To correct Daltos a little bit, it’s actually that small animals tend to get bigger when they’re stuck on islands and big animals get smaller. That’s how we end up with giant tortoises on the Galapagos and also at the end of the last ice age on Malta there ended up being a species of 3 foot tall mammoths

Crab is an efficient generalist body plan for crustaceans, hence why they tend to evolve a crab shape. It doesn't really translate well to other groups

Everything won’t become crabs, but a lot of crustaceans will because of how good the body plan is. This has happened before in evolution where certain body plans become the best for a type of animal. So it means a lot of things will look similar that aren’t that related.

If I remember correctly he hates having to give them orders all the time to be useful. Civ needs a feature to command multiple units at once.

It’s funny bc as someone who came from like paradox style games (I played civ first but I never really stuck with it until after I’d moved onto much more micro-managey strategy games then I came back) creating units and ordering them around is like one of my fav parts of civ lol

So about the crab meme, it's not like they are the ultimate lifeform but its just that evolutionary scientists have discovered Multilple crab species that evolved that way independently from each other, like 6 times or so if i remember correctly and there not many example of convergent evolution happening as many times as it has for crab, leading to the meme where everyone sees it as an endpoint of evolution

Does Lewis realize you can still get happiness from luxuries if they're more than 3 tiles from the city? It'll take a while for borders to grow to it since you can't buy the tiles. But (unless Lek changed it) as long as the luxury or strategic resource is improved and in your land, you get it

I Rythians idea of a chest bursting Barbarian at 14:40. It would take fighting against the AI to a next level if suddenly a few turns later your unit gets replaced with a barbarian that pillages your land.

someone made a starcraft 2 game mode with it. there was this huge 12 person free for all where all units turned to zombies 60 seconds after they died but also buildings and such. just a mindless ai attacking anything that got in range. it was great

new civ checklist because its been a while: tons of pointless banter spiff or potato will find some massive exploit, try and explain it to everyone only to have everyone screw it up somebody will become "boat king" despite explaining the dangers of coastal cities someone will get ahead and everyone will try to gang up on them, only to crab bucket lewis will get attacked and churn out an absolute metric ton of units duncan will focus science mostly someone will get in the middle of two other people, probably rythian, and get destroyed when those people go to war invetiably the phrases "choco peace, peace in our time, forever war, and my start sucks can we restart" will maybe be said someone, probably duncan, will get confused by a mechanic daltos will misplay and screw things up for himself until he gets frustrated and screws someone else over by attacking them two people will build the same wonder and get upset when the other person gets it before them if i miss anythign else lemme know also lewis's issue with that barb island coulda easily been dealt with if he made like one or two land units instead of a damn melee ship..youd think hed know this by now additional edit: love rythian naming his cities after final fantasy 14. caught that immedately

Barbarians are coded to prioritize civilian and scouting units over any other unit type, in both 5 and 6.

Regarding the survivalism upgrade for the scout - I'm pretty sure the default healing rate of units is 20hp per turn inside your borders, and 10hp outside your borders. So the upgrade brings it up to 15hp outside your borders

Their trade routes can't be plundered and they get a free cargo ship and extra trade route at compass, then they have the Great Galleas and a unique national wonder called the Great canal that gives a big buff to trade and gold in the city its built

To Rythian: whenever you think you *might* have trouble with barbarians in a game, always take the Honor opener! You don't need to put any more points into Honor after that; but the opener gives you additional combat strength against barbs, reveals to you whenever a new barb camp spawns, AND it gives you culture for killing barbs (so it's basically a free policy, because in most games you'll kill enough barbs to make up for the culture cost of the policy).

Yea no thats not good advise, generally its way better to finish policy trees esp. The first one, just start building 2 scouts first thing every game, and if you really need make an extra Archer

Actually because opening it pushes back the cost of the next policy opening honour actually costs you whatever the culture cost of the last policy you take in the endgame which could easily be 1000+ culture, not to mention the tempo loss of finishing your other trees slower

Me too, but he did kind of needed to go. Like, I'm sure that he's a good guy and wasn't trying to be a creep, but like, please Sjin, that was like the 4th time you managed to do this. I feel that he's innocent, that he isn't a manpulitive bastard, that he's genuinly kind and care for people. That the drama is, instead, just a byproduct of him being really bloody stupid and can't pick up signals that he should stop doing whatever he's doing, or that he should stop talking to people online, that these word could be turned against him, but the stupidity excuse can only go so far, especailly when it's affecting those around you. I probably wouldn't have mind if he had stuck around. He probably could've stuck around, in all honesty, but it was for the best, for everyone, that he left. Because if he didn't leave then he'll WILL say or do something stuipd again that'll land him in another round of drama, that'll only further hurt everyone around him. Sorry for the tangent. I just wanted to get that off my chest, I've been sitting on it for a few years. I know I'll get flak for talking about Sjin but I'll rather get roasted than to keep my thoughts to myself and worry about being wrong and have my fealings hurt.

I think about him often honestly- and the company is put first and Lewis tries to run it as professionally as he can - I'm sure Sjin knew this before he made his poor choices, and its crazy to think both these people did series together, just the two of them. I don't think talking about him should be shunned or looked down upon, Lewis has usually been pretty straight up about these types of things.
