You can learn how to do Planned Pooling Crochet to create Argyle and Diamond patterns in this tutorial video. Hi I'm Donna Wolfe from Naztazia. You'll learn how to crochet a super scarf or an afghan blanket using the planned pooling technique. This special use of variegated yarn creates a nice diamond or argyle effect. Big thank you to David, creator of plannedpooling... for his amazing application that helps us with this technique.

First of all, this tutorial is awesome!! ☺️ One question. For the blanket, you upped the stitches from 85 to 86. Is it because we have to have even stitches in every base chain? Thanks!!

Hey, Donna: It’s possible I’ve already left you an admiring, fawning, and grateful message about this video; if, in fact, this is a second such message, it’s because I’m _sooo_ grateful for it that I’m moved to fawn a second time! Others claim to have developed the “easiest” and/or “best” method of planned pooling; you, however, have genuinely _succeeded!_ I found this vid because while creating a Python script to be able to create visual representations of my pooling options, I ran into the one by David who linked to this vid. (Side note: Thanks a million, David, for your script! I was only about a third of the way through mine when I found yours by accident, so you saved me a _lot_ of work, and I love you for it! 💋) Donna, I don’t need step-by-step directions to crochet things (“Make 28 SC, turn, then using the back loop, make …”); patterns to me are guidelines. I’m usually looking for shapes of the final pieces, and how I get there is up to me. Essentially, what I’m looking for is “guides” and not exact steps, and that’s ZACTLY what you’ve provided here! The little tips along the way, like to loosen or tighten one or more stitches in order to achieve my goal (of making X stitches with color D, frex) are _crazy_-helpful, and _zactly_ what I needed! The fact that you get all this info across in a confident, clear voice free of noise words (“Um/er/uh” and my very _least_ favorite of all time “[let’s] go ahead and…” said before _and_ after Every. Danged. Sentence. Fragment. makes me feel MURDEROUS around the eighth time I’ve heard it in any given video) makes you a rock star 🪨⭐️ and a boss deserving of KZbin’s equivalent of a “Best Actress” Oscar! I sooo appreciate it when people _don’t_ make it torture, a trial, and a punishment to learn something! I wish I could hug you tightly and kiss you while telling you you’re simply _perfect_ and you make my life better. This is my gift to you in return for this terrific video; if ever you’re having one of “those” days when you constantly harangue yourself, wondering why you’re here and wondering what you’re doing, pull this message out and read it again because I’m presuming (and I’m _entirely_ sure that my presumption is correct!) that I speak for a LOT of people who haven’t the time (or what they believe aren’t sufficient English skills) to tell you these things. Not many people bother to say these things and sometimes, they really, _really_ NEED to be said, and every now and then, a tragedy happens and the person to whom the tragedy happened never heard these things because no one took the time to say/write them. Because I’m painfully aware of this, I do my best to make sure it never happens to anyone in my orbit. (This also explains why you may be hearing this a second time.) Thanks _ever_ so much for leading me down the path so that I understand the math involved; this helps me to extrapolate the info (to other stitches, to other yarns, to other shapes, and so on). And that’s what I needed: the basic math and understanding so that I can run off in my various directions, armed with the basics so that I can extrapolate. I genuinely appreciate your taking the time to explain so that I can apply the principles in the ways in which I need ‘em, and you neither spoke down to me nor drove me out of my tiny little mind with noise words. You’re a gem, I appreciate you, and I’m really glad I stumbled onto your vid! If you see him, I suggest you and David hug and kiss each other for us in the viewing audience; that way, you two can get what we’d like you each to have (warm fuzzies for having made this video), and (I don’t know what David is to you) perhaps a little romance? (If the latter suggestion is laughable for whatever reason, then warm fuzzies are _always_ good to have no matter the relationship! Serotonin makes life _fun!_ ☺️) There! Now if anything happens to you, we’re covered because you know what we need you to know, and if you live a long and happy life, you have this backup BandAid in case you have one of those wretched days when niggling doubt causes you to question what you’ve been doing. With lotsa ❤️, 💋, 🤗, admiration, and 🙏🏼, ❌ ⭕️ ❌ ⭕️ 💋💋💋 And as usual, please stay happy, healthy, and SAFE! Binky

Awesome computer prossessing This working pattern is the step up of what is known as tapestry crochet or old crochet which uses cross stitch designs and its up to you to work the cross stitch as a single crochet or a little square of three double crochet or a hollow square of double crochets and chains . Its awesome that I can use a varigated yarn and use it as I like 💪 Thanks for sharing ❤

I appreciate your video so very much! The explanation is clear and concise. I wish the yarn that you used back in 2016 was still the same today. I bought the yarn just because of your video. I've made many pooling blankets since I learned how to use the pooling calculator. For the life of me, I cannot get the RHSS With Love Lemon Drop to pool. I've tried it with your number of stitches, I've tried multiple combinations but it absolutely will not pool. All of the sc stitches you made in combinations of 3 are huge and the 4 dark gray are so tight. The length of the colors have changed so much are are so inconsistent that it will not pool. Such a beautiful combination of colors too! Oh well. I will put it in time out and maybe later on I can pull it out and do something with it. Thank you! Your video is still fantastic!

I have wanted to try planned pooling for so long because I love plaid. I have watched so many videos with different techniques. They are beyond confusing and it put me off trying...until I came upon your video! I worked the chain in my solid border color and then the first row. Next I used the program to see about the second row. It showed where I needed to add an extra stitch on my first row. I can crochet plaid! Thank you from the bottom of my heart. The only thing I need to do now is find a yarn that isn't different shades of pink but has completely different colors and I'll be making a plaid blanket in no time. Blessings!

This is such a great tutorial! (We can't say it often enough LOL).I love that there is nearly no cheating/correction necessary - I'm far too impatient to pull out stitches over and over again. Finally a great way to get a decent pattern with short frequence variegated yarn; normally I avoid that because of the always disappointing results - both in knitting and crocheting. Cheers to you and David. :)

Thank You for explaining this tool! As always I can depend on your excellent teaching skills. I’ve been crocheting 53 years and I’m quite knowledgeable myself but I still learn something new once in awhile.

That's the best tutorial yet Just discovered it myself; but some tutorials made it harder than it had to be. This a momentary hiatus. I can not post my pics on the Tube but I've really like this technique

I was becoming very frustrated trying to understand planned pooling and then I came across your video. Thank you so much! This is by far the best explanation I’ve come across. I was all but ready to give up until I watched this. Based on your video, I’m now confident that I can do it!

OMG DONNA!!! Thank you for really breaking down this process. When I first started, many months ago, I was able to do it. So of course I frogged it because of a minor opsy and was never able to get the pooling back. I just so happened to come across your instructions when I picked up my "pooling" project today to give it another run. I am so excited to get this started again. Thank you so much for this.

This is the first time I was able to do the planned pooling correctly. Thanks so much for the awesome video! The other tutorials I've seen utilize the moss stitch with lots of guess work and looking two rows back. I don't need to stop and look two rows back when I can count the stitches for each color. Thanks again!
