Thank you for your video, I picked up the full fat version of this headset yesterday secondhand for a really good price as i also wanted eye tracking to take advantage of Foliated Rendering. Caveat- i only use PCVR for sim racing when i want total immersion. My sim rig is hooked up to 4090 + 7800x3D with a 57 inch Double 4K (7680x2160) ultra wide display. For PCVR, I had low expectations after owning a HTC Vive Elite XR, Quest 3 and PSVR2 on ps5, none of these are good enough for Sim Racing, just too many compromises. It took me 45mins to install and dial everything in and once up and running, my jaw dropped when I fired up ACC and Auromobilista 2. I finally realised where PCVR is heading for sim racing - road to 90% realism. I am glad the newer light version of this headset is now cheaper so more people can experience this. The clarity is soooooo much better than my previous headsets (HTC vive Elite XR, Quest 3) and I am possibly one of the worst offenders who chases frames and ultra high res graphics. I know newer or upcoming PCVR headsets are going above 5760x2880 with an even bigger FOV, no idea how people are going to drive those headsets., 5090 better be a beast. This headset kills my 4090 as there so much to render. so your PC rig matters and you either need to use upscaling (DLSS or FSR) or compromise on graphics quality). Battery issue that everyone complains about, i followed an advice from YT who suggested to plug a USB cable into a fast charge adapter and connect it to the hidden usb c port above the left lens, it works, my battery hasn’t drained at all after a 3hr session and still with 5 bars. I think the new Pimax Crystal Light will be a great purchase as long as you have the right PC setup and know your way around settings in Pimax Play. I will try Open Composite / XR next.
@VRManCave5 ай бұрын
I could not agree more with every single word. I actually didn't know you could plug in the Crystal to sort out the battery issue, but now that I have the Light, I get everything the Crystal could offer besides the dynamic foveated rendering, which I wasn't really using that much anyway.

Thank you for your review. I'm always wondering when people say they use local dimming in a balanced mode. Is it even noticeable then? I have heard that the implementation of Pimax local dimming is weak compared to professional monitors or OLED. Besides immersion, does this bring negative visibility to night races when using local dimming?
@VRManCave5 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! Yes Local Dimming Balanced vs. Off is very noticeable. And yes you're right, you can't compare a tiny QLED display to what can be achieved on a 55" or bigger OLED. Local dimming basically allows for better blending of dark areas and light areas, so yes, when racing at night it's a very welcome addition since there will be headlights, tail lights and other lit parts, but there should also be almost pitch black parts, including inside the actual car.

I recieved my crystal light 5 days ago but I'm seriously leaning towards returning it due to tracking issues. Also instrument gages in MSFS2020 are blurry to the point of being illegible which makes unusable to me.
@VRManCaveАй бұрын
I'm honestly surprised to hear both your remarks. I've had no tracking issues at all to this day, and there's zero chance of it being blurry, it's the crispest headset I've ever tried. Maybe you're not wearing it right? Aspheric lenses tend to require you to wear the headset higher than you'd normally think you do. Otherwise, there might just be something wrong with the hardware, but none of those two issues should be happening.

It's funny how none of the people I've seen doing Crystal Light reviews mentions the actual price will include VAT etc - and in my own case (local dimming + Lighthouse faceplate) ends up being just $14 (£11) less than my full Index - which everyone considered an "expensive" headset. This headset isn't as cheap as everyone seems to make out - though it's a good price for what it is. *PS - would have been helpful if you had told us with text etc which games you were in while showing us them ;-) I didn't recognise a couple that looked interesting.
@VRManCave5 ай бұрын
It’s probably because most viewers are in the US, where tax not being included is the norm. I don’t think it’s fair to compare this to a 5 year old headset that has had the same price since launch. The Index was expensive back then, but nowadays it’s just a bad choice for anyone since you can get A LOT more for that price. That’s a great idea about having an overlay with the game’s name, thanks, I’ll take that on board for future vids. The games featured in this video were Half Life Alyx, Kayak Mirage, Air Car, Assetto Corsa and Automobilista 2.

