MY BOUNDARIES (IMPORTANT)
stop asking me to make videos about ever after high. same with the winx club. no ifs, ands, or buts about it. i have said numerous times i dont care to watch, so quit trying to change my mind.
i make it clear what my niche is. literally say what it is in the beginning of my videos: nostalgia, family, and children’s entertainment. When i say nostalgia, that means nothing in the older demographic past the year of 2015 (because that is nostalgic for me)

yes, every once and a while i talk about something outside of my niche if i really want to, but i mainly put that content on my patreon.

and no, i will not make a second channel to talk about these things.

Precisely, this is why I abhor the "Black Best Friend" trope. Their sole purpose for existing is to prop up their (usually) white best friend, yet we get no insight into their own lives and aspirations. Otis and Eric from "Sex Education" are probably one of the only exceptions to this, in that Eric receives just as much plot relevance and growth outside of his friendship with Otis.

Are you familiar with the movie "Big Trouble In Little China"? I read different analysis stuff about how Kurt Russell, while being the main character, is much more of the sidekick to the other Asians in the cast than the other way around. I've noticed this same phenomenon in the Stranger Things fandom. Black people (and even non black people!) saying they don't like Billy Hargrove because he's racist and abusive, and then people coming up and trying to defend him by 1) insisting that he actually wasn't racist and just didnt like Lucas, the only black main character in the show, for no reason, and 2) saying he "deserved a redemption arc" and "it was an unfortunate situation because he had a hard childhood" BOO-F**KING-HOO so do TONS of children that doesn't mean you get to be racist. But then Lucas and his little sister Erica get to be hated to OBLIVION for minimal reasons, just because they were "annoying" and NO ONE BATS an eye, and no other characters get nearly as much hate for no reason. It's just suspicious, people are really showing their true colors.

I totally agree. It seem to me that, since J.K Rowling decided to frame Snape as a hero for commiting one sacriface after being abusive for 7 books, an awful trend in popular media (written by white people) began. If he's a white cishet character, he will be put on a pedestal for doing the bare minimum right before his death. Kylo Ren received the same (undeserved, because he was a terrible person) treatment.

In Harley Quinn's defense, I think a lot of her popularity had more so to do with her connection to The Joker and how she escaped that toxic abusive relationship for healthy one with Poison Ivy. "Just because it's a good character doesn't mean you have to like them" The very fact you have to mention is stupid. Isn't something you have to learn as a writer is that not everyone will like your character? Trying to make someone like a character doesn't work most of the time, and attacking someone because they don't understand the character or smth will just make them hate the character more.Like no, i still despise Kokichi, and trying to force me to like him won't do shit.

Most of them would go on on about why our favourite characters are trash and describe everything Kokichi has done (excluding the manipulation bcz he's such a cinnamon roll 🥺😍) to tell us that our characters are inferior to Kokichi and excuse all of his actions. That alone should suffice, but knowing that people are using this to silence POC is even worse.

I hate when people think you have to explain your dislike for a character. Totally fine to ask but don’t try to pull it out of me. Honestly same with liking characters. Something else that kinda relates to it is making dumb reasons and using those against people who like the character. I would love a deep dive on Teen Titans and how Robin wasn’t the best leader. Because after re-watching some episodes, I completely agree. He wasn’t a terrible leader and he clearly cared about the team but he did have a sense of superiority and was both controlling, secretive, and did not take criticism well (or get as much criticism as he deserved). Starfire liked him so didn’t call him out much, Raven didn’t seem to really care, and Beast Boy was just a goofy kid who seemed star struck by Robin (who had experience as a sidekick to Batman), but Cyborg was older, more secure in himself, and wasn’t willing to just follow Robin’s lead if he felt like he was wrong.

