Honestly that's how I vent games I'm interested in buying. If it has good marks in my book I'll usually stop watching after a few hours and go buy it myself. I'll still look on occasion at game reviews but ultimately the reviewer is bringing their own biases and preferences which can be different from my own. So being able to just see how it plays, if someone is enjoying it and the general style is about as transparent as it can get for potential buyers

@@Mr.Faust3 i was hoping that would be a possibility but instead we steal a thing and suddenly awful person begins feeling guilty. every villain felt so laughable and then we do the "society made them this way" without actually delving into it any further. the reason why yusuke's link is so good is because it actually *does* show you that side to madarame. he didn't just take in yusuke to steal his work. he could have easily left him. he felt guilty, and did it as a way to atone for what he knew was effectively murder, even if he didn't actually cause yusuke's mother to have that seizure. it's why the narrative climax of 5 feels so middling to me, because the villain being societal expectation was not built up well at all. maruki was a great addition because his role is what I actually wanted from akechi, someone who opposes us from a point of genuine goodness and morality.

If I remember that right, Dark Souls already had a permanent time on weekdays, while they also had 2 other games already on rotation. If you liked the other 2 games you were SOL and would have been drip fed that content.

Regarding Pat bringing up the lack of any indication of NPCs in Trails in the Sky having new dialogue: while I'm only four games in (the Sky trilogy and Zero), it's such a mind goblin to have NPCs that can comment on quite literally any single thing that happens, required or optional, that I just don't do it. I highly applaud Falcom for even having that level of dedication to people you may not even talk with that most RPGs would just give NPCs one or two lines to, though. The games are *really* incredible from what I've played so far and I still highly recommend it, but I hope later games in the series kill this mind goblin.

@@sadv3 SC is twice as long as FC and its entire script be longer than the Lord of the Rings trilogy. The turbo button is going to be your best friend. I know it was for me in the 67 hours it took me to do quite literally everything I could, and that's *with* using a spoiler-free guide.

The most mind goblin thing in those games is that for a while I thought "well they have 2 talks of dialogue each refresh, often enough at least, so talk to everybody twice" but then I ran into somebody with 3 new things and it's maybe a 2% of the time thing but now you have to talk to everybody 3 times. I imagine if they do actually, for real, remake or even just port FC/SC/3rd again they'd hopefully bring that into the modern day. Tales of games have been doing it since Zesty and P3R doing it has been great.

Man, this brings me back. To think there used to be a time when Woolie had yet to try Persona. I don't remember if it was Pat who nudged him into it, but I do remember a certain podcast episode (back in ye olde Best Friendcast) where Woolie just *gushed* about P3. I remember it cause I was listening to it while folding clothes and I had the stupidest smile on my face, the likes of which you only get when you show someone a thing you like and they *really* get into it haha. Come to think of it, it was a similar situation to Souls games. I think Woolie has talked about it in the past but he said he'd previously not cared about them due to the whole "knights and dragons" aesthetic, but that he really got into it when he saw that it was so much more than that. I still remember the start of the DS2 LP where Pat was essentially coaching him through it lol... And here we are years later and honestly I think Woolie's LP of Elden Ring was one of the most enjoyable ones. Although I know Woolie had played other games in the past, I remember I used to think of him as THE fighting game guy, by which I mean he plays like 99% fighting games. I knew this assumption was incorrect back then, of course. Figured the dude played other games, he just gave me the impression that he was a mostly fighting games dude. That said, over the years he has really expanded his "repertoire" of genres, and I think this is in no small part due to Pat.

True RPG fans want to find out everything in the world by talking to NPCs. Yakuza is iffy because most of the NPCs lines are just random blurbs that have nothing to do with the mission or game so we skip those. So unless you are speed running or replaying the game, there is no reason not to talk to NPCs.

P5 original was just a random day in July, which like you could have beaten the third major dungeon by then but the arc wasn’t technically over by then. Royal was like the day the original game’s content ended, which was Christmas, and it probably was as soon as you beat the original final boss they didn’t want you streaming the story past that.

