My god , what a saint Apollo was, herd instinct tells a horse to follow them bolting horses, the fact he didnt do that was great, but on top of that he was so good as he waited for the horses to come back. So many horses would of played up, but all he done was call for them a couple of times . He really was amazing i was so impressed with Apollo . Fair play to the girls for getting back on and carrying on especially the injured one. This is something that can happen to anyone and a bolting horse is extremely frightening and hard to stay on . Im glad your all safe and sound but a big shout out for Apollo he was such a amazingly good boy to wait so calmly like he did and well done to you too Tara you was so calm yourself you handled it so well . Well done all xx

Yeah, I did that and got bucked off immediately, and hurt bad enough that I couldn't get back on for months. It's not always the answer. I see a lot of factors in this event that add up to wrecks waiting to happen. Fresh horses in wind... Good times...lol!

Your friend who fell off is extremely lucky that she didn't get trampled - being on a bolting horse is scary on it's own, but almost getting trampled by both your own horse plus another horse coming charging past must be absolutely terrifying 😬. It was good of your other friend (Kirsty I think you said her name was?) to warn you as her horse was coming past, too - that cheeky charger from a couple months back could learn a thing or two from that.

A bolting horse threw me into a house, then landed on the ground and splintered the bone above my left elbow and cracked my wrist in two places. Over 16 years since the accident and I still have fear/anxiety around horses. Bless Apollo for being such a good boy and keeping you safe ❤️

I was extremely fortunate that I ended up with just the broken arm and wrist, I wasn't wearing a helmet and I was in sneakers - it could have gone much worse than it did. I haven't had great experiences with Arabians - the ones I've met are spooky and nippy, would not want to ride one.

I beg you to please try and ride again. I had a terrible accident where a horse bolted, and I fell and hit my head. I was hospitalized with a concussion and permanently straightened vertebrae in my neck. I was so terrified to canter for so long. For three years I didn’t go near another horse. Now, I’m a horse wrangler, and ride full on gallops with glee. It’s exhilarating, and I know it’s risky, but to get back on and get over that mental hurdle is one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done

@@a.m.2066 There are plenty of well-behaved and well-trained Arabians of sound mind. We used to have one and once you showed him you were boss and that you were not going to be intimidated he was such a joy to ride. Excellent gaits and so willing to move with the slightest touch he would respond. A sporty flea-bitten Arabian that was just like driving a Corvette. So much fun! However, with his street-smarts you could definitely not put a beginner on him because he would take full advantage of the situation.

Arabians are bred for heat and endurance along with wonderful gaits for a delightful ride. A horse will never step on another animal or human being unless they are loco in the head.

You horse ladies are a hardy breed, I take my hat off to you, you didn’t just get back on to get home which is very courageous in itself, you then chose to carry on with the ride, now that’s hardcore 🥰 Apollo was outstanding during the emergency, pleased yes, but I’d say downright as proud as can be of his beautiful behaviour, if he really decided to go I doubt there would have been anything you could do except hang on. But once again he proved how special and trustworthy he is.

It has to be a working relationship that you build with proper steps. You really cannot control an animal so large and Powerful. Nor should you want to. Definitely 🩵 My first fall happend because of a bolt..He did a sudden halt half way down the arena no clue why because he wasn’t near my instructor or other horses but I went flying over his head then landed with the back of my head first! Took over half a year to get over my fear and I’m still scared of the horse it happened on with more bad experiences on him. This happened at the riding school I go to, Happened 2022 December and then took me up to September before this fear was gone. He’s sold now and am living life on the mares and haven’t ridden a stallion or gelding in ages!

Please always wear a helmet!! Head injury= brain damage. When I first owned my ex-racehorse I was walking on the ground next to him. He swung his head around & hit the side of my head. I woke up on the ground, him pushing me to get up. No helmet. That & other head injuries eventually gave me Dementia.

@@amalia3843 I agree. Talking to them is a fantastic communication. The calming sound of her and Ren's voices create a connection even if their horses don't understand all of the words. Yes, they understand many, but mostly the calm assurances they need to build trust. I talk to all of my critters all of the time. People think I'm nuts. That's their problem. So talk to yours!