One thing I noticed in the MLB fandom is how whenever Chloe does something bad, the fans always blame it on the writers, but when Marinette does something bad, you NEVER see anyone blaming the writers for giving her bad writing, they only blame Mari. The fans also love to dumb Chloe's actions down to "harmless annoying jokes" and ignore the effects that bulllying can have on teenagers. Also the POC characters in MLB are either a walking stereotype, relegated to background characters or just poorly written
@Fairygoblet

While I think that Chloe is treated very harshly by the writers, I don't think that Adrian was wrong to stop being friends with her after the writers wrote themselves into a corner. And some of Mari's Worst Behavior just strikes me as a person, probably a man, who doesn't know how to write school girl crushes, writing a school girl crush. I don't think it reflects badly on her character purely because they've written her into a common teenage girl trope that really should burn and die. It's not her fault. My issue is with her controlling tendencies, which appear to actually be getting attention in the show anyway.

I want to talk about this for a second people expect more out of Marinette because she’s the hero of the show (rarely treated as though she is in the wrong) and her flawed behavior has been a problem since the beginning of the show, it’s still bad writing but considering it’s been an established part of her character it’s harder to forgive and in contrast Chloe starts as an antagonist then develops into a bit more of a complex character before that was shut down completely. It’s a matter of expectations. It really started to upset my mental health that something I thoroughly enjoy also has connotations of hate weaved into the plot. I wish tokenism would just not be a thing. I will add that if you are talking about Dick Grayson's Robin, he is actually canonically Romani on both of his parents side. That has been a part of his character for awhile now especially in the comics. He is one of the few Robins that is ethnically non-White like Damian unlike Tim and Jason who are definitely White Robins. It's frustrating how that side of him can be ignored by DC quite a bit, but he is still canonically Romani. It actually adds an extra creepy layer around his interactions with Bruce especially when he was first adopted. But I think Dick being Romani adds an interesting nuance involving his interactions with Cyborg in Teen Titans which were still sooo shitty on his part. Also, yes on everything you said!

@camrolls3144

To fact check here, his mother is Romani. Yes, originally his father was by Devin Grayson, but it was retconned to his mother’s side because of the whole New 52 and Rebirth continuity. (Maybe his relations to the Court of Owls was a part of it? Idk.) I hate that DC ignores this too, I wish they had him talk about his heritage at least once (maybe have him regret not being as connected or remembering what his mother used to practice since he’s canonically not in tuned with Roma culture and it is a closed practice) instead of “You have your mother’s beautiful Romani smile.” To address the whole “Bruce being a creep during early Robin years,” I have to disagree on that. They were firmly Father and Son back in the early days, but only called him his ward because Bruce didn’t want to replace Dick’s parents (also it was the 60s, everything was campy and for the family). Plus, back then, he wasn’t Romani. He was white. In the early 2000s, during Devin Grayson’s run, that was retconned. The problem I have with Devin Grayson’e adding of Dick’s Roma heritage is that she did it to solely sexualize him, making Bruce say discriminatory words about his heritage for “angst points.” (She also ships them. Ew. She got her writing job at DC because she wrote a fanfic and emailed them it-it wasn’t Brudick but still implies) She even changed her last name to Grayson. I wish it’s addition included nuance like what early Marvel writers and some current Marvel writers did to Wanda and Pietro Maximoff in their comics, but alas DC can’t find anyone who can do his culture justice. I hope they do someday. It’s why not many people know he’s a POC.

Just because I like them AS A CHARACTER, doesn't mean I like them as a person. The problem is, when there's no boundary line between a character and a person (*cough* all those people who like male serial killers and want to be them like Joe from You). I mean that's exactly what bias is. Bias influences how we view characters and no one can tell you that you're wrong for how you interpret a character unless you're straight up remixing the character's very existing canon personality and actions (for example people who try to say that Billy from ST wasn't racist when he straight up said that Max shouldn't hang out with Lucas because he was black). I don't like a lot of characters that other people like and that doesn't make me or the other people wrong and I think that there's this huge problem in fandoms with this whole idea of if I don't like this certain media therefore it is fundamentally bad instead of the idea of maybe it's just not for me. A lot of these subjects are nuanced and I like that this topic addresses that not all main characters are going to resonate with everyone. And you don't have to force someone to like your fav character because there are a lot of reasons why someone could dislike someone even in fiction and sometimes you just have to move on. But yeah there's this weird trend of white people being so bold with hating on black characters and straight up admitting to hating them just for being black. Racists are far too comfortable being openly racists and I hate it.

