Thank you for sharing this video ❤ I'm currently feeling alone in my experiences as a 34 & a half year old. It all started 2 years ago for me when I had a heavy flow for 2 weeks straight, I thought I was going to bleed to death. A Nurse told me not to worry, it's just due to my age. A Doctor said the same as my hormone levels were normal. I had an internal scan and was told I have a cyst on one of my ovaries. I'm now on a wait list to see a Gynecologist. I'm currently on day 9 of a heavy period after not having one for the past 2 months. My Mum struggled with her Perimenopause to the point she got a hysterectomy. I'm just hoping that what I'm going through is normal and that I'm going to be okay. I'm trying my best to self soothe and reduce my stress until I see my Gynecologist as I need treatment and answers.

Excellent video, thank you. You explained peri better than anyone has. I had prolonged bleeding, along with irregular periods before hand, a couple of years ago and was diagnosed with simple endometrial hyperplasia without atypia. They tried to force me to get a mirena coil before diagnosis but I said no I'd make lifestyle changes, stop taking certain supplements etc. My 2nd biopsy came back the same, I saw a different Dr and he said there was nothing wrong with conservative care as long as I was happy. I had no symptoms btw, the irregular bleeding stopped just before the first biopsy and my period became regular just before the second. I'd started taking dim and put it down to that. Third biopsy came back all clear, the Dr I saw that time was amazing. The last biopsy came back as disordered proliferation of the endometrium. Again before the results the Dr was going on about the mirena. Surprise, the Dr suggested the mirena again. After researching this, it's basically nothing, I said no and my period remained regular until Dec last year. Had a very light and short bleed second week in Jan and I had a bleed last week, 7th of March. The bleeding again was relatively light and stopped for a day but I started bleeding again today. I'm wondering is it because I'd gone so long without a period and when it did come it wasn't heavy and that's why I'm bleeding. Could this be the case? My plan is to monitor it over the next few days to a week and if it hasn't stopped, I'll go to the Dr. I really don't want a mirena because any woman I've spoken to who's had one for gyne reasons, hasn't got on well with it. Fine for contraception though. If you've read this, thank you and I appreciate your advice

Hi Kirsty Periods coming and going like this is really common as you approach the menopause. Hormone levels at this time can fluctuate quite dramatically from day to day and this can cause very strange periods! However, you are wise in monitoring the length of this period, bleeding too long, even if it is light, can cause anaemia which you don't want. Best Wishes Eileen

This is such good information, Thank you! Ladies be careful of your iron levels. My periods became so heavy I couldn't leave the house and my male doctor dismissed me until I became so anemic I couldn't take it anymore and fought for help! I was losing a lot of hair/breaking hair, super dry skin, brittle nails, light headed, felt very weak, had memory issues, severe brain fog, etc. I am 50 now and hope all this "joy" is ending soon, but I had perimenopause symptoms in my late 30s which doctors of course dismissed and told me I was too young! Since middle school, I have been told my period problem is my age. Too young, too menstrual, too old. I was diagnosed with endometriosis at 27 via surgery. My endometrium is thick and biopsy was inconclusive, which apparently means I’m old. No one wants to treat endo and I am NOT getting an IUD. Not after a horrible birth, painful waste of a biopsy, bloody stools and kidney pain during menstruation, and pain from the age of 10. I’m done with gynecology. Besides, it’s not abnormal for me to be in pain and bleeding through pads and tampons together. I just invested in disposable undies so I can freaking go to work and I guess that’s the treatment for endo 🤷♀️.

I hope you are still replying to comments. I see a ton of information about heavy periods but almost nothing regarding periods that have become lighter, black in color, and combined with bizarre bleeding patterns. Like two weeks a few months then back to one week a few months. Never heavy. Almost not there. Do you have information on this? Is this normal perimenopause symptom? Does it mean thicker uterine lining? Too much progesterone?
@AvogelCoUk Жыл бұрын
Hi This kind of scenario is quite common; for some women periods get lighter and further apart and dark/black blood often indicates that the womb lining has been sitting for quite a while. However, this could be caused by a number of factors so it is wise to get this checked by your doctor just to rule out issues such as fibroids.

