Misha himself said that it was only a minority of people who always disliked new content each time they released some. These are pretty much the same people that bitched about the "girly voice" in the first album, muramasa when it was the preview of PII, the lack of vocals or whatever in some songs of Clear, and here the lack of old Periphery vibe : ignore them "preview people" are always afraid of change, never satisfied. But he also said that in the end those criticisms always get positive in the long run Here : "How sick are you of the broken record that is your fanbase? Honestly, they're bitching about the exact same shit as they always have for every release you've ever put out. Why the hell do these people just keep coming back to complain? I think they just care, and that is generally a good thing. Despite the complaining from the loud minority we also seem to be getting more positive comments and support than ever before. Our fans are passionate, and whether or not that seems to backfire on us in the short term, it has always worked out in the long term." (ask.fm)

Paying attention to the lyrics, this song has a lot of meaning. Many of us, atleast I myself at times, live my life feeling perpetually inadequate. A thought always persists in my head - "There's something in you that's missing, something makes you inferior". It's difficult to address your thoughts, process them and ascertain what it is that you want. Occasionally, what you want proves to be superficial that is related to an unresolved past insecurities. This song talks exactly about that. We're always bleeding on the inside due to the chatter in our minds. However, it may so happen that our reflections help us become the greatest version of ourselves - "What little time we have left to grow, separate mind from me, but I've got no adamant will to leave". You have to separate your ego from your authentic self and let yourself grow. Gosh, this life is a mystery and experience to be lived..... :)

If you're really missing "older" periphery sounds, I suggest you to seriously wait until the release. I just listened through the one-minute previews of both albums, and.... I suggest you to wait for MK Ultra, Four Lights, Rainbow Gravity and... well, shit, for the albums. The previews seriously convinced me to think that this is going to be the most experimental and the most heaviest album Periphery has released to DATE!

Just wait for it. By judging the previews of both Alpha and Omega, Alpha will have a couple of rather light tracks such as this, but if you're looking to hear Misha's older riff ideas for Juggernaut, they'll be mostly and widely present throughout the albums. No need to worry. Though the concept isn't about an immortal guy who travels through space and time, I bet Juggernaut will be just like it was supposed to be. Excluding Inertia though, or I don't know.

They released for now many songs from their news albums so.. We can be anxious about the future of Periphery now.. I'm not saying that this is going bad but it will be hard to find another (great) band as Periphery
@xzivanoid10 жыл бұрын
Inquisition Those five are (in my opinion) good, but certainly not as fine as the rest. Three songs from Alpha will be a bit "lighter", such as this. Those three include this song. The rest... Well, you'll be surprised. Omega will have one lighter song (okay, it's "Reprise", but it's literally reprising A Black Minute), and it will have one acoustic song (Priestess), Graveless and The Bad Thing are rather the weakest from Omega. Hell Below will be the heaviest track to date. Omega (judging by the preview) will be heavy, experimental, and even better than Racecar.

I'm really liking this track. it's my favourite that they have released so far. Again it shows signs of the Periphery we know and love but each new songs adds new elements and sounds which for me challenge me as a fan of the band and in a good way because I don't know what to expect. To see how they have evolved over the last 2 albums and the clear ep to this album is awesome. I really cant wait to hear these tracks live. Fingers crossed for a full UK tour this year.

I've been listening to Periphery almost every day for the last three years. I love their demos, Mishas unreleased songs, PI, PII, Clear and think these two releases will be quite as awesome. Maybe it's not as heavy as some of the old songs, but there is so much more emotion and the vocals are fantastic. If you think Alpha&Omega will lack heaviness; I strongly recommend you skip listening to the soft songs, choose your favorite Periphery songs and listen to Dissection, Behemoth or something else as black as the blackest night the rest of your time.

In a interview somewhere, you can find it on the KZbins, Misha says that periphery are a prog/metal band because if you call it prog you can do whatever the fuck you want. That's what they're doing and for that I applaud them. I love it and I'm happy they can release it to the public so easily, and those complaining and saying "where's the real Periphery?", this is the real periphery! this is the band as a collective, not just a load of rehashed bulb demo's! if it was the same a P1 you'd still bitch and moan. Take it for what it is and if you don't like this song give the full release a good listen, you might like it as a whole. Good Day :)

It's quite obvious that Periphery have made a paradigm shift with their style to a slightly less progressive and less 'djenty' sound (which may alienate some of their fan base), but the reality of music is that it's constantly changing, which everyone knows. Composers since composing was a thing have always changed their styles as time goes on, they grow, learn more about who they are as a composer and the sound and vision they want to express. Especially with a band like Periphery with so many voices and styles merging and co-existing it was inevitable that some sort of change would happen. Besides, if you don't like Alpha and Omega, there's always P1 and P2 to listen to, they were pretty dang tits.
@danwilliams499910 жыл бұрын
Can I just point out that 'the scourge' is possible the most progressive periphery track to date ... I think what's really the case is that they have become more diverse as a result of the band becoming more of a group output as opposed to just misha's ... I think on Juggernaut we'll see a whole variety of styles - I mean for a start 'the bad thing' would not have looked out of place on p1 in terms of djent-yness , so I doubt they are pulling back on that sound ... They are just incorporating more styles .