She rarely uses lethal force and when she does it’s usually for a good reason. Her biggest problem is thievery (but can you even steal wealth that was stolen to begin with) but overall I think she’s kind of a chaotic good character, especially recently. She often occupies an anti-hero role and fights for the downtrodden and for animal rights and sex workers etc. I honestly think she’s a better person than batman lol

While Master Fu has a great character, and arc in concept, he comes off as more selfish, and he doesn’t seem to get much development either.

You're right about how people of color don't have to like and don't care about mean white characters. But what if POC (like me, a Latina) don't care about white characters at all?? Depends on which white characters we personally don't give a fuck about. One example I can only think of is Life is Strange 2. Sean and Daniel are two Mexican brothers that faced a lot of racism and threats throughout their journey, but many of these white streamers on KZbin or twitch dismisses their trauma, make fun of the social issues presented in the game like the racist characters and only care more about the white characters with less minutes of screentime, equalling zero personalities and zero character development like Brody, Finn, Cassidy, Chris Eriksen, the Reynolds (the brothers' racist grandparents), Karen (the brothers' mom) and whoever the brothers have met on the road. Many people easily forgave Karen, a white mother - who abandoned her own children and cut them off in their gameplay but had she been a woman of color, she would easily received mix reactions either sympathy or hate - because we know how double standards played when it comes to divorce mothers and fathers, but I think people will still hate her regardless if she were a Mexican mother instead of a Irish mother. People who easily forgiven her doesn't even know what it's like to have parental abandonment issues and lose a parent. I'm sorry, but I'll never forgive her at all, mainly because I have divorced parents and my dad left me when I was 11, so I know what it's like to easily not forgive your parents. And her parents Claire and Stephen (Sean and Daniel's white grandparents and Karen's parents) have always been racist towards/about Esteban (Sean and Daniel's Mexican father), and they said shit about him and his homeland Puerto Lobos even after he died from getting shot by a racist white police officer and he has every right to cut off their racist trump supporting grandparents out of their lives due to familial reasons. POC characters like Sean has every right not to forgive her, same goes for Finn, who's responsible for using a nine year old kid and his power, and being the reasons Sean lost his left eye. I'll never forgive Finn at all, and people who do are likely to because he's white and pan, and you also just invalid a boy of color's feelings. At first, I wanted to kill him off but I couldn't do it because of Daniel, who likes Finn, while Sean canonically doesn't like their friendship. They also could've made Penny, a proud pansexual black boy as Sean's love interest (and age him down to be the same age as Sean), but instead, Sean's love interest are two ugly white hippies with dreadlocks, no canon ages (they're obviously in their 20s and Sinn and Sassidy are pedophilic ships ), and you're not gonna believe how many misogyny tweets the character Cassidy get on Twitter and people love Finn way more but are willing to forgive him for the heist and using Daniel's power so quickly because he was "doing it out of genuine care" but he's actually an unhealthy love interest and manipulative person. It's obvious they're willing to forgive him because he's a white pansexual guy. There's also another white character named Jacob that the fandom thinks he could've been Sean's love interest (and age him down too) but why do they want a young adult white man who's still questioning and confused about his sexual orientation while he's still suffering from a religious trauma from his hometown, and possibly not looking forward to be in a relationship with anyone at the moment because of trauma as Sean's love interest?? Penny is right there, who's out and proud.😭💀 And many white gamers always go for the either of the two U.S. endings just to see their boring, irrelevant white side characters, not caring that they put both Mexican brothers or one of them back in the U.S. still dealing with racism, prison, police brutality, and whatever problems they have to face in the states on a everyday basis. I've always go for the Blood Brothers ending, because as a Mexican girl, I only care about Sean Daniel because they're my priority, the game has always been about their stories, no one else's and idgaf about any of the other side characters in the game.

