Time to try out my newest circuit board holder by building a couple of simple kits.
Just for fun, I did 2 edits of this video.
This is the shorter one.
The long one (46 min) is here: • The best PCB holder so...
It features more of the soldering action at real-time speed.

This isn't the only way to do it.
It's probably not the best way to do it.
But it's how I do it.

That is close to winner. The best one I've ever seen had a pad with foam on the component side. You could populate all you components, put the "top" with a foam on it and turn it over. Cut all the leads (that need no bending) and solder everything. Oh, and with hot air all plastic jaws are in danger. I find stuff like panavice and similar too high ergonomically. I like using table to support arms and working much above table is not that comfortable. I really love one-sided smd boars for that. Put it on the table (or very near) and working with it is so comfortable.

Nice jig - I use one myself but the price I paid was £3.99 from CPC here in Blighty. Bad luck for having to pay so much but it's worth it, I promise you!

Several people have said that it's available for a lot less, and all paid for theirs in £ rather than $$CDN.That's unexpected, as I spent quite a bit of time searching e-bay, always filtering for least expensive. I'm not too bothered. This thing seems to be worth the money.The next step up in quality moves into more industrial devices, with much more industrial level pricing.

@@pileofstuff Yeah,I agree with you. The problem for build a new board by using this is hard to lign all components and get a perfect pin appearance.

Does MG Chemical make their own solder? I doubt it. Likely just relabelled.
@pileofstuff
@pileofstuff 5 жыл бұрын
Quite possible. MG is a Canadian company, and it is prominently labelled "made in the USA", so that limits the number of possible manufacturers, if it is just a re-labelled product.

@@pileofstuff You'll find they are generally based out of the UK since their pronunciation differs from the US. Personally I have never come across any English words with silent "L"'s unless they are directly followed by a few very specific letters like "K" or "M" or "D".
@EricYTP
@EricYTP 2 ай бұрын
"The silent "l" in solder ("a metal or metallic alloy used when melted to join metallic surfaces") isn’t completely exotic: other, more common words like salmon, calm, walk, should, and calf also typically have one. But since solder is encountered less frequently than these (and is perhaps spoken more frequently than it is written), it’s a tricky one. The "l" wasn't always there: up until the 1500s, most spellings of solder didn't include it. But its Latin ancestor is solidare, "to make solid," which seems to have been used to justify adding the "l" in."
