Flood in the basement of a 100 family building in NYC because the sump pump connection came off and all dirty water was discharging outside. This job happened on the last day of the year last year.

As a plumber that forgot to unplug the pump after pulling tampons out of it and testing functionality before dropping it back in the sump. I can tell you that your life flashes in front of you when you hear the click and you’re looking down the discharge pipe. I got a face full of brown water. I almost quit plumbing that day. I work in Chicago so most of the time when working with cast iron I have to lead the joints, but every now and then we do use the this couplings. They make a special glue for them which has the consistency of ruber cement it work like magic and I never worry about leaks, not even when doing stack test.😊

Black Swan no hub sealant if you guys arent using it yet. That stuff hardens into a very nice resin and helps a lot with no hub leaks
@sunoclockoneday2576 Жыл бұрын
Yeah man , I use permatex on those in certain situations myself , done some government work that specified using it on every joint , shit is wild . You have to cut the rubbers off to make repairs but it won't leak at the joint . Even those husky bands pop loose after many years. Using those impact drivers messes those bands up too. I always use a nut driver and torque wrench , I know it takes longer but less chance of spinning one of those bands out

Thrust blocks are required for many of the pipe junctions we do. Could probably tie everything together with unistrut and clamps. Let the Huskys hold the water in and the blocking hold the pipes together.

Ok so a few things. It’s leaking because the 45 off the Wye isn’t plumb it needed the fittings touching. Also the husky couplings have almost 2” of jacket per side and the bottom of a cross wye only allows for about an 1”. It was a bad install from the beginning but you could have fixed it correctly with a level and 1 normal no hub coupling.