I know exactly what you are talking about as I used to talk about it on tumblr but I was consistently told that I was making everything about race when for me the fandom doesn't value poc or at least half the fandom doesn't care about poc stories unless it is attached to a sapphic identity. If Max and Chloe were poc and weren't sapphic, shit Life Is Strange would've been left in the dust and that's really fucking disappointing. As someone who likes Karen, Sean and Daniel's mom it's important to not forget the fucking impact she had on her kids and that what she did was fucking hurtful and painful regardless, that it was a somewhat selfish choice she made and that regardless she hurt her kids and that Sean and Daniel do NOT have to forgive her for anything. I personally feel that with Finn, he made a fucked up choice that despite having bad consequences he had good and selfless intentions but even then Sean is allowed to dislike him or hold a grudge because he lost his eye because of the incident and caused more crap to happen. What he did was stupid as hell but he didn't have mean or selfish intentions but honestly it's up to you as the player whether you can find it in you to forgive him. Same with Karen, I personally forgave Karen as I couldn't hate her but if a lot of people didn't they shouldn't be shamed or criticized and we should be allowed to dislike any of these white characters for whatever reasons we want to. I do wish Penny was a romance option and I feel that the rest of the group outside of Cassidy and Finn barely got any attention but some people straight up believe that romance wasn't needed which I kind of agree with. I personally don't like Cassidy because she was set up to be the choice you should go for, the game pushes you onto her consistently to the point in which if you reject her advances or even sex from her she gets pissy and mean about things and that rubbed me the wrong way. I'm not saying Finn is any better but still found that to be gross behavior from her. What irritates me is how people weren't even excited to play for Sean and Daniel's journey, people were excited to see Max and Chloe again and as a result they got more attention than Sean and Daniel the actual protagonists of Life Is Strange 2. Not to mention, it's the fact that people can love someone like Victoria or Chloe but Daniel is too damn annoying for them? Also, I personally blame a lot of the writers and the team in general, as much as I love them their representation for poc has been very wishy-washy, their black characters are often dumbed down, mean, or drug addicts. As well the fact that they will consistently ignore their poc protagonists often in favor of the white sapphic protagonists. Like Alex Chen's love interest is getting more attention tha her, Steph imo shouldn't be getting comics, games, and more attention when Alex hasn't gotten that by herself but DontNod does what makes them money and what pleases the fans. I like them but they will ignore poc and their fans will do nothing but claim you are making everything about race when they will ignore it outright, like Alex is not just a sapphic and her being an asian-american woman should be considered rather than just her sexual identity. Also, the fans will go to bat for Chloe which she wasn't that bad but like I can understand why some people may dislike her and it completely drives me mad that Victoria and Nathan get so much attention, love, and fanart but Sean and Daniel are too boring for them. Sean and Daniel will always have a special place in my heart.

What people don't understand is that in the same way we have comfort characters who we can relate to (ex: I relate to Sailor Venus) or who remind us of people who had a positive impact on our lives (ex: Tamaki from Ouran reminds me of the first boy who treated me like an actual person), we have characters we dislike. I don't like Lila Rossi at ALL because she reminds me of my high school bully, a girl who lied and manipulated things to get her way. However, I wouldn't get mad if someone DID like her because at the end of the day, she's just a fictional character. Using Miraculous as an example again, I understand characters like Chloe were subject to bad writing, I also understand that some of said bad writing was VERY racist and don't expect people of color to like her. I wouldn't want someone to try to change my mind about Lila so I wouldn't change someone's mind about Chloe because it would be hypocritical of me. Fandoms are supposed to provide an escape from reality and trying to force a person to like a character who reminds them of someone who traumatized them or a character who is just downright unlikeable is wrong.

Existing on fandom Tumblr was always annoying because people's racism was so blatant in the way they treated POC characters vs white characters, while portraying themselves as SJW. Going from only Latin-American fan blogs to a site that was mostly populated by Americans really taught me about how different fandom culture was. Don't take me wrong, racism exists everywhere, and it was present in some of the blogs I frequented as a tween. However, when I joined Tumblr, I saw a kind of hypocrisy that was never as blatant in the Latin-American forums I originally participated in. Now that I'm older, I see white youtubers/bloggers have a nostalgia glasses when it comes to early 2010s Tumblr, completely ignoring or omitting how racist some of the fandoms/discussions were. Thus, fan spaces continue festering the same hateful treatment of POC fans and characters without an inch of self-awareness. The same bland call out culture I saw on Tumblr is alive now on twitter and Tik Tok, but far more vicious and with more doxxing involved.