The Index display is rubbish even compared to the Reverb G2, let alone the Crystal. $700-$800 U.S. for the Crystal Light is a steal. Don’t blame Pimax for your countries sky high taxes. Also, inside out tracking is far better and less cumbersome for racing and flight sim users. We simply don’t need all those sensors and extra nonsense. @VRManCave5 ай бұрын
I have not personally tried the XR-4, I only own the Varjo Aero as a point of comparison. For me, the Crystal Light is the absolute best image I've ever experience in VR. Also I'd say comparing a sub $1K headset like the Crystal Light to the $4K+ Varjo XR-4, which is not even meant for gaming, is not really a fair comparison. With the $3K difference in price you could get a really nice PC, or a Sim Racing or Flight Sim rig that would be incredible if you already have a 4090-powered PC. Regardless, I don't think the XR-4 is worth the pricetag for home use.

Worked perfect for a while but the latest update has stopped tracking working with the base station. I work in IT and have tried every single suggested fix under the sun with no luck. Considering moving to HTC or Meta that don't have the software issues but sucks as the Pimax is so good when it works

Headset tracking is great with the inside out tracking, but no inside out tracking on earth is as accurate as base-stations. Also, base stations allow you to use Index controllers, which a lot of people prefer as they can't be ocluded by you having your hands behind your back, etc. Also, you can use it in complete darkness with base stations. So the short answer is, for ultima accuracy and/or use in pitch darkness, you would use the lighthouse faceplate. Otherwise for most people, inside out is absolutely fine.

Is this a pre-production unit or did you take screen shots of the OG Crystal for showing off the lenses, the "Light" shouldn't have the screw at the top of the lenses since they are not interchangeable. Just curious, I have a Light on order, looks like late August for me (ordered May 31), gonna be a long wait! LOL
@VRManCave5 ай бұрын
All the footage in the video is of the Crystal Light, except for those few seconds where I show the headphones mine came with, the non-DMAS ones, which I’ve switched between them so for that bit I recorded the OG Crystal, but otherwise everything else I’ve shown is from the new Crystal Light. I just had another look at it and it does have that screw. Not entirely sure to be honest what having or not having that screw has to do with the interchangeable lenses. Most of the Crystal Light is still the old Crystal with some stuff taken out or slightly changed.

@VRManCave5 ай бұрын
I unfortunately don’t own the G2, but from everything I’ve read and watched, the sweet spot on the G2 is pretty small. On the Crystal Light it’s huge and from reading specs on the G2 online it seems the FOV is also considerably larger.

Honestly it's the closest thing to OLED that isn't OLED. I have recently received mine. I am blown away by the clarity and the colors BUT I have an issue that I wanted to ask if anyone else has noticed. Compared to the Reverb G2 -the Pimax feels like it is a lot more distorted and "flatter" when looking at distances. In the reverb G2 I can accurately estimate the dimensions of a box for example, and the virtual world feels like it's measuring up to how I see it for real. With the Pimax however, everything looks flat further away than 5 meters and even though I can make out the depth -it doesn't feel nowhere near as realistic as the reverb G2 in that regard... that is my ONLY complaint about the headset and I wonder if someone else has had that experience. I am in two minds wether I should keep it or not as this really takes the immersion out for me. I have tried adjusting the IPD on the headset as well as shifted it around in the software.

@VRManCave3 ай бұрын
First off, definitely get this and not the Index. It’s not a great idea to buy a 5-year old headset nowadays. Secondly, the Crystal Light has inside out tracking and controllers, so you don’t need base stations unless you really really want Index controllers, which indeed are known to break fairly easily, but Valve is usually good with warranty claims. The only VR headset I own is the original Pimax and the software was a pain to work with... and required both that and SteamVR running. And that was while I was still on Windows. Thanks!

Well that didn’t last long. PC support for PS VR2 has given us the wide FOV OLED PC has needed for years.
@VRManCave3 ай бұрын
I have both and the clarity is still nowhere near the Crystal Light, but you’re right, the PSVR2 on PC has become a great option as well.
@Chief_Sitz_On_Bowl_TNSAGDWGCat3 ай бұрын
@@VRManCave Clarity past a certain point is way lower on the list than color accuracy and contrast and a reasonable FOV. Unfortunately Steam VR doesn’t support HDR because in the current crop of headsets nothing visually does more for immersion than HDR OLED. SDR OLED is still a big difference though.

