This oddly feels like one of the most authentic "DOOM Engine" games you can get. This pirate theme feels authentically 90's!

Darch did a fantastic job with both Pirate Doom wads! Easily one of the best mods for 2024 so far!

Nice. I didn't know about this. Did you hear about The golden Souls or Total Chaos or the RAMP Decawads?
@chrismasterzer02 ай бұрын
No, I'll have to check them out.

The RAMP wads are a phenomenon! The project leader is one of the most influential Doom mappers, mr. David X Newton. When I started mapping for Doom, I watched some videos of him creating a map from scratch to a community project. He is one of my 3 gurus in Doom mapping (the other 2 are Lazygamer and the classic Chubzdoomer). RAMP project has its 4th version in 2024. I thought in mapping for it last year, and this year again, but the rule of having only the month on June to create and published a map made Impossible to me. Currently I am involved into 3 projects: one I have "adopted" as project leader (the project creator basically moved the leadership to me because I was the most active mapper and he by any reason was not able to get involved on his own project), plus 2 other community projects. But what is amazing in RAMP is that they usually have more than 200 maps from different people! It is a nice window even for newcomers having their job evaluated. And, in spite the fact David recommends mapping in UDMF format (the most complete one, and the one I like the most), all Doom map formats are acceptable (Doom, Doom II, Boom, MBF, MBF21 or UDMF). So the wad has maps that are merely Doom 2 PoC maps, of people trying to learn, until incredible decorated UDMF maps. RAMP is not a consistent gameplay experience, but it is, for sure, a very nice initiative because everyone is welcome. Maybe next year I will submit a map. But before I need my community project (we have 20 of 32 maps ready so far) is released! It is incredible how passionate the Doom community is! Pirate Doom is just one example among hundreds of awesome projects!

@@felipeh.p.rodrigues5015 And RAMP 2024 has 311 maps. last year was already a record breaker with 296 maps.

Some of the weapons are straight from old LucasArts game Outlaws.

Oh neat that's awesome, I didn't play one back in the day, must have missed it.

Personally I prefer opening the command console and using the "resurrect" command to revive in case I forgot to save my game for a long time. Also check out Ashes 2063 and it's sequels.
@chrismasterzer02 ай бұрын
That's the one I have, Ashes 2063. I'm definitely going to try it, and I think a sequel just came out as well. That's amazing with the console command and resurrect, I never thought of using console commands, probably because I don't know any. hahaha
@Rikika3332 ай бұрын
@@chrismasterzer0 For Ashes there is 2063 which is the first episode, Dead Man Walking, which is a side-story expansion kinda thing. Ashes Afterglow is episode 2, while Ashes Hard Reset is a sort of prequel but also the latest to be released. The only commands I really use is "resurrect" and "noclip", the rest are not as useful or easy to remember.

Wow, really impressive. Le Chuck 😅. Good find. I'd actually like it if the weapons had realistic(ish) loading times (maybe 10s for the musket for instance), but that would make the gamer very melee heavy, and I don't know if that would work in practice. Some of the total conversions back in the 90s were really impressive, basically a new game. Aliens Doom had me shit myself "check those corners". I can only imagine what people have come up with in the last 30 years.
@chrismasterzer02 ай бұрын
Some of these new ones are pretty amazing because they use the new engine and so have a bit more capability. I will try more over time and review them. This was unbelievably good.

John Romero just made another episode to it recently. This mid is really cool though ill look it up. Fun fact a musket can be used as a shotgun. I own black lowder guns. You can load em eith anything. Not just a ball

Oh neat that's pretty cool, I didn't know that.

Wow. Would this work on Vita? Sure we have the Doom 2 engine ported. Is everything contained in the WAD file? (Graphics, sounds) Edit: he just mentioned GZDoom and i see that has a new engine 😢
@chrismasterzer02 ай бұрын
You should try it and see if it works, everything is contained within the wad file. It does use a newer engine which gives it some extra features, one of which is changing the music on the fly within levels. I am unsure how it would work but there is no harm in giving it a try. The .wad file has everything in it. Link is in the description if you want to give it a shot. If you do, let me know if it works.

I loved the first Pirate Doom. When I figured out Pirate Doom 2 was released, I ran to play it in the same week. It is beautiful, however, a big downgrade compared to the first game. The levels of the first one are much better, and even some monster animations. The first game had 17 or 18 levels, I finished it sad and wanted much more. The second one has 32 levels. I killed Le Chuck relieved that the game was finally finished because I was having no more fun at the last levels.
@chrismasterzer02 ай бұрын
Those last few levels, OMG they are insane. Did you get through them without cheating? I kept running out of ammo. It's so good though. I think maybe I should try Pirate Doom 1 since you say it's so good. I was blown away by the level design in this one.
@felipeh.p.rodrigues50152 ай бұрын
I was able to finish them in Ultra Violence (or the skill that corresponds to it in PD 2) without cheats. However I am a veteran Doom player. I am also a mapper and modder in certain circunstances. I am used to play Doom mods and different wads. What I do is to quick save frequently. I don't try blind runs without saves as the Doom famous youtubers like Zero Master, Decino, Coincident, Vytaan, etc. And I also played in continuous gameplay, keeping the weapons from previous level (I am not a big fan of pistol start in all levels, I only do this when testing maps for wads under development, in this case, it is important). But in the last level, when I killed Le Chuck, I had the helping of other monsters. It was fun because the last hits that Le Chuck when died were from monsters, I was hidding because I was without ammo and health! So a very good strategy in Doom, mainly in maps with plenty of monaters, is to provoke infightings. You save ammo and health, and is fun to watch the monsters killing themselves!
@felipeh.p.rodrigues50152 ай бұрын
And I strongly recommend Pirate Doom 1!!! Another fun wad (with some modding) that is not very well known that I strongly recommend is the Space Cats Saga! It is harder than Pirate Dooms, but your characters (you can choose among 4 female human-cats to play with) are also very strong and a little overpowered. It is a mix of regular long levels with slaughtermaps. Maybe a nice tip for you to try in your channel!

You should get some editing software.
@chrismasterzer02 ай бұрын
I have some but it does seem a bit lacking at times, what would you suggest?
@eamonia2 ай бұрын
@@chrismasterzer0 A little bit of minor polishing. Nothing "fancy" like these insufferable doofs that have to insert a movie clip every 9 seconds but just a few cuts of specific examples of the content. Your shit rocks, don't get me wrong but maybe a cut or two here and there to display the specifics of what you're talking about. I dunno. I wish you great success and appreciate you documenting stuff that I otherwise wouldn't have even known existed. 👍
@chrismasterzer02 ай бұрын
@@eamonia Thanks for the suggestions and compliments, I will do more of that in the future. In this video I have in some areas but while playing I forgot to mark times of certain things and so I lost track of where things were over likes 7 hours of recorded video. I'll try and remember for the next time to make notes along the way. I actually just put up an early access review of another game and in that I did better with the things you are suggesting where I show what's being talked about. Maybe you could check it out and let me know if you think it's a bit better, it's for the Warhammer 40,000 Speed Freeks game. My video editing software seems to do something weird with the camera and makes it look strange at times, I haven't yet been able to solve that problem. I've tried adjusting the bitrate to insanely high levels and everything, I can only get it to look so much better, while the original footage doesn't have any issue at all. I wonder if new software might help with this problem.