The only two episodes where he has a tangible role ("Enter The Outsiders!" and "Inside the Outsiders!") consist of making him an irrationally angry black kid that has to be talked down to by Wildcat and Batman, two older white superheroes. I can't say that I've read a lot of Black Lightning comics, but the issue of "The Other History of the DC Universe" focusing on his lifestory was a great introduction to his character and makes me hate how they wrote for him in TB&TB.

In most of the MLB fandom, they would blame Alya for "pushing Marinette to Adrien/Luka" literally like she did treason or when she kicked Chat noir to defend herself from being cataclysmed to death but when Chloe does something wrong, they just blame it on "UwU her mother neglects her so that's why she's mean." She hurt so many people, put Paris in danger in this process several times (almost crashed a train), forces her only best friend to run behind her limo like a dog and trap her in a closet to do homework for who knows how long without light or maybe even food/water (slavery), treats her father like a dog, selfishly took her sister who just wanted to protect her go down with her when she was disintegrated by Style queen, almost crushed her classmates to death in that football game but she resisted an akuma, prevented Mayura from taking her miraculous and her mother doesn't like her (she apparently does now in S4 but she hates Zoe) which totally excuses all of her actions and makes her a "girlboss" while they treat Alya, Zoe and Marinette like criminals for the simplest things. This privilege applies to Adrien too but I find him tolerable than Chloe.

Alya deserves more respect among the fan base because she really holds everything together and as much as I like Chloe’s character I wish she was written out of the show in S3 because how the show treats her onwards is really gross. Thomas really needed to push his victim blaming narrative onto a character instead of just getting rid of her like most people would’ve wanted, like, Chloe hardly serves a purpose at this point and her sister only exist to replace her ( which could’ve been a really interesting idea but Zoe is so boring that it drags ). I hope something happens in the movie where she gets better or leaves

There's a reason I side eye white creators critiquing black characters. They like to always preface their critiqued with "I'm not racist just because I don't like this black character" Which is fair on surface (You don't have to like a character esp if they are written to be awful and you are allowed to critique them) HOWEVER a lot of white people don't understand their underlying biases. They'll like a white character for the same personality but when a black character has it all of a sudden that personality is crap and the black character is awful. It's frustrating that because a character has darker skin they aren't allowed to get away with nearly as much as white characters can and the entire fandom will just dog pile them.

I grew up around rich white people my entire life, I don’t think I’ve ever been in a situation where there was a majority of black people in the classroom I was in. One character I cannot stand is the main character from Catcher in the Rye . He was like the worst traits of my most privileged and white classmates condensed into one person. I do not understand why so many people defend his character, he has flaws that you aren’t supposed to ignore. And yet people will read it and say that he’s done nothing wrong partially because he’s white and rich. I wonder if holden was a person of color would he’s character be praised to the same degree or would be hated? It’s praised as being relatable but it only includes a small subset of (white) people in that definition. A lot the problems you discussed about film and TV is present in print media as well.

You're thinking about race too much. Toph isn't liked just because she's white. She's liked because she has a more sympathetic backstory than Korra, while also being a badass regardless when people doubt her due to her blindness. Korra on the other hand, has a less intriguing backstory, and her arrogance isn't balanced as well with good-nature and humour like Toph was. I understand people can have racial biases (and that's fvcking disgusting), but not EVERYTHING is related to race. Like I can't stand characters like Harley Quinn or another example for issues like I'm not really into Enimen's music because the way he sounds just isn't for me. Anytime I tell someone I dislike it, they'd for some reason think I'm being racist. Like why anytime I state an opinion, I end up being called racist? Everyone has they own opinions, dislikes and likes and no one should have to make an explanation for anyone for why they don't like something. Nice video!!!

