When I became Vegan 4 years ago, I paid and did the Daltons 30 days Plan as my first step to becoming Vegan. I Found the recipies easy to follow and were really yummy. Watching the videos made everything better and fills in the bits they miss in their recipies. Jill is Australian and hubby is American. They live in New Zealand now. Well they used to. Their daughters are very talented in the Arts. The youngest has a mucic CD out. The second cook book has been out for a while now and the recipies are better in my opinion. Watch some of her videos for what you have made. There will be some ahah moments for sure. CJ

For someone who dislikes cooking VERY MUCH - I was drawn in by the title (MADE EASY). I only made two recipes and thought... well... I do not like cooking, it must be me. These are not easy and it took WAY longer for me to make than the time stated in the book. SO, thank you for your honest opinion - it let me know I am not alone. I really enjoy her videos. I have this cookbook and tried many of the recipes. The only one that I tried the same as you is the cinnamon roll oatmeal. I cut the water in the sauce to ½ a cup and it turned out great. I used the leftover sauce as a base for ice cream and it gave the ice cream a great texture. Seems like you hit the not so good recipes and I happened to use the best ones. Others that were a favorite with me were: Indian butter chicken, mushroom bourguignon (made mine in the instant pot), mushroom potatoes soup, strawberry vinaigrette, Thai green curry, peanut butter cookie and moroccan vegetable soup. There were more that I liked as well. I love to watch her videos as I cook. It's too bad that you happened to choose the recipes that weren't very good. Great commentary on the recipes. I don't think I will try the ones you made. Thanks Jeremy. Always learn so much from your videos.

With any gluten free crust, whether it be almond, oat, cauliflower or other gluten free flour pizza crust, after blending you need to cook it so that it hardens so the sauce doesn't sog up the crust and then warm up the toppings... It's pretty standard with gluten free cooking. I wish she had specified it.

Jeremy, these videos are my fav you do!! So fun. I did have this cookbook and sent it back after a week. i made the apple pie and a broccoli casserole and each recipe was a fricken journey, amazingly long and too many steps with very little reward. I feel like the author and her family are way beyond many who just started in terms of how they taste things. Everything was bland, and other recipes I have tried from her website were tasteless. I would never give this book to someone just starting, it would make them quit. Books like yours, and Plantyou Scrappy cooking are my kind of cookbooks , tasty and easy. I know many people like Jills recipes and thats great, but I respect that you stuck to your guns and told people the truth about how you, and apparently many people feel her book.

A very fair review of all the volume 1 cookbook recipes you selected Jeremy. I enjoy all of Jill's videos and frequently save them as pdf for my recipe file or refer back online. I have purchased the ebook of her Volume 2. Yes, as mentioned here, she could up the spices and heat in some of her recipes, but she's cooking for her family, so I can adjust to my taste. (Think of all the comments the NYT recipes get, with suggestions!) I did decide to try the pizza myself, following the online directions which are current and, along with video show parbaking for 10 minutes. It seemed to me common sense to bake the crust at a higher temp than 350, so I went with 425 and after letting it cool for 5 minutes had a perfect hand-held slice (to which I had to add some spices to enjoy!). I gave it a B- Next I'll have to try the bread!

I do think though that you could have checked her video of the recipe you were making and had some of your questions answered. I'm not excusing the errors, just saying that's probably what I would have done and have done when I've been making her recipes. I understand you are reviewing the "book," but that may not be a true representation of the recipe as it does apparently contain so many errors.
@jillianvanliew2 күн бұрын
Wow-that’s crazy that they had so many errors in their cook book! I have made a couple of whole food Plantbased cooking show recipes & have enjoyed them. One that is in my recipe rotation is the Mushroom Stroganoff. Really good flavors and not too time consuming. It can be paired with pasta, potatoes or rice. The sauce does make about double the amount you actually need, even when pouring it HEAVILY on your base. So I end up eating over all the bases mentioned for a few different meals.

Actually they aren't just whole food plant based, they follow the "nutritarian diet" of dr Joel Fuhrman, which is salt, oil and sugar free, and focuses heavily on maximizing nutrient density. Sometimes unfortunately, is not considered the most tasty or satisfying option, but it's definitely beneficial, especially for someone trying to reverse or manage chronic diseases.

One of my dogs does the whining with the good toys or treats. She wanders around trying to figure out where to hide them. Then we find a stash of chewy bones under the cushion of her dog bed in pristine condition.

