2005 - 2006 Lincoln Navigator stuck in park fix and overide solution malfuntion in bezel

Many thanks from Montana. My lincoln was stuck in my driveway but this helped me get it moving again. So far I am just using an electrical connector as a block to depress the override. Maybe I’ll get braver tomorrow and dig a little deeper.

Just wanted to add a 5 month update. I use this vehicle on a daily basis and also use it to travel. I have not had one issue since modifying the shifter with the override button pushed in. I do suggest changing out the entire computer board and bezel but for a quick fix this does work.

I am working on this issue right now, is it possible the override button won't work after time? It worked when i flipped it. But then I parked it. Went to start an drive again and didnt move. All in 10mins

Also noted , the lights on the shifter did work. Now after I switched the oveerride they do not.

Peer Built there is also a fuse that controls the shifter. It is possible you tripped the fuse. I originally thought this was my issue but my fuse was good

Thank you for sharing this! My wife’s Nav decided to lock up the shifter in a gas station parking lot an hour from home yesterday. Tire console apart with my Leatherman Wave and got us back on the road! Saved the day!

I can't find anythng with this part number now. I spilt liquids down mine I thiink because tbe manuel overide of driving it in 5th gear I cant it to do it. 6th gear light won't even light up nor will it show not being in overdrive gear on dashboard. Any ideas how to remove this board?

I have an 2005 my shifter button popped out now my shifter won't shift up to park or reverse but it'll go in drive and neutral and the low gears WHAT'S up is it the button my lights work on it that's not my issue. any help will be greatly appreciated.

Found it on Amazon but it’s better to contact the seller directly. I found out later I bought for the wrong year and it would have been cheaper to contact him directly.

I have a 6 spd 2005 navigator with the same problem. The lights only turn off when I drive the SUV for about an hour and once the lights turn off the shifter gets stuck in park. I'll try the electronic cleaner and the override button. Thank you.

So you would need to replace the shifter assembly to fix or try to clean down the computer board. Mine was fried I used this fix for years after. Never ended up changing.

Do you know if the knob can be taken apart, in my case everything works but the chromed button that you push to move the shifter broke inside the knob and it still work but if you pull it it comes out , I'm just wondering if I can take it apart and weld the plastic that broke or replace the knob without havin to take apart there rest , thaks.

That's a tuff one. They do come apart from what I remember but there's a lot of springs so be careful. I'm sure it can be easily fixed.

found out from my mechanic that the solinoid is actuated by your brake light switch. if it wont unlock shifter you also wont have brakelights. $29 at parts store, swaps out without tools in 5 minutes, on top of brake pedal.

Yes that can be true but the computer under the shifter can go bad as in my case. Brake lights still work fine but won't shift. It happens when people spill items like soda into shifter. This is what the old owner did. My computer board was covered in soda. But yes you are correct. I even swapped mine out to be safe and no luck. Thanks for input as all info is education.
