The Peugeot 107 has been part of the automotive landscape for so long, it's a car we almost take for granted. Yet if you're looking for an inexpensive used car, possibly for a first time driver, there's still very little to beat it. The cars we look at here are the facelifted models that served from early 2012 to the car's eventual run-out in 2014. Here's what to look out for when tracking down a used one.
History
Some cars seem to last forever at the top of their class, while others only enjoy a relatively short moment in the sun. That seemed to be the case with the Peugeot 107, a car that was dealt a real double whammy. The 107 was originally launched alongside its sister vehicles the Citroen C1 and the Toyota Aygo back in 2005. At first, all was rosy in Peugeot's garden. The Citroen was the cheapest and was also offered with a diesel engine. The Toyota was the plushest and most adventurously styled. The Peugeot, sitting somewhere in the middle with by far the most limited model line-up looked like it was going to struggle. Yet it managed to sell as many as both the Citroen and Peugeot combined, its value and badge equity seeing it through.
A positive start then, but then came 2008, the Government's scrappage scheme and the huge success of Hyundai's rival i10 citycar in exploiting it. Peugeot didn't maximise the sales opportunities of this situation as well as its Korean competitor - and things got even more difficult in 2011 when the Volkswagen Group unleashed its trio of city cars; the VW Up!, the Seat Mii and the Skoda Citigo. Compared to these rivals, the 107 looked distinctly yesterday's news. With sales tailing off quite badly, Peugeot belatedly acted and refreshed the 107 in 2012, with a more modern front end, more equipment and realigned pricing.

After 40 years of driving big cars, big motorbikes, vans and money pits, I've just bought myself a 107. I asked myself what I want from a car along with what I actually need. The savings I'll make owning a 107 are immense. I won't be able to compete in the traffic light grand prix but that doesn't bother me these days. As for the car itself, I actually love the minimalist interior. It reminds me of what motoring was all about. It has an original Mini vibe about it. Basic instruments are all you get and that's strangely appealing. It has a dodgem-like feel about it and that's good. I also love the fact that it has one windscreen wiper blade that costs a fiver, an oil filter costs 8 quid, and air filter costs 6 quid and on it goes. Despite its lack of performance I feel like I'm moving back to a world of real driving because of the lack of gadgets, gizmos and computer assisted this and that.

I bought one purely for reasons of economy. I was expecting a miserable, slow monotonous driving life from that point onwards. how wrong I was! It's an absolute hoot to drive.

2009 107 is about to be my first car this week. Feel like it’s a car I’ll be using for a good few years at least!

Love the little three cylinder thrum. I owned a Perodua Kelisa with similar engine. It felt more plush and "clad" than the bare metal and firm seats in the "citybug" trio. So many of these about though so a better used buy I expect! thanks for the review.

1krfe engine is legendary reliability and performance totally in different league to psa 1.2 and Ford eco boom rubbish. Very easy diy. Many well over 100k still going strong. Boot leaks common but fixable. Interior a let down imo but one heck reliable economical practical car

My 107 had 116,000+ miles on the clock and it drove like new . Owned it 9 years and it never missed a beat and started first time every time 😁

Make one understeer on a dry public road in front of a police officer without getting arrested or a wet road? And you may get the Ari Vatnen, Vartenen? With “budget tyres”!! Of the year award. The Haynes manual says 800 to 950 kerb weight (tare?)

My only criticism is why wheel bolts instead of studs ? Studs make the wheel easier to align and supports their weight while alining and fitting them? They are not the only vehicles with that design fault!! Hopefully earth movers are designed better. I would think one of their wheels would weigh in excess of 250 kilos?
