You mean the Russian Wrestler/Paratrooper Barbell-kettlebell complex.. He learned this complex while he was a Paratrooper in the 101st Airborne. It was a common training complex with I was in the 82nd Airborne and 75th Ranger Regiment 1998 though 2008. The Russian Wrestlers use kettlebell. Alexander Karelin used to do the complex with double 32kg and 36kg kettlebells.

Yes nothing to brag about lost fights by decision and submissions I should of never got caught in. My ammy career was better due to less distractions and more commitment. One thing I can take away from it was that I wasn’t focused and had too many things going on. (Running gyms, coaching and training athletes) Either way ive used that as a reminder to never spread yourself to thin. My coaching career took off because there was nothing else I was trying to focus on. The concept of ALL IN is vital when looking to be the best in your field.

When young I did all this kind of stuff, and I do advocate a very holistic functional type of training...as like Phil said...then an athlete can then cover more moves, sports or styles of fighting. It's true athleticism...the fighters I have thought highly of through the ages, due to my longevity of life-quite a few, Rocky Marciano had great traits, Mike Tyson was unique but similar to Rocky...both short, had to get inside...lot of lateral movement, lot of power...and Rocky had that punch where his feet left the ground-that would make for a full video, forget the name of it... and then Ken Buchanan and Bomber Graham...both British southpaws who counter boxed...made people miss...Bomber used to come round the local mining clubs...a £1 a shot...you could take a swing for him...money went to charity...that would make for a great defence video and maybe a look at the technique and tactics and strategies of a leftie...the latter trained under the Sheffield coach Brendan Ingles...I went once to one of his sessions when he came out to train a local lad who won a world title in kickboxing...from my local town, or village, I think it was before all this MMA stuff...his name was Arthur Loughlan-the fighter...on You Tube...the coach had a few world champions...sadly, Bomber was rarely hit, but when he was...he went down...hence he lost his big fights...Clay and Sugar Ray...real athletes...I seem to recall there was another Sugar too who was meant to be good...these boxers could float but sting as well...brilliant footwork, so light on their feet...dancers. One of the best aggressive fighters I saw was Barry McQuillan-(spelling may be out) N Irish...always on front foot but managed to avoid punches whilst getting lots of his in...those fighters are most of my favourites...so what could be analysed...how to throw that special punch and training for that-Rocky...exs to improve lateral and head movement and how to move forward as make opponent miss as you deliver...exs to improve the feet so they become agile, light and reactive...float like a butterfly...then finally...those counterpunchers-how to make people miss on back foot...and counter...and exs to practise and enhance these techniques...and how could these different styles of boxing be best complemented by another martial art(s)...so suitability of adding one or more disciplines to boxing...and how would you train such a person who already has many strengths...but obvious shortfalls in other respects...and the progression to make a boxer into a MMA fighter...or karate man say...or adding judo or wrestling. Ohh, I forgot to mention McGregor...MMA man...I saw him doing some gym stuff...and he was really good...another all-round athlete who tried his hand at different exs and techniques...including movement flow systems...he's very supple and strong in unusual positions...almost like a gymnast really along with calisthenics...
@nialloneill5097
@nialloneill5097 10 ай бұрын
Yes...I like that idea...pick some of the names out what people like...establish their predominant way of fighting-and go through their actual methods of training with any special exs that enhanced their styles...then decide which couple of other martial arts that they could have done, or improved uypon...and discuss how to progress them by other additional training techniques and exs, and how to then integrate these arts and styles to make them an effective all-rounder...thus looking at their strengths and weaknesses...and how to work with those...I am suer many people have started with one discipline, then had to add on other ones later...Arthur Loughlan told me his hero was Bruce Lee...so he did karate...and added boxing later...so that's one example...

old debate, but is oly lifting really worth it for other sports?
@PhilDaruStrong
@PhilDaruStrong 10 ай бұрын
We really have to just simply think about the risk to reward for each individual athlete. If they can perform it and have the joint pre-requisite mobility to do it then I don’t see it being a problem any more than using the standard big 3 lifts. But again it will depend on the cost of time to teach it and what is the true reason behind it. And for athletes it’s to create a stimulus adaptation to improving power. Which can be done in multiple ways.

Gsp stopped doing oly lifts at some point , I presume it is because it is pretty much pointless to progres in oly lifts when u do 5x5 of mma sparring , better to do sport specific stuff , with various different vectors of force production. Then after all of those years he mostly does gymnastics and sprints , with some kneesovertoes sled drags 😅
