Yes, Charles, but you should have given credit where credit was due (Antony Irvine - who commented below - gave YOU credit and praise for this famous quote). Just to set the record strait, the great German philosopher, critic, poet and philologist Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900) knew a thing or two about music; he was also an amateur composer! He also authored the famous quotes: "That which does not kill us makes us stronger," and "Our greatest experiences are our quietest moments," and "Those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music.” In passing, Nietzsche also wrote the philisophacal novel Thus Spoke Zarathustra, which inspired Richard Strauss to write the famous orchestral Tone Poem of the same name (made even more famous when it was used in the 1968 film "2001 A Space Odyssey).

@jonhannington-holley92928 жыл бұрын
It has been said many times that music evokes feelings that go beyond our capacity to describe in words, and I count myself blessed to find quite often, with good music, well performed, that some neurons deep in my brain find the experience extremely pleasurable and somehow transcendental. I can perfectly understand how a performer may find similar emotional experiences may affect their facial expression and demeanour. Offensive remarks about 'dumbass fake expressions' merely reveal the lack of sensitivity and rudeness of the commentator. It is perhaps just as well he was not present at the concert. He would probably cough repeatedly, rustle a newspaper, and spill popcorn all over the place. It is cheap to make offensive remarks at the expense of the performer, and Anna Fedorova, and her magnificent performances, full of expression and delicacy, deserve better. If you don't like it, just sit at home with a CD and spam the internet with your unappreciation. No-one will thank you. I was very fortunate to attend several concerts at the Concertgebouw a few years ago, and found them extremely enjoyable and memorable. I so wish I had been able to wander in off the streets (as the audience apparently did for this 'surprise concert'), and be gifted an experience like Anna Fedorova's wonderful concert in this video. Maybe next time I'm in Amsterdam...? She is like a breath of fresh air, and for me (and others, I feel sure), she adds expression and sensitivity that many more 'mechanical' pianists somehow miss. Bravo... and more, please!

At least far above the dutch level. The government has no money for music.
@marat36322 жыл бұрын
@@maartenvanderlek8955I feel that is an unfair statements towards both Anna and Dutch government. I have a friend studying at conservatorium and you have no idea how much the Dutch government is helping Dutch violinist compared to other countries. Which county lends student a 100K violin, free tuition, free transportation and plus allowance? Ukraine (where Anna is from), or Russia (where most gifted musicians come from)??. In my opinion(that might be wrong) I think Dutch government helps a lot. I am from eastern Europe too and I used to be a pianist until the age of 11. The level in Eastern Europe is different. I used to play from 7AM until 1, lunch break, 2PM till 5PM, then I did school work till 9PM , 9- 11 again piano, 11time is sleep. Wake up, and repeat. Btw, i dropped out after the age of 11 because I was not working hard enough/ was not good enough. :) I am sorry , but i dont see any Dutch students doing the same. Even best students at CvA dont work that hard. I think it is great that Dutch children are not subjected to same harsh regime as some students from other countries. It is just a different culture that values different things. Anna worked very hard and she probably did not get a cent from Ukrainian government , who definitely has no money for music.

It's truly miraculous that a pianist with such a profound affinity for the high romantic drama of Chopin and Rachmaninoff can be so mesmerisingly magical in playing Mozart. But the epic kinetic energy she unleashes in the Rachmaninoff is breathtaking. She has an extraordinary capacity for "tightening the spring" and letting it rip then tightening it again. Her control of the architectural movement is what makes her one of the greatest musicians of her generation.

Totally convinced that women are better pianists than men going back over 75 years. Imagine that, a man born in 1876 through 1962.
