I like to say this what another KZbinr said about his project: You don't finalize anything until you have finalized everything. Good call in putting grease into the mating surfaces. It will take a long time for rust cavities starting to form. One thing about the tag Axel if it's too crooked or way off like on the other frame before. All the air hoses will be kinked or stretched out, not something you want to have. That was ingenious way to push out the old pushing using a already existing heavy weight machine. I'm sure the dub and tile silicone was fine..not really cause it will not stop oil from leaking ask me how I found out.

so far he is reacting well to the new medication. we take him back to the cardiologist in a few weeks to do a echocardiogram again. they will also put a heart monitor on him. we will take him home and return 24 hours later to have it removed. they will analyze the recordings.

the fleet I help maintain is mainly Volvos and freightliners. I recently just finished installing a radiator in a freightshaker. i also just ordered the material for my ase certs. though im well aware I've got a long way to go in terms of the industry. I hear a cutting torch works pretty good for drilling holes in a truck frame..... 🤡 I do like the punch that you used to find the centre of the existing holes.... Is there a set for different size holes?

You can get a punch set that does a bunch of holes. I can't remember exactly what's it's called but it's just a bunch of different size center punches

yes. my set is in 1/32 increments but stops at 1/2" inch. so i used the the that fit inside my anular cutter that i had already used to drill the holes.

Helpful tip: when it comes to drilling multiple layers with annular cutters (double truck frames e.g.) Jancy, and I’m sure others, makes what’s called “I.D.” sharp cutters. They work great because you don’t have to pick out each individual layer. I drilled a lot of multi-layered holes before I knew they existed. Hope this helps.

35:32 you can get those lines from overtorque as well. I am guilty of that mistake, i wasn't paying attention in my early days and set the torque wrench to almost half as much, which damaged the bearing race. It's a hardened material, but it's less hard than the pins. Doesn't take much, and considering you found it so tight, i find it likely that he did that.

Something to think about. The straight air control for the lift axle is simple. However,,,, If the axle is left down when parked, and truck turned off, if the drive axle air bags leak down before the tag air bags leak off, and if the truck is on an incline, the park brakes aren't going to hold the truck from rolling. This is the ONLY reason I do like having the electric control with the multi control valve, as it automatically dumps the air in the tag axle bags when power is turned off. (The lift axle switch is powered by "key on" power). I have also installed a lift axle system that self adjusts the brake application pressure on the tag axle by sensing the load, and increases application pressure when load increases. The company demanding those was building fuel delivery tankers.

i see. if the drive axle air bags bleed off, then the lift axle is going to bleed off as well. they are plumbed into the same tank.. since this is a spring lifted axle, it will automatically lift the axle when there is a loss of air pressure. the drives will require more pressure than the lift axle. the truck is not shut off when loaded. it only shut off when it is empty. however, i do see the need for adding a scotch block holding just in case.

On the lift axle controls I didn’t think the pressure regulator was allowed in the cab or at least in reach of the driver. We have a neighbor who received an overweight ticket because they disallowed his lift axle because the regulator was in the cab

I'm pretty concerned about the water tank mounts. The tank is not supposed to be hard mounted to the truck frame and it needs to move more than you would think and is bolted down with springs. If this is not done correctly you will crack the tank. I have a couple trucks with I think the exact same tank mounts as that one and some different style mounts as well. I can do a short video if you want me to show the mounts.

I didnt explain the next process. the tank will sit on 1" rubber on top of the truck frame. it creates a 1 inch air gap between the tank mounts and truck mounts.

As for those bearings/race you are not seeing maybe the old bearings.. maybe the old bearings were trashed from metal and running dry which ground a ridge in that race. Then new guy wad lazy and only swapped bearing

There is no doubt that you do excellent work, but why would you put the tag axle all the way to the rear of the tandems? Usually, they are placed in front of the tandems. When in the rear, they bounce up and down like crazy when lifted.

in front of the drives is fine for on roads but when you are backing into driveways off of a single lane road he needs as short a wheel base as possible. also, he only needs the lift axle for 1/6 of the miles that the truck is driven.

That hole on that bronze bushing that was not at the grease port.. when you installed new bushings you put the hole where the grease fitting is (lined up).. I think that's wrong and the original was right. Hear me out, cam bushings in an engine have a hole just like that and a Grove around the outside and GM specs like 3o clock for that hole. Putting the hole right at the grease fitting/oil hole doesn't allow the back pressure to feed oil/grease around the entire bushing vs just out to outside.. as you left it grease will push inside bushing and to outside vs running around that Grove and greasing both sides as designed

i could go with that way of thinking for sure. however.....a cam needs to have enough oil flow but not too much constantly. in this case pressure is only applied momentarily with the grease gun or load applied against the grease by the s cam itself. either was its probably best to grease it while the brake are being applied and released. i think that would satisfy all possibilities?.

I know you were explaining that you needed 52" from centre to centre to line up/space/distance the 3rd axle in relation to the second axle. You explained that at either the fully raised or fully lowered positions the axle centre would be at it's shortest points of travel with the middle position determining the longest length. When the axle was hanging from a chain or sitting on jack stands/trolley jack how did you come to the conclusion that the axle was already centred in it's axis of travel? Are there positions makers stamped on to the arm and bracketry? Is the spring pre tensioned that the arms will automatically sit at the centre position of travel regardless of the forces put in the assembly whilst being suspended on the jack?

i used an old air bag and shop air to run the axle up and down. i measured it in the different positions. once i found the the radius, i adjusted from there.

lift axles are put in different locations for different purposes. in this situation, keeping a shorter wheel base was the reason. understand that putting it in front of the drive axles could have a similar issue on an incline.