I personally think that it is impossible to judge these tracks separately. As every concept album it makes sense only when listened from the beginning to the end. It is meant to tell a story, and randomly listen to some stuff is like reading a few casual pages from a book. Wait till the release and I'm pretty sure every song will make sense with the way it was composed and with the episode it wants to tell. Just wait. By the way I really like this catchy choruses and I'm really happy that a great band like periphery has the ability to experiment and continuously change its style instead of get stuck in the same direction. Prog is all about that.

So many comments about people missing the sound of the old periphery. I understand that comment but here is my point of view. After this 'djent' thing got hot, so many bands took that idea and beat it to the ground. Especially the bands with the plural names like volumes, textures, monuments etc. etc. No offence in that but we have so many of them. To me music is not about doing a specific thing. It's all about being honest to the message you are telling, whatever the message is and whatever voice you have, just be consequent. Periphery didn't change its voice besides making it better. They are just telling us a different message and you have to listen to the story before judging the voice for sounding different. To me, they are better than ever before! I can't wait to hear all these songs in context. This is some fucking amazing music.

You guys need to understand that musicians write and compose the music that they like - that they think is best for themselves. I'm amongst the people who miss the kind of material they used to play on P1, but on the same breath - I don't 'block' myself from liking this just because it's different. They obviously took a more progressive approach to this album and put a lot of effort (in my opinion) to put Spencer more in the middle of the process. I like the songs they put off up until now. Yes, these albums are not going to sound like P1 or P2 at all, but the hack with it - we're still talking about fantastic musicians, playing great music. Try to open your minds lads, this double album is going to be great.

People are all complaining, but I don't think everyone seems to understand Juggernaut is a concept album. The songs can't all sounds all heavy-chuggachugga. I always found it pretty ironic whenever I saw people complaining about this song or album for being a "sell-out". Besides the obvious fact that this sounds like nothing on the radio and the fact that some people are way too scared of the infamous "selling-out" as if it makes the song worse (it doesn't), this is from one of the least popular periphery albums. If anything, the other albums are "selling-out" more, just to a different demographic. Sadly, I don't think we'll ever get another album that sounds like this from them again (Though I do like their newer and older stuff too). This is the song that got me into this band years ago and Juggernaut: Alpha was my favorite album for multiple years in a row. I still can't find something that can replicate the feeling I get from this album and it will always be one of my favorites.

I feel similar. I still like it, but Periphery set such a high standard for themselves with P 1 & 2. Part of me is worried that they might be losing the prog aspect that made them stand out. It's probably just due to Spencer and Matt's influence on the writing process though (they had the more straightforward songs on Clear).
@Orion1991z10 жыл бұрын
After listening to this I listened to Letter Experiment; I miss old Periphery. I get that bands evolve, but Periphery haven't evolved in a way that appeals to me, which is a shame since many people seem to feel similarly. More power to them I guess, but I'll be giving Juggernaut a miss.
@brandontadday628810 жыл бұрын
There isn't anything exactly WRONG with the new stuff they are releasing, it just seems that their new stuff isn't quite as ear-grabbing as their previous works IMHO. Every song on the self-titled was an absolute masterpiece of modern metal and completely changed my approach to writing and listening to music forever. Periphery II was incredibly melodic and catchy at certain parts and all the songs had a nice balance of "dark" and "light" to them. Clear was a pretty awesome considering it was just a small concept piece the band decided to work on, all the songs had their own wonderful charm to them and no two songs really sounded a like at all. The new stuff is great and all, it just...I don't know...isn't clicking with me like all of their previous stuff maybe? I think I might have personally hyped this release up too much in my head and expected an earth-shattering release better than their self-titled. It is probably due to my unrealistic expectations and passion for this band. I guess I will just have to wait until the full release comes out to make a full judgement on Juggernaut. They are still such an incredible band, I just think they will probably never top their first album, it was just such a high bar to set to improve upon and was in the works YEARS before it was even released (as I am sure most of you know, a lot of the material on that album had stuff from Misha's soundclick demos that were conceived ages before the album was released). I still have tonnes of respect for the guys being brave enough to expand their musical horizons and push beyond what the masses expect from them. Maybe it will just take I while for this release to grow on me unlike all the other releases. Peace.
