IN THIS VIDEO WE REMOVE THE LIFT AXLE FOM THE OTHER TRUCK. WE HAVE NAMED THE OTHER TRUCK "SOUP SANDWICH"....WHAT A MESS. AS WE REMOVE THE LIFT AXLE A WELD ACTUALLY FALLS OFF THE TRUCK! WE THEN TEAR THE AXLE APART TO INPSECT ITS CONDITION. JUST LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE ON THESE TRUCKS, IT IS WORN OUT, IMPROPERLY REPAIRED OR NEGLECTED. SO TIRED OF THIS JUNK....WE JUST WANT TO QUIT. I GET ALL THE PARTS ORDERED. THEN WE MOVE ON TO TIRES. IT GETS 8 NEW DRIVE TIRES. WE INSTALL THEM ON THE DAYTON HUBS AND CENTER THEM. SET THE RIDE HEIGHT AND START TO GET HTE DRIVESHAFT INSTALLED.....BUT WAIT! THERE IS MORE! THE DRIVE SHAFT YOKE IS WORN OUT AND HAS NO THREADS IN TWO OF THE BEARING CAP RETAINER BOLT HOLES! PERFECT!! ANOTHER DELAY AND MORE MONEY!
SO CLOSE. YET SO FAR....

Thank you for showing how difficult it is to properly stretch out a frame and replace all the worn parts. It is also nice to see you have sown how bad other individuals shortcut and butcher a frame job. That is one of the worst frames I've ever seen that you took the drop axle off of. Please keep making these videos.

I am amazed at every project you build. Your like a modern day Dr. Frankenstein. You take rusty, worn out, and broken parts that no one would look at twice and assemble them into useful, working trucks. It shows that with a lifetime of knowledge, money and drive anything can be accomplished.

Here in the UK we call that sort of welding "Pigeon Shit" lol. The worst welding I've ever seen on a vehicle of any sort! That bearing pre load was far too tight. There is something wrong with that spacer. Maybe the idiot who did the work ground a bit off of it lol I'd check manufacturers of hubs specs for the spacer dimensions. Personally I would have changed the hub bearings but, hey I used to love spending customers money lol Your explanation of the prop shaft geometry was absolutely excellent. I don't think that could have been explained better anywhere!

To anyone out there that might (or will at one time) have said 'Why do I need to know math? I'll never use any of that' or something similar....Well....This is why. Those pesky numbers and geometric theorems can and will pop up anywhere and everywhere...regardless of how little you might think you'll 'never use them'. TBH....I'm not even sure how I ended up on this channel. I'm not a trucker, I wouldn't even think of calling myself a mechanic....I do have some fabrication and engineering experience but nothing as involved as making sure a several ton potential death trap is safe for the work it is intended and the roads it will use. That said....I'm a new fan. Correcting the lazy work of butchers AND math combined with some hard work and willingness to learn? I'm all for that. Thank you for providing this content...I may not ever use anything learned personally (at least not in this particular field or application) but someone, somewhere will and passing on your knowledge and ability has immense value and again...I can't thank you enough.

I just cant fathem why the customer wouldnt just have bought a newer axle setup, that would switched everything to hub pilot. seems like a no brainer since your already doing all that work.

If you’ve watched the series on the truck, you’ll see this guy doesn’t think smart. He thinks to save a “buck” and spends $1000 extra each time instead

@@braaapattack2937 yeah man I’ve seen that, trucking is the wrong business for that kind of mentality.

Great job explaining things so very well, thank you. I was wondering what the weight rating of the steer axle happens to be?

You spent a lot of money, but that will be a nice truck with NO DEF and that is totally worth it.

Ran recaps on 11 axle units grossing 164k. Low air pressure kills tires, and damaged casings. Someone recapping a 20 year old casing that has been recapped 3 times, then run low on air. No kidding they explode.

You got the part about J.C. getting it done. However, in my experience, this type of customer will NOT appreciate the quality of work. EVER. Bad deal for J.C. and professionals like him!

There should be a D.O.T. J.C. Smith standard for all rebuilds of heavy trucks. That's my opinion. I don't care who you are!

I have been a professional welder for over fifty years. For a hobby I built race cars and street vehicles during these years. Never have seen such a mess. Danger Danger ! 😂

It is a shame that what was still a truck that could have been repaired and put on the road, and now, with the poor work on the frame, the whole mess is scrap bound!
