The gas lid paint color is not off, it’s the slightly faded paint on the vehicle that is causing the very slight mismatch. With a little rubbing compound to bring the old paint back to original shine and you wouldn’t know the difference. Also, when you do any bodywork where a tool has the potential to scratch the customers paint, I always put at least one or two layers of masking tape on areas of concern.

I'll add my two cents worth of knowledge here also. The rivet diameter is important to a degree. But what is more important is the actual rivet length, if you are trying to rivet together two sheets of thin metal such as a fuel door to a quarter panel the total thickness may only be .040 to .060" of an inch. If you try to use a rivet that has a body length of 1/2" it will never squeeze the metal together, it will be all flippy floppy and fall off. Rivets have a draw dimension ,it will say on the box .for example .020" to .060" . So use caution when you buy . Oh the thing you called a ( casing ) I think its actually called a mandrel.

It's a Ebay thing you read the description of the item when you order it but when you receive it, it's different then described. At least I'm not the only one that it happens to. Or when you phone the parts store they say they have the part but when you get there they don't have it. Then they say o we must have just sold it. We have a few parts store like that, you end up avoiding those stores or have the part sent to another store and have them call you when it gets there. When it doesn't show up at the store, they usually order it for you from another distributor. When that happens a few times the parts store doesn't bother trying to transfer the part, they just order it from another supplier.

When riveting things that are affected by gravity and supposed to hang off other things, one should rivet the top rivet first, so gravity has less chance to mess with the whole process. When doing the bottom rivet first, gravity tends to pull the top rivet attachment point away from where it is supposed to go. When doing the top one first, gravity tends to push the bottom rivet attachment point towards where it is supposed to go.

Remember when replacing a side mirror glass was simply getting it from the parts store and snapping it in? Not sure where this mirror came from but seems like standard insurance grade replacement so the company probably only makes the most common variants (non heated and heated) then list it for all models of the van. So you never had a chance to get the right part. Flip side is that the OEM replacement glass probably cost more that a full replacement mirror or one from the boneyard. Double screw on it is that if you went the boneyard route to replace just the glass and toss the housing/motor, there would be a high probability that the glass would either not heat or autodim. So most likely the customer is going to end up ordering an OEM glass or full mirror and the price will be not cheap at all. Source: have a 2013 F150 that had its mirror replaced with a boneyard part. Original mirror had heat and autodim and was powerfolding, boneyard replacement was supposedly like for like but the heater did not work and autodim failed shortly after (turned mirror fully dark), then cracked when I tried to remove the glass to verify if heater wires were getting power. Ford OEM Replacement glass is currently about 380 so decided to go with a cheapo eBay aftermarket glass that only heats and has the powerfold symbol engraved on the mirror. 24 bucks but had to have 2 shipments because first arrived poorly packed and cracked. But finally have a non cracked and heating mirror. One day I will upgrade to tow mirrors like you did on the Silvery-rado and rid myself of Ford's OEM overpriced nonsense. Parting note -- check out a few 12th gen F150 driver side mirrors. You will notice a lot of them cracked and or discolored. The above is why. Patience and perseverance pays off in the end. Keep calm and poppening the hood on, Ray!
