Peter's mother has very poor boundaries, is controlling of the entire household, is enmeshed with her sons, and plans on staying in control of Peter. A histrionic personality, this mom needs to be told to back off...and it seems that Madison has the backbone to do it. Now Peter needs to cut the umbilical cord that keeps him harnessed to his mother. The remedy to that is to move away and limit his time with the dysfunction in his family. Boy & King I think something Madison said on the show really applies here: both of them have no clue what real everyday life is like with eachother so I find it super reasonable to not jump into an engagement and actually put in the time and the work into seeing if the relationship is practical. Again, that’s Peter’s life to live. Also, a mom who reacts like Barbara did is not a mom who’s been excluded from the vast majority of adult life and friendships. I think Barb is disappointed in her son, and hurts for him knowing as his mother that his future won't be happy with Madison. She knows her son is making a big mistake, and unlike many (but not all) American mothers out there, she doesn't just sit back. As a mother, she's going to warn him about the big decision he's making, she has every right to do so and be upset over the fact that he played with a beautiful girl like Hannah Ann's feelings. He did her wrong, and walked away from someone who would love him unconditionally. It wasn't just about the sex thing, Barb mentioned Hannah Ann's radiant energy and love that she immediately felt when meeting her, first impressions are important. I really don't get Barb's tactics here. At the point of the show where its just Madison left, Peter and her have obviously decided to make a go of it. You've made your feelings known, and he's decided differently. A wise person would SUPPORT their child even if you felt differently. Reason? If the relationship fails, part of that failure will always be because of your meddling. And if Peter believes this was the "great love" of his life lost forever...he's GONNA have resentment toward you the rest of his life too. If they somehow manage to stay together, then the couple will obviously distance themselves (and future grandchildren) from you as well.