@pbandjeremy could you do a video on best ways to cook tofu? Trying to incorporate it more into my diet but struggle with getting the texture and flavor right. Thanks!!

Greetings from Topeka Kansas! I believe Jill has followed the Nutritarian diet. Doesn’t Dr Furman promote more nut consumption the other PB Doctors? I’ve bought this book on Kindle when it was cheaper. I’ve found a couple recipes I think are ok but they were easily tweaked as they cooked.

I don’t prefer to have fruit in my oatmeal and I also like it thin enough to drink out of a mug. I like things more on the plain side and when I want bold flavors I tend towards Indian

Is your cookbook only (Family Favorites eBook)? I'm asking because when I went to your link that's all I saw. And I also wanted to ask, of the vegan recipes in your book do you share any of them on here so I can try them and see if I can make them? Thank you for any help or info.!

Ephpie 😊 hello from Bristol, England. Am really enjoying your cookbook, making Annie's loaf tomorrow 😊

Thanks for the honest review. I have watched some of her videos and they haven't appealed to me, just add a canned or frozen veg kind of thing that doesn't seem to deepen any flavor. Maybe for a family with lots of kids like hers.

Thanks for the honest reviews of your videos. My kids usually would have the same reactions as yours in trying recipes! lol I can't have too many fats in my diet either, I try to stay away from coconut milk and use it sparingly....since going PBWF, I am always looking for good recipes and books! Purchased your family cookbook and looking forward to try that.

I've watched some of her videos, but don't follow her. One reason is that she does use way more fat than I like, and that her recipes are geared for a family, which is different than simply batch cooking. As far as her book goes, I haven't seen it, but it screams self-published. I know something about publishing, since I am from back in the day when self-publishing was first starting and suckering people into going that route. The quality of self-published books can be very, very iffy, especially when the author doesn't get a professional editor involved. Your book is the first WFPB cookbook I have ordered and will be the only one I've ever bought. Part of why I did is that you have demonstrated admirable professionalism. This is why I like your video reviews of these authors, not to mention the brutal honesty of your children. That in itself is very instructive.

A lot of the recipes from Jill's first book are a miss for me, but I do enjoy the pizza. It did take a bunch of experimenting with the recipe to get to the thickness and texture that my husband and I like. Most of the time I use a cauliflower crust that I found on the internet.

My lady got so excited about the physical copy of the PB With J cookbook, but when I click the link, it only seems to be the ebook. How can we get a physical copy of your cookbook? Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately I have to agree with some people's comments. I've tried some of Jill's recipes from her videos and didn't like any of them 😔. Same happens with the Jaroudi family's ones. At least for my taste 😕. Caitlin shoemaker's older oil free recipes are awesome though 😋. I make her chickpea pot pie and the butternut squash/green apple creamy soup all the time! My go to quick pizza crust is whole wheat pita bread. I can easily pick it up😁

I do see what yr talking tho . Most vegan recipes I have done I find are often blandish & I have to add more seasoning. And I agree abt the cashews . As a cardiac patient I have to be very selective abt using cashews.

Hi Jeremy! Susie here from Winfield Pennsylvania! Love your videos. One of my favorite recipes to make are always a simple stir fry. They are simple, straight forward and yummy!!!

Love the channel! Also I really think you guys should use Merle’s ranking scale. It doesn’t make sense that there’s an S, but no D. Hers is the best - it’s got all the levels and is really well defined - “the vegans have gone too far” I mean, come on ;)
@pbwithjeremy2 күн бұрын
I like having 5. I mean going from D to F is the same as C to F since hers leaves out the E too :) - I love her ranking system but hers is more about ranking how well something translates to vegan so not sure it makes sense for what we do.

The pizza show was from 9 years ago, and she cooked the crust first before adding toppings and cooking it again.
@pbwithjeremyКүн бұрын
What "show" do you mean? the video? I made it based off the recipe in the book following the instructions
@TheLillyGrКүн бұрын
@@pbwithjeremyright, but I looked up the show, and that's what she did. If she did not include the crust bake in the book, that was a huge faux pas.

Yup!
@CharGC1239 сағат бұрын
@@pbwithjeremy The book didn't tell you to pre-bake the crust? That's a pretty glaring omission if so because that crust obviously needed it desperately.
