Anyone else just love his unique style? Like everything from the sound of his snare drum to the pocket to the blazing fast fills just has a completely unique vibe compared to any other drummer I've heard. Floating on an Island was so well composed. How did you make it feel almost like a half-time 4/4 groove though. That was freaking cool.

To my ear, he's putting a lot of emphasis on 3, which makes the groove "square" out into being evenly spaced, similar to a groove in 4 with predictable, evenly spaced beats. In the chorus, the groove hits 3 and the "and" of 5, which is evenly spaced hits at 2x speed compared to just hitting on 3. It sounds cooler in odd-numbered meters because one or more "groove" notes is on an otherwise weak beat.
