That Giannis spacing element Pen brought up was fking horrible lol! Giannis is guarded like he's a three point shooter because helping off of him is basically like handing him a free driving and cutting lane to the rim. If you help off of him, he'll 45 or baseline cut you to death and attack off the catch and score two points automatically, not to mention his athleticism making him a lob threat. I know because I've seen it this year. He's extremely consistent at punishing people for helping off of him. Giannis does generate cutting and driving lanes for his teammates because of him ability to get to the rim, especially for teammates on the weak side of the floor. Pen was trying to bring the offense/defense being connected point, and trying to question if Marz knows ball off of it, but then pretends on purpose to act like Giannis isn't a floor spacer because he doesn't shoot threes well. Lol

Pen on one hand, you want people to contextualize when pointing out Jokic's flaws (which is fair btw), but you've not done it once in this stream for Giannis. You seem to have small digs for him like "he is in the east", "it's harder to build around him", "terrible shooter", etc... Marz & John D think Jokic is the better player, but they presented both players' qualities and deficiencies without glazing or bashing one of them. When talking about Jokic, you are slowly becoming the quiet version of Swipa.
@pensarebasketball3 сағат бұрын
Nah, I just think the gap between them is larger than those 2 (probably) do, and while I can easily point to Jokic's rim defense and switchability as clear issues, I can point to 20 things with Giannis as well. The issue I have is we present both as having equal weaknesses and that's simply NOT the case. Jokić is a better defender than Curry. He does as much defensively as Magic. Those two are top 10 all time for most and yet I'd argue Jokić is better offensively than both. Why does defense become 50% of the equation when we do Jokić vs. Giannis but it's NOT 50% of the equation when we do CP3 vs. Curry? That's the gap in the argument and it's stupid to me. If offense is indeed 70% of the game, Jokić clears. If it's 50% Giannis clears. But if it's 50% then Kawhi clears Kobe and Curry so keep it consistent.
@MarzTalksSports2 сағат бұрын
@@pensarebasketballnoone has pretended offense and defense are equal in fact we had a whole segment discussing exactly that yesterday. maybe youd enjoy it idk
@pensarebasketball2 сағат бұрын
@MarzTalksSportsI watched it friend. The gap between these two is exactly on offense and defense. No one thinks Jokic is the better defender. So we agree there's the gap there. But some of us are massively disagreeing on the offensive gap between these two. The entire equation then comes down to 3 variables. 1. What is the offensive gap? 2. What's the defensive gap? 3. What is offense worth vs. defense Hypothetical: Jokić 10 offense, Giannis 8 offense.. gap 2. Jokić 5 defense, Giannis 9 defense, gap 4. If offense is 75%, defense 25% they're basically equal. But then some of us can't even agree Jokić is better offensively. Some of us on the other hand think there's a seismic gap offensively. Which then comes down to the bigger philosophical question of what makes a player great offensively? It's not the checklist argument. It's not the volume argument. It's not the efficiency argument. It's not the consistency argument or the clutch argument. It's all those arguments. That's why we have such a hard time comparing these 2 players. We can barely even agree on what we're even measuring.

Yo Marz, I’ve heard you talk about there being a difference between a level 9 and a level 10 rating, and reaching higher levels is very difficult, and therefore it shouldn’t be the same as the jump from a level five to level six, for example. But to the opposing defense, how much of that is impactful? Could one argue that you already can’t guard a level 9, so a level 10 could be overkill? Hypothetically, if a level 10 could bring their production down to a level 9 and transfer some of that effort to an increase of defense from, let’s say, 5 to 7, which would impact the opposing team more? The defensive jump or the offensive decline?

I don’t know if this makes sense but how i see if someone is reliable on defense is, if you can hypothetically make basketball sort of like football where you can switch defense and offense per possession. How often would that offensive player would get subbed out for that defensive presence matters. So if on offense if Giannis is on the court, and the bucks score, then it goes to a defensive possession, i don’t think Giannis would get off the court vs jokic would definitely be in the offensive possession but they would probably sub jokic on the defensive possession if they had a decent defending big which

I know the brothas on the panel can't say it because they don't want the show to head that direction, which I respect, but Penn capes for Jokic so hard because he sees himself in Jokic. Jokic has become a PASSABLE playoff defender in recent years. He's an abysmal rim protector. Why to try find nuance in a poor defender? Why say Jokic "clears" Giannis as a playoff rebounder when he only averages .1 more? The answer is obvious and has nothing to do with basketball.

He was too biased for the convo but he was also joking about the rebounds

Jokić literally comes from my country. I was born in Yugoslavia. So hell yes. But I don't just cap for players from Serbia. I've never been a loud advocate for Jovic or Bogdanovic at all. I do love Topic tho.
@stablsed3092 сағат бұрын
@@pensarebasketball Jovic and Bogdanovic aren't on a level where they would merit any type of caping, so that's a null point. Again, as I've stated elsewhere, you constantly bring up "court processing" as a way to denigrate black players, imo. This is a racial trope as old as time. It's just my opinion but I've seen this rhetoric from you on a consistent basis and since the brothas on the show can't call it out because they don't want the show to head in that kind of direction, I am. Just my opinion man.