I really enjoyed this video and it made me think about different white mean girls I’ve seen on screen such as Cassie from Euphoria or Katherine from TVD, while their personalities are different, both characters have fanbases that love these characters, seeing this video made me realize that just because you relate to her doesn’t mean I have to like her, there are even edits praising her behavior which shouldn’t be celebrated, she shouldn’t have to change for a guy, her ex’s abusive boyfriend at that. And as for Katherine, while her backstory is sad and I can empathize with her for that. That doesn’t excuse her for stringing Damon & Stefan along, & I was just watching this video comparing Katherine & Elena, and she made a great point on how she basically assaulted Stefan by compelling him to have s*x with her, giving him no free will, and throughout the seasons she definitely comes off as the crazy ex constantly coming between Stefan & Elena, because he’s found someone else & moved on. Like the movie Not Okay for instance has an unlikeable female protagonist, the movie even throws that in the beginning as a content warning and yet people who are white become angry with those who don’t like her character and say she deserved better, which if you watched the movie, no she doesn’t her sole purpose is to be disliked.

This reminds me of how people were shitting on Chloe Price and Rachel Amber from Life is Strange and were attacking anyone that rightfully calls out David Madsen’s abusive behavior and they keep saying that Chloe was a user and that she didn’t love Max or care about her and that Rachel was a user and that she didn’t love Chloe or care about her and they act like David was right to mistreat Chloe. It also reminds me of how people were shitting on Kenny from Telltale’s The Walking Dead and were attacking anyone that defends him and calls out Jane’s abusive behavior by saying that Kenny was a monster and that he didn’t love Clementine or cared about her.
@DudeCrazy198
@DudeCrazy198 Жыл бұрын
The Kenny is worse than Jane argument is so dumb to me. Kenny is unstable and has done horrible things, I am not denying this. But he actually cared about Clementine and AJ and was willing to sacrifice a lot for them. Jane mostly saw Clementine as a replacement for her little sister. Her plan to bait the mentally ill man into violence to try to get a little girl who cares about him to kill him is just evil. Jane is awful. I don’t know how people think she’s better than Kenny
@asweetbbygoddess8418
@asweetbbygoddess8418 Жыл бұрын
Personally I feel that people had a lot of misgony towards Jane and people consistently praise Kenny despite his flaws and anything that they'd dislike in other characters especially poc characters. Like David from The New Frontier, he was an asshole of course but I can see the similarities between him and Kenny, both always wanna have control over something and always wanna be the leader, they often treat those around them not like equals, and consistently undermine the women in their lives. I like Kenny, he's flawed fucking person but that doesn't mean I have to like how he acts towards people especially Clementine, he essentially put his mental well-being on Clementine's shoulders, she was the one who often had to take care of him, yes she called him out here and there, but as I got older I somewhat got uncomfortable with how he treated Clementine. I don't think he's worse than Jane and I don't believe Jane is worse than Kenny, honestly it's all about what you are willing to put up with or handle, personally I don't like that we brush over Kenny's racist comments and abusive behavior. They both cared about Clementine but I would say in some in unhealthy ways, I prefer Jane as Kenny has a lot of flaws that irritate me more than Jane's, but even then Kenny stans for me have always been more annoying than fucking Jane stans which are almost gone at this point. I'm not saying you can't like Kenny, I just see the man as flawed and find of fucked up, he annoyed me and irritated me with his "my way or the highway" bullshit. What irritated me even more was how people had so much hatred towards poc characters and the female characters and will consistently love and praise Kenny, Kenny and David Madsen are too similar for me and I personally don't like that. Also, people will hate characters like Tenn, Sarah, and Gabe but will gloss over Kenny's racist statement towards Lee as well as his xenophobia towards Arvo. I love Kenny because I view him as a flawed and realistic character but some of fans act like he's this good guy who can do no wrong. I personally don't like how the fandom loves to see both Kenny and Jane as a black and white rather than seeing their nuances and allowing people to like or prefer whoever, both have their problems and Kenny's shouldn't be glossed over because he was given time to be fleshed out. David Madsen is an abusive dickhead who doesn't understand boundaries at all and consistently treats Chloe and other young women like crap, he bullies them and harrassed them and people were fine with it because he saved Max once which is fucking weird. One good choice doesn't absolve you from a lifetime of shit choices, I don't like and fuck with David Madsen and he was a straight up controlling dickhead who Joyce let walk all over her and her daughter. Which is gross. Chloe didn't have great parents at all besides maybe William.
@asweetbbygoddess8418
@asweetbbygoddess8418 Жыл бұрын
I feel people really love Chloe, not saying she doesn't get critique or hate that she's undeserving of but like people hated on Rachel for basically having a life outside of Chloe and for revolving her entire identity outside of Chloe. Rachel wasn't a perfect person, she was flawed as fuck, and it was seemingly mean that she considered leaving Chloe behind but even then she had to think about herself and what she wanted and if she would achieve her dreams on her own then she would. Rachel and Chloe most of time aren't treated as nuanced people and don't treat them as teen girls still dealing with shit, I used to be someone who hated Chloe and I used to criticize her a lot without seeing the nuance in her. I understand her more now and imo both don't deserve death or are as a bad as some people made them out to be especially when you consider the adults they were around. Like Rachel did not cheat on Chloe, they were not in a relationship and I feel that people ignore that Frank was a grown ass man like in his 30's with an obsession with a teenage fucking girl and people wanna blame Rachel when Frank was the fucking weird one. I am personally uncomfortable with the writers making a potential groomer softer or showing that he's not that bad when he's fucking obsessed with a teenage girl and likely was grooming said teenage girl. People don't like seeing women and poc as flawed people and they often have to be more likable than a cis white man who is given more grace and forgiveness than women and poc.