Extreme irritation, sadness and moodness and my chest feels like it's going to explode. Doctors here want to prescribe anti-depressants but the possible symptoms are very scary. @AvogelCoUk Жыл бұрын
Hi Erica Even having a couple of periods close together can quickly cause anaemia which, in turn, can trigger fatigue, low mood/anxiety, poor sleep and even joint aches and pains so it may be a good idea to take a gentle iron tonic, if your doctor hasn't already recommended one. If you are in the UK or Ireland, I would recommend Floradix which you can get at most heath shops and pharmacies. Acupuncture can often be helpful in this kind of scenario so worth looking into. I'm perimenopausal. I can't get my period to stop, right now. Last month, I only had pink at wiping for three days. So, I figured I was making up for it, this month. I know to eat for my hormones, but I can't find an answer to whether if I need more progesterone or estrogen to stop the bleeding. Any advice? I do have tiny fibroids and pcos, and I'm not concerned it's any medical condition, but hormonal imbalance causing it. It just don't know which hormone has to increase to stop the bleeding.
@AvogelCoUk2 жыл бұрын
Hi Caroline Unfortunately, it can be difficult to tell which hormone may be triggering periods as high oestrogen can do this but so can falling oestrogen! At this point hormone levels can fluctuate quite dramatically from day to day making it very difficult to see what's actually going on. However, fibroids usually indicate high oestrogen/low progesterone so that could be a factor. If the bleeding doesn't stop, it is wise to see your doctor as they may be able to give you non hormonal medication to ease/stop the bleeding; if it continues there is the possibility of ending up anaemic which isn't good for you. Best Wishes Eileen

@@AvogelCoUk I did check with my gynecologist, and an endometrial biopsy found “atypical endometrial hyperplasia”, which has a 8 to 40% chance of already having endometrial cancer. I was strongly recommended to have a full hysterectomy. It was very difficult to stand up for myself, but I asked for further investigation first. I didn’t want such a major, invasive surgery if it wasn’t really necessary. My gynecologist agreed to do a hysteroscopy with D&C. 90% of my uterus lining was removed and biopsied. This time the result was no cancer, no atypical cells, not even any pre-cancerous cells. He couldn’t understand what had changed in one month from the first endometrial biopsy in-office, to the second under anesthesia. He said this was a first in his 30 year career, but this is partially because nobody has ever gone against his recommendations before. So I’m sharing this to hopefully let other women know - get a second opinion, listen to your gut, and most of all don’t be afraid to ask for further testing before invasive surgeries. It’s very difficult in the face of the scary prognosis and recommendations, but I really feel like I did the right thing for me. I will need an endometrial biopsy in-office, once every three months for a year or two. They are painful, I can understand why some women might get the hysterectomy instead. But this is the right decision for me. Now everything is back to normal, just the spotting I mentioned originally mid-cycle.

They can offer something to stop the bleeding and also check that it's not being triggered by issues such as fibroids. It may be a good idea to take a gentle iron tonic for a few weeks to prevent anaemia from the prolonged period. Yes, definitely agree about all this being taught at school! Best Wishes Eileen

I’m 48 and what’s been happening to me for almost a year now is the following: One regular monthly period Then some spotting about 15 days later after that period The following month no period no spotting, totally missed period Following month starts with light spotting almost as if I was ending a period then a few days later a full on period It’s so bizarre especially for me since I’ve always been regular and on the spot all of my life. Also I use to have horrible cramping and clotting and now that’s gone. No cramps or pain some clots but nothing like before. Have you ever spoken on things like feeling flat or kind of like life just isn’t the same at times? Seeing your children growing and needing you less a loss of interest or even desensitized to things? It’s tough because I feel like many of us with the current state of the world may be feeling these same feelings, old, young, male or female but I’d love to hear your thoughts as well as anyone else that would like to chime in. Thank you for all that you do o really appreciate you and your channel ♥️

I also use to get clots and heavy periods. Now, at 49.5 I never get clots. Everything is easier for me right now. I did have a horrible time with depression and wanting to die, but poof, that is gone now. Also, I'm an empty nester......11 days now. My last moved out and I am THRILLED! It's so much easier without anyone watching me. I love my new freedom.

