Sorry sir, combined family might have emerged for various reasons, just like fighting with other tribes would have helped it emerge, their believes on that tribal god, so on and so forth. As far as the present day combined family (koottu kudumbam) is concerned, it existed not only among agricultural family, but also among other castes like vaishyas, kshtraiyas, etc., who were /are not engaged in agriculture. Hope, you will please make a note of this.