Personally, I like more immoral characters in media as a character that is written well into the story, but not really as a person. In the sense that they are supposed to be a villain, even if they are considered the main character (Ex. Light from Death Note). As long as the story treats them as actual villains who get realistic consequences along the way, it's not frustrating. Though I understand completely why people would hate a character. I'd like to be interested in just analyzing them in a literary English class way from afar, but if I met them in real life, I wouldn't actually want to be friends with them. People who like a character like that in a way that they would actively support them or even talk to them if they ever existed in real life is just strange. People seem to romanticize violence, abuse, toxicity, rudeness and cruelty as "cool," "strong" or "sexy," even. Maybe it's just because I'm on the spectrum, but I've always seen things in a very direct straightforward way. If someone acts consistently nice without constantly contradicting that in action and words, then they're nice. If someone acts openly cruel, not so subtly manipulative or find a lot of pride in being an asshole, then bad actions means a bad person. I don't try to look within for a "nicer guy" inside the bad boy, or the "bad boy" inside the responsible and polite A+ kid. It doesn't matter what the intentions are. Good actions = Good person. Bad actions = Bad person. People have a mix of both, yes, but people clearly have a leaning to one or the other. Why don't people just think straightforwardly this way? I don't get it, but it's why I tend to watch cultural analysis videos of pop culture, classic literature, internet culture, or anything similar to see how this works.

I’ll take it a step further and say black people don’t even need a justification for why they don’t like a character. Even if the character is an amazing ally, that doesn’t mean they’re necessarily likable to everyone. Some people are going to have personalities that they don’t like for whatever reason, even if that character is “unproblematic.” I feel like Black people are expected to justify their dislike of someone with a dissertation and a 2 hour slide show when they shouldn’t have to.

The exaggeration was very unnecessary but tbh people need to put thought and effort in their opinion if they want it to be respected, if you don't put effort into it and thought then you can't really expect other ppl to do that when you yourself don't, everybody should justify their believes and everyone should complain about bad reasoning or lack of reasoning, its bad criticism, which should be addressed.

The entire point is that she's a villain and EVERYONE in the show is one, and the villains are the focus, as opposed to the DC heroes. Of course when it comes to comic books universe you got so many different versions and takes, and I'm sure some versions of Quinn applies to this, but it kinda feels unfair or missing the point to say people like her and let her get away with stuff because she's white when the entire show revolves around villain characters and their stories and lives. You don't have to like her, very fair, but the point is we like her AS a villain, because that is what she is, the Harley Quinn show shows her, and all the rest of the main cast, as such.
