This is so good, I am already making menu ideas up. This is a recipe from World War II. I got the recipe from a video I saw on, I'mstillworking. This is an excellent idea especially when refrigeration is out or you just cannot afford meat.
/ imstillworkin
Recipe: (Mine is different)
1 cup of Oatmeal
5 tablespoon of dry egg powder reconstituted with 5 tablespoons of water
1 & 1/2 teaspoons of ground sage
1 & 1/2 heaping teaspoons of fennel
1/2 teaspoon ground rosemary
3/4 teaspoon parsley
1/2 heaping spoon of onion powder
1/2 teaspoon of celery salt
1/4 teaspoon celery seed
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 heaping teaspoon garlic minced or powder (we like garlic)
2-3 cups simmering beef stock (I made mine from bouillion)
Mix all the ingrediants up.
Form into patties
Easy fry in a ppan with a little oil (Just to tinge them a bit brown)
Add the beef broth.
Get it to boil and then turn it down to simmer a full 20 minutes
Pour off broth
Add oil to the pan and refry the patties til they are a nice color
Thats it.

Ok, here's a tip for you! Make this an "in a jar" recipe. Put all the powdered ingredients in and all you have to do is add water. Change up the seasonings for Italian sausage, country sausage, etc. You could even mix up the dry ingredients for the gravy in an open baggie, toss that on top of the sausage and seal. When ready to cook use the rest of the liquid that you cooked the sausage in for the gravy "water". Premix the liquid for sausage and use that in place of the water for the eggs. :)

Oh my gosh I made this today not as sausage but for patties to use as chopped steak with brown gravy. It was so delicious I may never go back to regular meat. I used 3 cups oats 6 eggs. 1 teAspoon EACH onion powder, garlic powder, salt pepper, McCormick grill mate steak seasoning and taco bell fajita easoning. 1/2 teAspoon red pepper powder. I mixed and let stand for about 10 minutes. I followed cooking instructions but simmered the patties using 1 package onion soup mix 2 cubes been bouillon and 4 cups of water. I did do the last fry. These were so good my granddaughter loved them. I had saved a few patties and she asked me for one to eat cold and plain. I ate one too. They were delicious even cold and plain. Really! So everyone out there try the basic recipe and play with it. You will be a believer

I can't eat eggs so I added some flax meal as a binder and mixed the dry spices into a small amount of hot veggie broth that I then added to the oats. I let it sit for a while to cool, then air fried the patties. It worked great, but not sure if these would hold up in liquid as well.

I made this on Sunday. I made an Italian meatball version. My boys 19 and 25 didn't have a clue. They were shocked that it was made from oatmeal. Thank you for your guidance! Being I used dry spices I did what you suggest and let it sit in the fridge for 2 hours covered with plastic wrap. I place the golf ball size balls into a thinner than usual tomato sauce and simmered on low for 2 hrs. Served with pasta and garlic bread. What a wonderful meal we had. It was soooo good that we decided to make 3 weeknight meals meatless.

Deb, I tried the Oatmeal "sausage" patties and my husband and I were so surprised at how delicious they were! Thanks to you and Geniusinexile and Linda's pantry for the help on this. I thought you might like the idea I used a long time ago to stretch my ground beef. I cooked my wheat berries til tender and put them along with a can of kidney beans through a meat grinder. as they come through they look exactly like ground beef, with the complete protein of both the wheat and beans. The red kidney beans give it a "beef" color. This can be combined with ground beef as an extender or used on its own. It does have to be formed (like meatballs or patties) rather than loosely fried. I made meatloaf with it (mixed 1/2 and 1/2 with ground beef) and no one could tell the difference. I got this idea from an old Ensign magazine from the 70's.

I have made this several times and I love it! I have found if I make a few batches ahead, without the eggs, for convenience, it tastes even better because the flavors get in the oatmeal better! Then all I have to do is dump it in a bowl and add the eggs for a quick breakfast.

Thank you for the video!i don't eat any meat and can't wait to make this.I will use ground flax seeds instead of eggs,(1/3 cup hot water,3tblsp of flax seed powder, soak for 5 minutes). not only does this save money but it spares an animal horrendous suffering and death.

I just made yours, Linda's and geniusinexille's recipe but added half cup of pulp from my masticating juicer (kale, beets, ginger and turmeric and a bit of cucumber and lemon juice) and I ground the oats and added a half cup extra of un-ground oats. I followed the rest of the recipe. The key is to let the patties sit after the second browning. OMG it was so good. I had it and flaxseed crackers and kale chips for lunch with about an ounce of extra sharp cheddar.I also made a fake milkshake by adding sugar-free vanilla pudding powder to my juice and shaking it in a jar. You can also put the juice in a blender with ice and the vanilla pudding powder. FYI one-eighth to one-quarter tsp.ground cloves helps to deepen the flavor, along with a tablespoon of worcester sauce

Am going to try this. I have used oatmeal as a meat extender for years. It is great in meatloaf and just the other day took 1 lb of ground turkey with 1 cup oatmeal and made 7 burgers in my burger press. These are nice sized burgers and I froze them then vacuum sealed 2 to a package. Great for hubby and I. Can be used as burgers, salsbury steaks, sauted in tomatoes for little meatloafs, etc.

I tried this meatless sausage recipe and I was very impressed with the texture of the finished product! I have a bottle of sausage seasoning and I would have used that, but I couldn't locate it in the pantry so I had to ad lib where the seasonings were concerned. I used oregano instead of rosemary and I'm sure it would have tasted much better if I had the correct seasonings, or some commercial sausage seasoning. Next time I plan to add 1/2 tsp. of brown sugar to the recipe just for good measure. I asked my husband, "Would you like to try some World War II sausage?" And he replied. "Is it still good after all this time?" ha, ha.

You can also use left over porridge especially if you a bit low on eggs. I also use walnuts with oatmeal in the patties. My mum was a Seventh-day Adventist and she always made these a varieties of patties and another thing she made was something she called 'gluten steak'. She was an adventurous cook. She also made a patty out of old mashed potato and onion and it always tasted like chicken. I must have a hunt in her recipe's for you.
