A combination of vegan and fasting saved my life. I peaked at 375lbs with a lot of health conditions. 1 year on all conditions have gone and I'm down 125lbs. Best decision I ever made. Tom PS Man, your comment is really a stretch. Salsa and spaghetti sauce replicate blood? Lasagna and burritos have a wrapping like skin? You really should acquaint yourself with reality, because I guarantee you that vegans/people who are plant based don’t think these things when we’re making our meals. Your comment was really asinine.
@daksmom19995 жыл бұрын
Tom PS The argument could be made that those people who still eat meat are the lower caste people, and it’s condescending of you to liken vegans to lower caste people. There are millions of people who eat a strictly plant based diet, which doesn’t include seitan, there are millions of people who eat a strictly raw diet, then there are vegans who do include seitan in their diet. They all have their diet regimens for ethical reasons, for medical reasons, for compassionate reasons. Why it bothers you that there are people who choose to omit flesh from their diets is beyond me, because people who don’t eat meat don’t criticize you or degrade you because you do.
@daksmom19995 жыл бұрын
Tom PS good lord. Why don’t you try living in the present? What happened in the dark ages should stay there. Vegetarianism and veganism have changed drastically over the years. People in third and fourth world countries are held hostage by their leaders about everything they can be held hostage for. But, things are so much different in this country from when I became vegetarian, then vegan. Some vegetarians and vegans do want “meat” in their diet regimen, and want to eat the “meat” without having to kill an animal.

Everyone went with simple and hearty. So many cookbooks get weird with ingredients that are hard to find.
@rebeccawhite51285 жыл бұрын
Not if you look deeper - curries require a lot of ingredients, especially with the spices, which are the epitome of what people have trouble finding. Sushi requires a lot of time to construct. Chilis also have a lot of ingredients and need to cook awhile for the flavors to meld. All the ingredients made of nuts (cashew sour cream, for instance) take time and effort and are just a condiment. Bowls are put together of things cooked separately. Look closer and you'll see there's pretty in-depth cooking going on with ingredients that are indeed hard to find for many. Not that I'm complaining - good food requires effort.

@Sam G PLEASE list those 15 nutrients. Everything that is not in plants, except B12 (found in the soil) is non-essential, meaning the body makes it's own. That's why it is in the animal bodies you eat. Indigestible fiber is great for your digestive system - it cleans out your colon (kind of the point of fiber). And lastly, most of the 'nutrient blocking' nutrients gets released when soaked or cooked (which you probably do anyway with grains and legumes) and the remainer may actually help block cancerous cells! Check out Nutritionfacts.org for incredible, life-changing and most importantly, scientifically sound, info on food!

Sure, if you shop at Whole Foods where the produce is washed with holy water then I’m sure the bill racks up, but there’s nothing wrong with buying conventional fruits and veggies. I was so excited to hear the shout-out to the Happy Pear! Love those guys & their recipes are not only delicious but accessible to anyone (I’m referring to my own super-tight budget & the concerns around that as a poverty-line vegan. I’ll do whatever it takes to maintain my ethical values, as well as my personal health issues. My first grocery stop is the Dollar Tree, esp for beans, lentils, canned tomato situations, etc; I see tight-budget veganism as such a fantastic creative kitchen challenge-it’s not a limitation at all. I’ve stopped eating out, or ordering overpriced food altogether bc my “single-skillet-activist” food collages (uh, recipes & meals) are so fun. I’m only feeding myself here, so that’s helpful. Additionally, I was recently gifted an InstantPot, so that has opened up so many new ways to 1) (!!!) save money & 2) help my family by cooking their dry beans & grains. I cannot sing loudly enough the praises for InstantPot & pressure cookers like it! That means so much to me, my general happiness & my desire to give back to my parents who have helped me so much as a traumatic brain injury survivor-my vegan commitment wasn’t taken lightly or overnight bc of the fact that I cannot be entirely independent. However, going vegan & cooking everything for myself has been such a huge & positive step forward in the right & healthy direction. (Whoops, wrote a ton-honestly was just excited to hear some acknowledgement for the #happypear...🤷🏻♀️) ☮️❤️🌱

But still it is much easier to prepare plant based dishes. Problem is in viability of "vegan products" and Croatian conservative mentality. Things will change soon enough because no one can stop development of science in any field of study and the truth will come out eventually. 😁

Luka Brkljačić I know!!! But you are lucky. Croatia is still better than Bosnia or Serbia or Montenegro. When I was visiting last year I was able to find the most options in Croatia. Our culture is really fucked up when it comes to the treatment of animals. My entire family thinks ‘America has brainwashed me’ and ‘I need to come back home and eat real food’. I’m hoping this backward way of thinking will gradually be phased out. It’s absolutely disgusting.

Well, it'll probably be the worst decision of your life and you will regret it in the future. All of these people look horrible. The do not look like they are in shape and they all look like they are deficient in something. They look sad and with the worst eye bags ever. Also, they have terrible aging signs, which they should not have for their age.

I did a whole food plant based diet about four years ago. I failed a few times due to cravings but I finally succeeded to stay on it and after about six months I had lost 45 pounds. My depression even seemed to go away after several weeks. Unfortunately, I let myself fall off the diet and gained back the weight. But I’m going to do it again. My obstacle is salad dressings. Balsamic vinegars get old after a few days. I just bought Dr. Joel Fuhrman’s cookbook and hopefully the salad dressing recipes in there will help me out. I really want to succeed this time as I’m pre-diabetic and 55 years old. My significantly younger fiancé and I want to enjoy a long and active life together. She’s super supportive and will eat the same as me even though she’s not over weight and is quite healthy. Cooking at home always and never eating out I think will be key for my success, especially in the first several months. I’m totally open to anyone’s advice.

My breakfast after 18 hour fast every day: soy milk powder, nutritional yeast, ground flax, walnuts, almonds, pumpkin seeds, Brazil nut, cocoa powder, cinnamon, mint, ginger powder, rolled oats, dates, all in cold green tea. 600 calories and more than 50% RDA of every vitamin, mineral and fat, not to mention around 60% of fibre. In that 6 hour window, I also eat spinach and other greens, a few pieces of fruits and and all kinds of cruciferous and other veggies. I almost never cook... This is also awesome for my financial health since it costs me only a few dollars a day.

There are a few comments below from people who say they prefer white rice even though they know brown rice is more healthy. 4 tips (& some ideas for number 4) Brown basmati rice tastes a lot nicer when it is fresh. Buy smaller bags and don’t store in the cupboard for years, find good recipes and use it. Throw in a handful of brown lentils. It lightens the texture of brown rice and adds to the flavour. Season brown rice with a twist of black pepper while you cook it. Make the rice fit the meal. See examples. Mushrooms and veg in a creamy almond or coconut curry goes best with a white rice, saffron rice, or rice with a handful of frozen peas thrown in to add a sweetness. An aubergine and chick pea middle Eastern curry goes well with a white basmati rice and a handful of frozen Broad beans thrown in to add a creaminess. A rich tamarind, veg and bean curry goes best with a wholegrain basmati rice. A vegan chilli goes really well with the brown rice brown lentil combo. A West Indian style curry goes really well with a white & brown rice mix (start cooking the brown rice 5 minutes before adding the whits rice) then when the rice is nearly ready, throw in some sweet corn to add a little sweetness.