Yeah, you can see he really wants to go but he always wants to listen to his owner. Such a good boy to listen and not act on his instinct. Mine can do that in the field when the naughty buggar next door sneaks through the fence and starts running around his field, I tell him to not react and he stays with me while I try to get the other horse out. Unfortunately my boy is very sensitive to sound being an Arab he's quite a worrier also, so if I don't have his soundproof ears on,he's probably going to spook if he hears something outside the arena (we have an indoor)

My first fall at 10 years old was off a horse in a riding ring - i was cantering, went through the first bend, and he just kicked it into overdrive and bolted through the next turn (kind of like a barrel racing sprint) - being a young rider, I just froze up and pulled back on the reins then bounced out of my stirrups and went over sideways, landed flat on my back and whacked my head - knocked the wind out of me, and I was pretty traumatized/upset, but otherwise uninjured thanks to the helmet! I was a baby and didnt get back on, didnt help that my Mom watched it happen and came running to get me in the car and go home. BUT I did come back the next week, and the next, and ended up riding + competing locally for another 7 years! Took a long break from riding to do college/work stuff but I miss riding!

I've lost a stirrup on a bolting horse and you have to really hold on for dear life. Kudos to your friend for not just holding on but getting that stirrup back, that's hard to do! The horse I was on was running along a fence and of course the stirrup I lost was that side. Really thought he was gonna scrape me off on that fence! To this day I can't believe I didn't come off.

I’ve watched it again. It demonstrates how quickly a calm situation can change and so how vital it is to wear a hat. The relationship you nurture with all your horses came into its own. Apollo badly wanted to join in but stayed with you and was a rock. But that was very frightening for all of you and great respect to the girl who came off.

I was riding and a car with no muffler drove by, honked, and the guys screamed out at us. My horse bolted, I fell, broke six ribs, fractured my skull, punctured a lung, lacerated a kidney, broke my collar bone. Insurance companies rate horseback riding as more dangerous than riding a motorcycle. But I continued riding until I was in my 70s and other health problems made me stop. Horses are magnificent.

If you don't get back on, it can be something you build up more anxiety about. Or at least that's the horseriding theory. I know I hated being bundled back onto a horse who had just thrown me and would have appreciated some time to compose myself first.

I had a bolting horse too twice in a week when I was 11. Luckily I didn't fall neither of those times but the first I thought it was my end as we were approaching a crossroads with loads of trucks passing by. Luckily my mates stopped the horse. I kept on riding until I was 18 nevertheless and fell many other times but I was extremely fortunate to never get a single injury. Now that I'm quite older I'm much more aware of everything that can go wrong. Past year I began riding again after 14 years of not being on top of a horse. Fell off twice again unscathed. I love horses to my core but can't help but think every time I do I'm buying an unfortunate lottery at some point I'm meant to win 😅

So relieved to see Kirsty was ok AND with the 2 horses! I noticed Kirsty's good posture when her horse took off, she was very upright, probably her experience.. Same here for me! 🤦‍♀️We were at Estes Park, Colorado on Vacation and I was on a huge horse during a family trail ride and I wasn’t but 10yrs or less but he decided to turn around and bolt back home to the barn stables and I FREAKED OUT SCREAMING all the way back! My boy has no mane to hold, he's rubbed it all out 🤣 I just had to clamp with my knees and pull as hard as I could to get him back today, I was not coming off today. I have dodgy knees so it hurts to hold them off the saddle as you're meant to so he's used to me gripping with them,though my grip suddenly turned into a vice and he knew he was in trouble 🤣 luckily we were inside and it was only about 15-20m he bolted but he's an Arab, so it was a very fast 15-20m 🤣

Very brave of the girls to get back on and continue......it was certainly the right thing to do. Obviously the horses weren't injured so continuing would help to calm them down. Well done Apollo, such a credit to you Tara. Sometimes all the effort & discipline in the world can't stop a bolting horse. These beautiful animals are strong, stronger than us & when determined to take off, they completely overpower any sense of communication & our desperate attempts to hold them back. Its especially hard when in a group & they follow each others will to bolt off with that herd mentality, some say try to turn them in a circular motion but its easier said than done, especially when on a bridle track with windy surroundings. I've had a few bolt offs & it can be pretty scary. Apollo was amazing ❤

Equally impressed with your calm demeanor which assisted in Apollo checkin in and looking to you for direction . Exactly what you have worked toward as a side goal while training. It all pays off Tara. Again though your calm and confident manner have really helped shape and cement this as a herd leader of sorts. The key things I feel let’s a horse rider/ owner relationship down is m: lack of time spent with them in general. Stable temperament and calmness of mind breath and heart as well as a respectful trust.. By default, this means that no matter what is unfolding you don’t get emotional therefore you don’t yell scream and get animated, further solidifying the trust that they should look to you for the next move and go with it. Kudos to to you Tara.

