Some advice, Kevin. Turn the key and let the dash screen do its thing, and the proper lights like the engine light go off before starting the truck. These new dashes are annoying, but it will help not having issues with the truck, not thinking there's actually a problem.

Where I worked they had 2 receiving docks, one for castings only and the other one for everything else. Some of the truckers knew where to go. The ones that didn't know never bothered to come in and ask. So most could drive okay but not back in very good. Sometimes we would watch them and it was fun to watch. One guy bringing in a container got out to open his doors with his small child standing in a bad place, the load had shifted and out came these huge cast iron pieces. They were lucky they didn't hit them. It would probably have killed one of them. We use to load out large thick walled pipe and I guessing the driver was standing too close to his trailer when the forklift driver lost his load and the pipe came off the trailer striking him and it killed him. It wasn't at our plant. Most flat bed driver's would park, remove their straps and get back in the cab out of harms way

Kevin, do you do a walk through on the inside of your empty trailers? Looking for damage or possibly showing signs of water leaks? Possible chemical spills?

Not unless he sees it from the doors. If there’s a hole in the roof you can usually see the light shining in.

You would have to be very careful about " Drop Off's" If you hit a drop off by any chance can cause your vehicle to tilt". And it's the same if your land gear got caught up on the railroad tracs a get hung up. Can be a bit dangerous

Whenever I pick up a new trailer lately, I’ve been trying to remember to do the whole pre-trip and then pull the truck up like 2 feet to make sure there’s not any ball spots on the other side of the tires. I’ve had a couple trailers recently with bald spots on them, so I’ve been double checking a lot more you know how it is though do you never know it’s always better to double check I guess

@IanDermott-yb3hv That’s a BIG problem in trucking because there’s often no parking available. That’s why some drivers get very ‘creative’ with parking solutions. In the end the DOT doesn’t care as to the why. It’s an HOS violation. That’s why trip planning is soooooo important. Leave enough time near end of day. Have several possibilities in mind. Kevin starts early in the day to have better options, though that’s not always possible. At Crete there are also terminals to fall back on if they are en route.
