The People's Court

The People's Court

Жыл бұрын

The plaintiff dated the defendant and they used to live together. The plaintiff says they agreed to split the rent and utility bills, but she never paid, so he’s suing. The defendant argues they never had an agreement. She claims he stole her furniture, so she’s countersuing for the cost of furniture.

This guy totally acted like a pimp. He found a young woman in need, quickly romanced her, moved her in and had her agree to pay half his bills/rent.... And then when she wasn't paying up, the violence came out. Sounds like he was already being controlling and aggressive considering the whole argument started because "she wasn't ready" when he wanted that particular morning🤨

I did have a boyfriend throw a wooden brush at my head (which could have hurt me), but he never did anything like that again. He was actually a really good man (other than losing his temper that once). Even after we broke up, when my mother died, he paid for us to both stay down in Kitchener for the funeral. He also helped me pick-up / move my new couch. However, that was different from a person punching her and then trying to hit her with his car. That's attempted murder, and any cop who didn't press charges on that, needs to lose his job!

it’s almost more concerning to be honest and act so casually about assaulting your partner than to try to lie about it bc the attitude he has about it is so weird. not to mention, he submitted evidence that makes him look way worse. there’s something off w this guy, glad she left him bc shit like that can escalate. no matter your gender, make sure you protect yourself and don’t give second chances to people who are willing to physically harm you as it’s often not a one time occurrence. nothing is worth risking your safety. think about all the DV victims who lost their lives before they got out of their situations and know that it could be you if you stay.

This 1950s rhetoric about women can't be wrong is antiquated. The fact that she put her hands on him first as justification for anybody to defend themselves. Another starch example of the sexism display bar court system, and the female judge in particular. The showmen stood zero chance of succeeding for the moment he stepped into the courtroom. Even though this toxic loser who took advantage of him and assaulted him first gets away with everything. Shame on them

I dont know about all the extra ish you said, but I do agree that there was gender bias in this case. Both parties agree that she owed and did not pay but that was never taken into consideration while ruling.

This was sich a ridiculous case. It was actually about unpaid bills owed and a counterclaim of furniture but everyone seems to forget that. Instead JM made this about spousal abuse and ruled based on personal feelings and not facts. The facts are she owed him for bills prior to leaving him and he had proof. Just because he hurt her doesnt mean the law doesnt exist. This case would be different if she had included cost of moving due to unsafe environment then the violence would actually effect the outcome of the case

The phrase "blood is thicker than water' doesn't mean what the judge and many other people think it means. It actually is saying that a chosen relationship is stronger than one you can't choose. The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb.

This is what I love in court “shows” versus real court. That decision was made up and “equity” law! Lol aka she owed him the money but since the judge didn’t like what he did she didn’t want to give it to him. Real court he wins and she needs to file charges

It appears she has made a number of bad decisions in her life. She has a 4-year-old kid, and she moved in with someone without really knowing them. In all likelihood, she will continue to make bad decisions, and you hope nothing more serious will come of them.

Judge Milian was really weird with them... One minute she is super female justice warrior, completely on the woman's side because of his ab*sive behavior during their relationship... Then the next moment, she is telling her all about how he looked at her so lovingly when she walked in and how he would do anything to see her and be back with her, all in an almost convincing tone like a friend would say to another friend about a cute guy being into them... Then she's right back to the female power, hate on him path... And at the very end switches is back with the cutesy talk, asking when's the last time they talked and telling her how he's still smitten with her... So weird. She was all over the place. Like pick a lane and stay in it! Jeez
