Last set of each exercise to failure seems like a good balance

I do last set to failure too and 1 rep in Reserve the sets before. When i can do 2 reps more in the last set, i know i can add 1 rep in the first two sets or add weight. Very objective way to train close to failure

so just train to failure all the time, because most ppl misjudge their own 'real failure', so by training to failure will just mean we are in fact training 'close to failure'

@@percy.garou1001 what i meant is that if 'people misjudge their real failure', then training to what you perceived as failure just means you are training 'close to failure'. And there been a lot of study that training close to failure is optimal. So if you think you are training to failure, it means you are probably training close to failure (which is optimal)

I'd say train to absolute failure for isolation exercises. You're not gonna be fatigued from going to failure on preacher curls and it can give you a good gauge on what failure feels like. If going to failure on every set of biceps makes you too sore for you next bicep session you can dial it back (maybe only go to failure the last 2 sets). Everyone has a different intensity that works for them. For compound movements leave 1-2 reps in the tank and go to failure on the last set.

I have discovered that failure by exhaustion is a serious consideration when living at altitude. My 12-15 reps per set would literally drain the energy out of me when lifting with the weights equivalent to my one rep max. Exercising to failure of specific muscles seems to be the context of lifting until failure, but having "no gas in the tank" near the end of the set is completely different. I understand why people train at altitude, if possible, as the body normally attempts to adapt to the lower amount of oxygen per breath over time. The benefits are apparent when moving at a lower altitude, e.g. running up a few flights of stairs in Denver without trying to catch your breath is a welcomed surprise. I have compassion for people who ski in Colorado and need to stop after a couple hundred yards to catch their breath.

I think an important piece is that failure is going to feel different to every individual and the rep ranges that the person prefers to hit failure. I have a low rep failure weight range. I have a medium rep failure weight range and they have a high rep failure rep range and I usually train in one rep range per quarter. But lately I've been doing one rep range. One day. Another rep range another day. I am not sure if this will yield better results but I'm curious

Is failure to train any kind of effective too?
@moneyhafimek20 күн бұрын
This is why I train with light weight and high volume because it’s safer to train to or close to failure. Too heavy and failure happens too quick leaving me unfulfilled . Moderately heavy and joints may hurt preventing consistency. Light weight + high reps(20 or more) or high sets (5 or more) + full range and moderate concentric and eccentric is the best way for me. Do your own thing though because I’m 45 and natural only taking 1 protein shake per day and no creatine. When I was younger I could do whatever I wanted.😂
@donmerrigan236217 күн бұрын
It can also harder to actually hit true failure that way. But it can be just as effective if done properly.

Today I learned you’re not actually a triangle man. No for real tho this is solid new advice - I tried to be a bodybuilder so I paid money for a coach. Thought I wasted my money when I couldn’t commit to it financially (that and the drugs) but one thing I did learn and felt was training to failure. Got reps out like I’ve never done before and even was able to rep out weights I used to think I couldn’t do - because I thought 35lbs for laterals was too heavy so there’s no point going above 30lbs.

What kind of failure do you mean? Like, failing at a bench press alone (no safety pins) might be different with failing at a bench press with a spotter.
