curiosity, why don't you want kids?
@Xylarxcode5 жыл бұрын
@@kekelauren6251 That's a pretty long post incoming, but if you're interested, here it is: Same reason I'll never get married. I like the idea of doing whatever I want on my free time. That might sound selfish (and it probably is), but to me the idea of being forced to ask permission to see a movie with my friends or not being able to go out because I have a baby to look after feels very... suffocating. I don't think I could stand it, day after day. I am now at that age where most of my friends and family are into their 'baby period'. My best friend had his first son 3 years ago, then his second son 1 year ago, my brother had his first daughter seven years ago and his first son 2 years ago and my halfsister had her son 2 years ago and is currently pregnant with another boy. And all of their lives changed massively since the kids. A kid takes over your life completely. Where before we would frequently go out and do things with little to no planning, they now cannot do this anymore because they have children to look after. Any activity we do together now needs to be perfectly planned and line up with all their schedules. Their lives now completely revolve around their children and that's great for them, because they wanted that. They chose that. I love my niece and nephews and frequently look after them, but that's about as far as I'm willing to go with kids. I have a spare bedroom in my apartment that I made in a children's room so that they can spend the night every once in a while should their parents need that, but that's my absolute limit. I would never be able to devote all of my free time and energy on a kid, every single day of my life for however many years until their independence kicks in. I just don't have that in me. I love my free time. I need to know that when I wake up in the morning and I don't have work, I can sleep in or play a video game or skip doing the dishes that day or just go out bowling or see a movie and not have that be a burden on someone. If I can't bring myself to devote all my free time and energy and love on a baby of my own, then I shouldn't have one. Babies are a serious responsibility and deserve nothing less then a truly dedicated parent and I just don't have that in me and I doubt I ever will. Some people have it in them to be parent and some don't. I don't and I'm trying to be as honest about that as I can in my relationship. I don't open a relationship with that statement, but if it ever gets serious I do make sure that they know that so as not to mislead them into expecting things that will never happen. Living together with someone already comes very difficult for me. I feel limited in my ability to do what I want when someone else depends on me to do groceries or laundry or the dishes at a time when they need it, rather then whenever I want to do it. If that's already so hard for me to bear, I can't even imagine how much worse that would be with a baby in the house. At least my girlfriend is a grown woman who can cope on her own if I happen to not do something she needs, but a baby is helpless. If you don't take care of them when they need it, they can't cope on their own and ... well, that won't end well for anyone involved.

@@Xylarxcode I got you. And I don't mind the length lol. It's nice that you are a good uncle. How do you imagine your older years will be like? Like your 60's and 70's +
@Xylarxcode5 жыл бұрын
@@kekelauren6251 Hard to think that far ahead. I'm 34 now, so that's still 30 years away. I do sometimes think about it, but more in financial terms rather then how my social life would look like. I honestly don't know. Maybe I'll slow down a little as I get older and will actually settle down with a woman without feeling 'suffocated'. When I'm in my 60's or 70's, I won't have the energy to go out working all day and still have enough left to go out at night to catch a movie or go to a bar. There won't be any kids on my end, because I imagine that by the time I get there it would be too late to start having kids, but a relationship isn't out of the question. That could be a thing. It's not a given, though. Maybe I won't be in a relationship and I'll be alone in my apartment most of the time. Or with a friend or family. Most of my friends are roughly the same age as me. My brother is also my twin, so we're the same age, my sister is only 2 years younger and my best friend is 36. Most of my other friends are also in their 30's. I doubt I'll stay in touch with all of them until my 60's, but my brother and sister have been part of my entire life and I don't imagine that going away any time soon. My best friend has been part of my life since I was 16, so it's possible that he'll still be around too. People always tell me they get most worried about being left alone when they get older. That they would want their kids to visit them and that they want grandkids to spend time with. I'm not too worried about being left on my own. I'm not the most social guy in the world, but I do enjoy the company of others from time to time. My friends and family have always been enough for me to fill any social desire I have. Maybe that'll still be enough when I'm old. There's always the possibility that I'm gonna need to do some serious re-evaluating my old age at some point, but for now, I like to think I'm still young enough to not have to worry about that time too much. It's on my mind, but I don't freak out over something that's still 30+ years away. We'll see how things turn out as they happen, I guess.

He was a super nerd who read physics books fun, but she got him to drop out of college to support her and to go into carpentry. She bad mouthed my mother and had to have him do what she wanted. We moved across the country (Alaska to Florida) and he went without telling her he was as it would be easier because we had an extra driver who could swap out. He was gone for about a month and when he went back, he realized she was a bitch and that he wasn’t in love with her. They proceed to breakup. Years later to current time, my mom (who hated her after she changed) has been trying to get them back together. I believe he dodged not only a bullet, but a firing squad.

Both of these relationships were about to end, these were just the final straws. The first one was because of another girl. This girl tried to get his attention and texted him inappropriate things. I don't think he cheated or said anything he shouldn't have said but he still continued texting her. When I called him out on not breaking contact with her (they weren't at the same school or anything), he kept saying sorry and promised to delete her from his contacts and Facebook, which I made very clear I wasn't expecting, I just didn't want them to talk, but he insisted. A month later they were friends on Facebook again. The second was an IT guy. When we met, he worked at a low paying job he hated anyways and he haven't finished college because he didn't like the thesis topic options. I convinced him to finish it, but he didn't yet get the degree because he didn't have a language exam. He also got a different job that was much better and payed better, but still not a lot and he was in a huge debt from student loans. He was also living with his parents at the time (just like me) and tried to convince me to move in with them and have children when I was just beginning university (which he didn't like). The final straw was when he decided to start a new study in history(!). I found it very unreasonable because he was in a lot of debt already, had a language exam to take and a new job to work himself into. But what's worse is that I felt it greatly unfair that he would nag me for studying and not marrying him yet or moving in with his parents, while making decisions that would make it harder for us to have our own flat later on. I got the 'you're being unsupportive' card many many times and he left it for me to decide about it (which is, again, unfair, especially since he did it at the gate of the school). I told him to go, because I didn't think it was my decision to make and I didn't want him to hate me for a lifetime for it, but I really wanted to say no. We didn't last long after that and when I was breaking up with him, he told me he was afraid of my judgements and he had a health issue he didn't talk about because of that. He had a rare skin infection between his thighs (we weren't having sex for months due to my own stubborn health issues 'down there' so I couldn't know). That was when I knew ther was no coming back from this level of dishonesty. Looking back, I'm pretty sure he cheated on me. I don't know if his skin infection has anything to do with it, but my own health problems, especially their stubborn nature point in that direction. And I wouldn't be surprised if he did. He is the type of guy who is very moralistic and self rightous yet is in denial about his own actions, after all.