Hi, Just used your link to order one. I have a rtx3080 but my CPU is older 3000 series of AMD, what CPU do you recommend for flight sim with this headset? Thanks for the video.
@VRManCave12 күн бұрын
That's awesome, thanks so much for the support! With a 3080 you'd have to pair it with at least a Ryzen 5800x, but it really depends on your budget. The GPU will be the main thing driving PC VR games, but ensuring you don't bottleneck it with a sub-par CPU is really important too. I have a PC with a 5800x and one with a 7950x3D and both run awesome for VR.

I have zero issues running VR on my Ryzen 3600, if you're staying on AM4 I'd say go for an X3D ryzen cpu.

@@blunderingfool Thank you, I did realize that my CPU was doing fine and it was my 3080 that was maxing out based on the task manager. Probably need a better GPU I guess.

Congrats for getting it. It truly is a stunning VR experience in it, isn’t it? And while you can use it even with older cards, the better your PC spec, the more you’ll get out of it!

It’s called AirCar, free on Steam. There’s not much to it but the graphics are absolutely stunning so I always use it to test new headsets.

Well with the extra money spent on eye tracking, you could just get a better graphics card and not need it, but I see your point.

The original Crystal can go up to 160Hz, so I assume they will be able to enable that in software on the Crystal Light too at some point.

Got my 2 days ago. The first 2 hours i was thinking 2 send it back after using the quest 3 for 5 monthes . But after tweaking for 1 day and looking for settings online i finaly got the view i wanted on a vr headset. But if i want to max out the game i need a 5090ti 😂
@VRManCave5 ай бұрын
Hahaha believe me I’m already looking for ways to afford a 5090 when it comes out for this exact same reason. The Crystal Light is fantastic and I’m happy it’s futureproof, but right now on my 4090 I can only do 90Hz max graphics reliably, so being able to maintain the resolution and game settings on full and going to 120hz will be incredible!

Hahahaha why comparing the quest 3 with the bobovr strap and not without for the weight ? 515gr vs 900gr looked to bad? 😂😂😂
@VRManCave5 ай бұрын
The answer is quite simple, and two fold. First, the Quest 3 comes with a stock strap that's worse than a pair of women's underwear for keeping it stable on your head. Secondly, if I compared the weight of the Quest 3 alone, then it would only be fair to deduct the weight of the headstrap and headphones from the Crystal Light, wouldn't it? Finally, to give you the simplest possible answer, I was just comparing my personal favorite Quest 3 setup with the Pimax. P.S. If you use the Quest 3 with the stock strap, then hats off to you sir, you're a very rare breed.
@yannwymann87965 ай бұрын
indeed I use it with stock strap like the quest 1 and 2. I think I have a head like a female butt.

If you have a AMD GPU, Pimax is not for you. It is bad enough that I ordered this in May and it just arrived 3 days ago. In the three days I have had the Pimax Crystal Light, I have not been able to get my computer (Ryzen 7900X3D, Radeon 7900 GRE) to recognize it and start it up. I have left 2 tickets with Pimax support and I have received 2 notifications that no one is at their desk. No one is on Discord for Pimax. No one answers Pimax chat except to tell you to leave a ticket. This product and it's creating company are far below acceptable.

@@mikelintner9043 I’ve talked to a ton of people that have it and it’s working absolutely fine on AMD GPUs as well. If you haven’t already, check that it’s plugged into the right DP and USB ports because there shouldn’t be any incompatibility with AMD GPUs.
@mikelintner90433 ай бұрын
@@VRManCave I have one DP port directly from the motherboard I never use. I have 2 DP ports on the GPU and I have tried them both. I have about 11 USN ports on the motherboard. I have tried many of those. I don't think the 7900GRE is supported. Pimax doesn't list what is/is not compatable. Lastly, you answered me. Pimax still hasn't answered me.