You can never be quite as prepared at that moment as you hope you will be. Those darn Saber-tooth bushes and wind-blown booger beasts are always waiting around the next bend in the trail. Good Job Team Apollo and a pint for everyone ! Toss a blanket over the pony, check for booboos and grab the icepacks for the rider. I'm sure those bruises will be obvious in a few hours.

My first time in this site, Apollo was absolutely amazing to remain after two horses bolted past him! Unbelievable! And then he called them back! A brilliant horse that really proved his trust in u! Then for the injured lady to remount immediately after that terrifying experience was true courage. Both of them were very brave to ride back after that , thank u for sharing this with us!

Somethings amiss in many comments. Of course Appollo did extremely well. But here was a learning experience. Was it the horse's bit, the pigs or the rider starting to gallop? Why did the 2nd horse take off dangerously past calm Apollo as well? We praise Tara's horses all the time. Well deserved. For observers, what happened here with these advanced riders? I came off a horse during a thunderstorm when I was 12. Unfortunately, I ended up in the hospital for a couple of days with a concussion. And the knee jerk reaction was to keep me away from horses. Tara, your calm, soothing voice with such positive instruction would have, I am certain, brought me back to horses much sooner! I love watching your videos; they are so relaxing! Husband was with friends at a riding stable. He mounted his horse and the horse reared up and took off at a gallop down a path with trees on either side and some small branches overhead. He just hung on for dear life. The horse turned and galloped back to the stables with nothing hurt but my husband's pride. He doesn't ever forget that, though.

No one mentions what might have spooked poppy n the first place. I guess Fresians r not quite so mellow and calm after all. I know thry have tiny brains, and instintive reactions, but horses who grow up n the wild, (as n mustangs) might flinch, shy sideways ,or leap forward , r less likely to fullon bolt, i discovered, once , u gain their trust. Also it seemed safer to me to put poppy in the middle between the 2 calmer horses, after she bolted, instead of in the lead! Glad all horses and people, safe!

It always cracks me up when in the movies when a character that is not experienced can just hold on to a horse that bolts and is in a full run.lol it’s not easy it takes skill. Horses can be so unpredictable it’s very rare when you can let your guard down. She fell really well luckily it was on soft dirt and grass. Glad she is ok and gets back on! Many years ago, when I was still a very unexperienced rider, my horse got spooked by a guy coming around the corner. And my horse bolted in a full run, while kicking its back legs in the air. But I did not fall off the horse. I held on, until the horse calmed down. And my teacher, who was seeing the whole thing was very impressed that I stayed on the horse, as it looked like a rodeo. And I've seen another of my class mates ride another horse, that took off as well. But she fell off the horse. Fortunately she wasn't injured.

@@thewildbruce5612 I always found it interesting that the first thing every single one of my trainers did was insure that their students knew how to do an emergency dismount, landing on their feet unhurt with reins still in hand, and I did the same for the years I was training riders. I've always been surprised at how few current riders know how to do it.

If I still rode it wouldn't be without a bit. I'm thinking now. There was one time a horse I was on just bolted and I couldn't stop him. He bit the bit they said. He eventually stopped when we came near a highway. It was scary. This video brought that day back to me. 🐴🐴🐴❤️

I'm so glad she's okay. I was riding my friend's stallion bareback on a dirt road on her property when I got the bright idea to see how fast he could go. One little nudge from me and he was GONE!!! He took me through an apple orchard and I had to lean sideways, clinging for dear life to his mane with only one leg hitched over his lower neck. It was one of the most terrifyingly, yet exhilarating experiences I've ever had. Only after I got him to stop and slithered off, did the reality sink in of how close I came to a broken neck.

Such invested trust Apollo had in his rider listening to voice commands waiting to be instructed on what to do next in a sudden unexpected crisis. I loved how he remained focused and alert processing what the other two horses were doing and how they were acting and instead of joining in he clicked on critical thinking skills and used it to call back the other horse that took off without rider. The very fact he pitched in to call back the horses that bolted off - that is just outstanding and remarkable of him and he did all that while still keeping a sturdy ear and eye on his rider ready for commands. what a one of a kind gem you have there! i will admit i am a bit jealous lol

I had a quarter horse when I was about 12 years old. She bolted on me many times. In fact, she bolted one time when the neighbor boy who worked for the barn to take care of the horses went to get her in the field. He only had a halter (first mistake), she took off so fast and ran into a tree and knocked herself out for a bit. Out of all the horses I've ever ridden in my life she was the absolute worst for disposition.