Hi J J Falling hormones can affect our emotions very deeply giving rise to feelings of disquiet, despair, feeling lost, not knowing who we are anymore or where we are in the world. It can also affect our ‘feelings’ for other people and we can end up reviewing our relationships in a different light. In general terms our hormone oestrogen keeps us connected to our family and loved ones and as this falls we can feel very insecure about our role in life in regards to others but also for ourselves and this can often cause confusion. The most important thing here is to realise that this is a phase or part of the menopause that you go through but it does end! I have also posted a couple of blogs on these emotional issues so hope they help! www.avogel.co.uk/health/menopause/videos/lost-your-motivation-wheres-it-went-and-how-to-get-it-back/ www.avogel.co.uk/health/menopause/videos/who-am-i-now/ Best Wishes Eileen

My periods were regular every 27-28 days , then at the age of 28-30 ( I don't remeber the exact time) they changed to every 24 days. Now my average cycle is 25 days ( for more than 5 years) I am 39 now.What concerns me that I am having severe hot flushes for more than a month now. Periods still more or less regular, no change in bleeding pattern or amount, almost no other symptoms of perimenopause.But as I know that hot flushes are symptoms of late perimenopause, I wonder if the change in cycle length was the first sign of perimenopause, that happened too early in my life.
@AvogelCoUk Жыл бұрын
Hi Mona It is possible that you started the perimenopause then but this is quite rare to be so young. Flushes and sweats can be caused by so many other health issues such as overactive thyroid function, ongoing stress, vitamin D or B12 deficiency or even diabetes, so the best thing to do is see your doctor. They can test for these just to rule them out and maybe do a sex hormone test to see if you are perimenopausal Best Wishes Eileen

My next period came in October and it lasted for 19 days but only the first 2 days were heavy. Is it normal to heavy bad uterine cramping after that long period? My OB doesn’t want to do another ultrasound because he said I just had one last June. He told me that i have 3 fibroids and 1 is a size of a tennis ball. 😢

Then they changed again to light only lasting max 4 days with the fourth day only having small amount of blood when wipping. That lasted a few months followed by light but being a few days to a week late and then a few days early. This month is scarring me because I am on day 7. First 2 days were pretty normal flows then got heavy and yesterday and today it is slowing down but has not stopped. I am also having some cramping and I am getting easily angry. I went to the doctor and he said I would get my period in February and that I was in the perimenopausal stage, and I got my period on Feb 25 which was too light didn’t even feel like a period but from Feb 26 till today March 11.I have no symptoms except dizziness due to loss of blood that is bright red had brownish colour twice and back to bright red. I won’t say it’s heavy but when I sit or lying down and then stand I have a clot coming. If I’m standing or walking no clots….when would my periods ends? It’s like forever with no symptoms…I had headaches for 3 days about 4 hours and when I sleep it goes off. But my period is going on quietly with no symptoms except dizziness. Just want to know when would this period stop? I used to be 70kgs and I dropped to 66 and then gained 2 kgs which is 68. I was taking care of my parents and dropped to 66 from Oct to Dec 2022 but still never skipped a period. Jan 2023 is when everything I mentioned started.

Hi Malin Although prolonged periods are quite common, they are not good for you and can quickly cause anaemia. This in turn can cause dizziness, fatigue, low mood/anxiety so it's really important that you go back to your doctor with this. They should be able to give you medication to stop the bleeding or refer you on to a gynaecologist who can check this further for you. You really shouldn't be bleeding for this long so please do see your doctor. Best Wishes Eileen

@@AvogelCoUk thank you for your response. I met the doc and was placed on Dicynone and ponstan forte for 14 days 3 times a day, I see changes slowly and yes my HB is 9mg/dL and I’m on hb3 plus with vitamin as all prescribed by the gynecologist. Hope I improve.

Hi Jodi This kind of scenario is common on the approach to the menopause but frequent/heavy periods are not good for you and can cause anaemia. It is best to get this checked by your doctor, they may be able to give you something to slow down the bleeding and also check that other issues such as fibroids, polyps/cysts or a prolapse and not a contributory factor Best Wishes Eileen

One just has to get checked if it becomes to worrisome or has more symptoms along with the bleeding. I went for some peace of mind. Stress can do crazy things to your body.
