I found any easy fix for kick serves is using a backhand grip , as it forces you to swing left to right more creating a kick serve, try it , it works. watching federer do it very very suttle grip change on his second serve kick

Guys keep up The good work. Thanks. 1 thing to notice: -you can see that the serve you are hitting is actually a Top Slice and not a Kick serve. Because the hitting point on the ball is right of the center and low. To kick you need to hit the ball left of the center and low. Also when you make a dorsal flex in wrist you make it more difficult to hit a kickserve. Please continue with your great videos.

Would have like to seen a few actual serves, to see the swing pathway, if you finished with butt cap and elbow up and the grip. It seems that you are using a continental there. I have never been able to get any kind of kick on the ball without using an extreme eastern backhand grip but after watching your explanation that might be part of the reason. Can't wait to try this out. Thxs guys!

I toss parallel to the baseline (or 12 o’clock) on all my serves... flat, kick, slice and spins. When I make contact with the ball, it’s between 10 and 11 o’clock on the vertical plane. My tossing arm is also totally straight ... no bend anywhere! Bending the back as much as possible for your body type is necessary as well. It took 10 years and thousands of hours of practice to get my serve the way I wanted it.

This is a good exercise and many will feel an increase in racket head speed by isolating the arm and staying sideways but not worthy of all caps. Max power comes from the kinetic chain initiated from the legs, through the core and then a loose wrist snap.

Make sure you have a HUGE bucket of balls when you start trying kick serves or you will be chasing balls that went over the fence every two minutes. My 2 cents.
@kerrypittenger9634 жыл бұрын
Do you change your grip at all? I use this serve for a second serve mostly but throw it in once in awhile for a first out wide to a righty BH,... I've never heard of keeping my racquet path along the baseline. I will try it today!!
@Playyourcourt4 жыл бұрын
kerry pittenger I would try to stay with the continental grip. You can change it a very small degree if you find it helps. Kicking high to the backhand is always a great strategy. Glad to hear you enjoyed the vid, thanks for watching!

I tried. I really tried. But from “3:00 to 9:00 position”, I just couldn’t understand the words you were using. I’ve played tennis for 29 years, never learned a kick serve, really want to, but still can’t find a single KZbin video that uses vocabulary that someone who DOESN’T hit a kick serve can understand. Your videos have been awesome, but for kick serves, I gave to keep looking.

The two example serves that Scott does on his knees aren't kick serves. For both serves, the ball is bouncing to the left (toward the duce court). A kick serve should be bouncing "kicking" to the outside of the ad court. Please review and comment! Thank you!
@Playyourcourt5 жыл бұрын
John Kraemer hi, thanks for the question. It’s a misconception that a kick-serve must advance off the court (kicking to the outside of the court). A kick serve can certainly be used to go straight up (body serve) or even target the T which used to be commonly referred to as the “American twist”. Obviously Scott was slowing the demo down in order to view the mechanics hence the lack of action on the ball. Perhaps that’s why it appears there’s a lack of kick. As we tell students quite frequently, “watch me, not the ball” 😉. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for the video. I don't have a problem with my toss as much as I don't know how to aim the kick serve. Any chance you can explain to me?
@Playyourcourt5 жыл бұрын
Hey Wally aiming the kick serve isn’t all that different from aiming your flat serve. It’s all about the angle of your racquet face at contact.

In a real kick serve, do you use your wrist when you brush it up?

The wrist will help the hand open up as the strings approach the ball. Hope this helps!

Great tip but my concern is there is no disguise right?
@Playyourcourt5 жыл бұрын
@Laurence Corray In time we want to be able to use the same toss in order to disguise the different spin. This takes time however and in the learning phase it is easier to exaggerate the location of the toss in order to learn the technique and feel. Thanks for the question and thanks for watching 🙏🏻

You say the kick serve is different than the topspin serve, but you don't explain or show the difference. Would you clarify the difference?
@Playyourcourt5 жыл бұрын
+Glenn Moody solid question sir. A lot of people refer to their topspin serve as a kick serve, but to be classified as a “kick serve” the ball has to kick up and out after contact with the ground. This technique is much more difficult to accomplish than the average topspin serve. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

@Playyourcourt5 жыл бұрын
Yep! 1 o’clock and out in front for a flat toss. You want your toss to lead you into the court to ensure you’re using your legs and transferring your weight into your serve.

Are we talking about first serve? Second serve is usually a spin and slower. I used to adjust my grip for second serve and toss just like a first. Club tennis, not professional.
@Playyourcourt5 жыл бұрын
Hey Peter, thanks for watching! The kick serve is more commonly used as a second serve, but many players (especially in doubles) will use the kick on their first serve as well. However the mechanics shouldn’t change between first and second serve, the kick motion and racquet path is the same.

@Playyourcourt5 жыл бұрын
Schnooks Dad you’re assuming all kick-serves must bend out wide..while a kick-serve can kick up and bend left or right. This is a introductory video on the kick serve introducing the concept. Everyone starts somewhere.
@SugarlandTennis4 жыл бұрын
@@Playyourcourt kick serves by a right-hander always cause the balls move to the right side after bounce, and any serves that make the balls moved to the left after bounce are called slice serves. Don't create confusion for the new players. Incompetent coaches are the main reason why so many novices are confused.