I beat FES last October/November and was too far in to stop when I heard about P3R. They didn't change very much at all from what I saw of Woolz' quck-look, so I have no interest in playing this unless they add Fem-C. It does look like that'll be too much work for Atlus, so I'm guessing a "complete" P3R will never happen, which is a shame. Unless they wait another 10-15 years -_- I somehow doubt I can handle playing anything from this series in my 40s or 50s :P

I will be the dissenting opinion that believes The Answer is good. It’s a little grindy but it is nowhere near as bad as everyone says it is. And the lack of a compendium is inconvenient but it’s barely a hurdle. I think it’s fully worth playing at least once.

Like with every version of Persona 3 there are pros and cons to it. I wouldn't say this is finally the one definitive version of the game but it is the most accessible and streamlined and that counts for something. I have minor nitpicks here and there but its still a good remake of a good game I've been enjoying my time with it. I really do hope they add DLC for the female protag at some point. I think she really should have been there from the start but at this point I'll take anything that is actually my one major gripe with the game.

P3R feels really good to play in every way but the new Mass Destruction is still terrible. Hate every time I get into a non-advantage fight and the horrible frog mix starts playing. Initially I felt like I'd hate tartarus again since it was so nakedly procgen garbage in the original/FES/P3P, and yes hundreds of more floors than was necessary, but turns out just giving it a P4/P4G level of new coat of paint makes it feel much better. Which I guess makes sense, but it's wild that it's that simple. The P3P rescue missions also do a decent job of nudging players to go in compared to the original release(s) so it's good that they kept those in. Biggest thing for me has been the new translation/acting for Yukari and Junpei, among other characters. They come off as way less hostile both to each other and the player character, which always should have been the case. I still don't like Junpei--he'd still 100% be a lost boy incel if the game were set in 2024 rather than 2009--but the more accurate translation is a huge improvement in his favor over english FES.

I both love and hate the removal of the fatigue mechanic. Yes, it was a gimmick to prevent speedrunning the floors and drag out how long it took to max your daily life stats, but I think the gimmick was hella interesting and unique. The twilight fragments though? Fuck that. I don’t like premium currency gimmicks, even if they’re plentiful and super easy to get.

The fatigue was indeed among a few barriers that has prevented me from finishing my P3FES run, so I appreciate the option to not deal with it, but I think it should have been kept in Merciless difficulty so veterans wont get bored. What's the point of so many difficulty settings if ALL of them are easier than the original?

I always thought the fatigue mechanic was a redundant and annoying impediment to the dungeon crawling in the name of some faux realism. The game already has a mechanic to prevent speedrunning the floors, it's called SP. If a player can manage their SP well enough and build enough resources, they absolutely should be able to speedrun floors. The game choosing a random moment and saying "no, you have to stop" was always the stupidest shit known to man. Twilight Shards are a much more interesting mechanic to me, because by having them being rewards for the social sim half of the game, you encourage the player to do a big chunk of social sim, then a big chunk of tartarus, which I find more enjoyable than flip flopping between them every half an hour. That way, you get a bunch of resources from doing a bunch of social sim, than cash them out by going through Tartarus, and then you get enough cash to reequip and resupply for the bossfight. It's a way more natural, cohesive and engaging gameplay loop in my opinion.

It's quite well balanced compared to any other release and probably has the best combat in the main series on merciless. I am torn on the removal of the tactics system from a thematic standpoint though

It’s so funny hearing them talk about Persona 3 social links all making them feel like “Ugh, I guess I’ll spend time with you” because I loved P3 but had that exact reaction to P4. Ignoring all the issues with the writing in Persona games, I have a hard time seeing the appeal. Even back when P3 FES came out, during a time I devoured any and all RPG I could get my hands on, I couldn't beat it from sheer boredom. If I wanted a life sim with mid-to-bad writing I could play one for free on Newgrounds. But honestly the dungeon was the worst part. Boring dungeons, boring battle system, the whole leveling up Persona separately stuff, it is all so mind-numbing. I got half-way through before I couldn't take it any more. P4 and P5 are the same thing but with more homo/transphobia (sorry to anyone who grew up thinking P4 was the opposite) and student-teacher dating. I heard they changed the requisite trans-scare in this version of P3 so that's nice at least. But for me the only appealing thing about this franchise is the presentation and music. So I can just listen to the soundtrack and ignore everything else about it, thankfully.
