Asgreen was outstanding this spring on the exact same bike (probably even heavier since he rides a bigger size) and it didn't prevent Alaphilippe to fly to the win in the steep gradients of the Mur de Huy and I fail to mention the rest of the Wolfpack, that lived up to its reputation. Now that was just a bit for the sake of oposing. I do agree that this is a heavy bike, especially considering the specs and the fact that it's als ridden by the gc contenders sponsored by Specialized. No wonder why the Tour de France winners still stick to rim brakes.

An aero bike will only give a small marginal gain so long as the rider is aero both in the kit he wears and in his position on the bike. As with the car industry and in motorsports, nothing beats optimizing power-to-weight ratio so a very light bike will make more sense. The pros are contracted to ride the bike provided by the sponsors but the race results proves what is so obvious.
@timocallaghan4408
@timocallaghan4408 3 жыл бұрын
@@jestag2 Not to mention that those marginal aero gains are based on solo riders over 40 km time trials. How often do pros try to win a stage with a 40km solo attack.. Almost never. Most likely not but I believe the frames supplied to the pros went into stricter QC because if anything fails, the company will embarrass themselves.

Pathetic! Giving a $13,000 bike that weights 7.8kg to Sagan.

: You are getting ridiculous. How on earth can a pro bike from 2021 weigh 7,8kg? You have to have meassured it wrong or with bottles or whatever. You really need to start telling what was on the bike when you've weighed it or else it makes absolutely no sense. - 7,8kg that's just ridiculous. - Also, threaded BB now that's a big big plus for Specialized. For my next bike only frames that come with a threaded BB will come into consideration. And it will have to be lighter than my old 7,4kg bike(in training mode) from 2009. 7,8kg for a bike that costs 10k+$... there are full on motorbikes that cost way less and cars that cost only 20% more and this is "just a bike" with almost no moving parts compared to an engine :D

Sagan is a very strong and not a light weight person so he probably likes all balance of said weight ...he is on a 56 with large components...huge chain rings long stem can't go soft with that man ...he was a MTN champ too...used to more bike

Those are tubulars on that bike!

Nope. Specialized hasn’t made tubular wheels in that range of Wheelset. The front rim width is much wider than the conventional and it’s also wider than the rear rim. That bike is a complete flop.

Size 56 weighs 7.1kg without accessories. I put it on the scale in the store. It’s a venge. The aethos is the tarmac.

My Sworks SL7 with heavier wheels is 7,2 in size 56 so that bike is not 7,8kg without full bottles

Specialized made a complete flop on this bike. They managed to release the aethos which should sort that abomination of a road bike and put things back where specialized should be recognised . So many people still bought the sl7 and It just goes to show how powerful marketing is.

Lol at all these commenters complaining about the weight like all these riders aren't absolutely smoking climbing & course records on these bikes. Go look at WVA's Cervelo S5; that bike weighs over 8kgs and he's doing fine.
