We got a $30 raise for COLA, and they took $50 from the OTC benefits , or raise the premium It happens every time, so the "raise" isn't worth even getting
@profosborne450120 сағат бұрын
@nanhand99 This is the way it was when I was still working also. Insurance would go up, company would give some of that cost back as a raise, but typically it was just enough or even less than the increase. Point being that it's not just SS recipients that feel their raise is just absorbed each year.

If the SS COLA is raised above the regular COLA, this is what will happen: Many low-income seniors will get their income raised just enough to where they no longer qualify for SNAP (food stamps), Medicaid, and other means-tested federal benefits. Those benefits are worth a lot more than getting an extra 1 or 2 percent COLA each year. Depending on the individual it would take many, many years before they equal out.

They can keep my 23$ month in food stamps if they give me a 4% cola
@turtlesauce686017 сағат бұрын
Yep - every year, the COLA puts me over the income limit for the state medicaid and extra help programs that pay for my cancer treatment. Those new income limits don't come out until Feb/March, and the gap between them gets smaller every year. Luckily, the medicaid people are aware of this and look the other way for those couple months. But I have so many different programs they kinda clash and cause more problems, but I can't get rid of any of them because if I don't accept everything that qualify for, I get nothing at all. It's so sick how this country punishes people for getting sick, or disabled, or old.

So why did the income cap go up by 4.4%? How do they calculate that?
@turtlesauce686017 сағат бұрын
But what exactly are the items in that basket of goods? Does it take into account rents that are skyrocketing, or the fact that now the corporate landlords are requiring that you have an income of 2 1/2 times the amount of that skyrocketing rent? Are they assuming that everyone owns their home? I'm not a senior, I'm on Disability/Medicare/Medicaid/SLMBY because I'm a cancer patient. I never got to own property. I'm capable of earning more, but not enough to afford my treatment that costs over $20K a month (only in this country). I'm forced to live in a vehicle where the slumlords are gouging me with doubled electricity and propane bills, and the mold is making me sicker. I'm not allowed to earn 2 1/2 times the rent! This is causing so much homelessness, not addiction! And they just criminalized homelessness. It doesn't have to be this way! They should be taking into account what the rents and utility and grocery costs are in the area where you live, not a national average. But that would take too much time, right? How much money does it cost to run all these bureaucracies that exist to exclude people from getting healthcare? What if that money was put towards universal healthcare, after we put the same kind of restrictions on big pharma that other countries do, and get rid of the useless pharmacy benefit managers and other middlemen? But no, it's profits over humanity in this sick country, no matter what side is in charge. This country is creating the poverty/homeless crisis. The income limits are just cruel.

Well, that's a yes and no really. A spouse who is a homemaker and did not work 40 quarters can draw off of their spouse's record as spousal support or survivors benefits IF person to whom they are married worked their 40 quarters (10 years not necessarily continuous). If a single person never works 40 quarters (and thus there is no spousal or survivor benefits available) then they cannot draw SS benefits.

Watch out Dr. Ed, in addition to the impersonation scammer, you also now have some crypto scammers that are showing up in your comment section as a group. One person will post claiming he's made a lot of money, and somebody else in the gang then pretends to ask a question about how, and additional members of the gang/sock puppet accounts will pile on, and eventually it leads to somebody posting a WhatsApp or Telegram phone number, directing people to some scammer. I'm gonna report the whole group.

For everyone: It all comes down to practicing good cyber hygeine. It's the same pattern as @Taken Took indicated above, for the most part, that are all over many a KZbin video. Sometimes there will be slight variations in the tactic used. For example, the initial post will start more more subtly to draw you in, by appearing to have an opinion on the subject of the video; then the thread will ultimately devolve. It's all variouss Social Engineering techniques that will try to play on your emotions, in an attempt to get you to give up personal information. Bottom line, folks: If it sounds too good to be true... DON'T FALL FOR IT!

@@jonp4846 -- Additional clues are that they all seem to have a stock photo or AI generated image of an attractive person or couple for the account, some of the names are a little questionable but sound like common American names to people who are non-native English speakers (think something along the lines of "Wilhelmina Betsy" or "Jimothy Ted") and they will use odd syntax in some of their sentences (like "I have very much too had good money success with ______ and you should do well to call her now!")
