@@mikecameron6667 I’m about to start a full fledged immature rant on why this statement is wrong, if you play the games, you realize master chief is a stoic, silent, respectful individual, the show brutally assassinated his character, the show turned him into a rebellious, talkative, shouty moron. But more on your statement, the reason we hate to see him without his helmet is because not only does it disrespect the character and everything he’s been for the past two decades, its also utterly useless and the “emotion” they try to portray is just him being whiny or angry, it’s not master chief. You don’t even need to read the novels to understand who he is, halo doesn’t always need to revolve around him, Halo 3 ODST displayed this perfectly, it made the player enjoy the fresh take on the halo universe and find interest in character not known in the games. The show could have gone with that route, but we got a politically correct, utterly garbage, non canon joke of a show. I’m never going to see it as Halo, it’s a fan fiction set in the halo universe the show writers want, not what’s established, I’m no longer giving paramount my money or attention, that’s one way to destroy my interest.

Also, it pays off in Halo 2, because the covenant attacked during a ceremony where SGT Johnson told him to wear something nice. Also, of course he has weird Stockholm syndrome over the whole situation, he is one of the main reasons that the humans didn’t lose the war against the covenant, which would’ve spelled death for all sentient life in the entire fucking galaxy. If you were in that situation, you would probably excuse the horrible treatment because you would’ve been dead before retirement age anyways, along with everyone you know and love.

Right? Like it's sort of like when you're watching a really good video essay on something you know absolutely nothing about. You go in with little to no intention of taking in the media the essayist is talking about, but their enthusiasm and downright love of the thing gets you interested. I sorta knew about the plot of the series, and i'm used to hearing about military sci-fi from my old roomate who loved honor harrington, so those middle trilogies sound actually pretty neat.

I think the progression of BDG from "funny guy losing his mind from taking things too seriously" to "man haunted by an unknowable cosmic force forcing him to try to comprehend everything on an absurdly deep level" was actually a slow enough build that I didn't even notice the change all that much until the show was over and I started rewatching unrevaled episodes out of order.

To add onto why the K-5 trilogy is so good; they're just fun reads. They detail some really cool concepts and sequences and all of the chatacters are actually quite well-done and distinct. Naomi, the Spartan, especially shines here; she's successfully depicted as deeply damaged and asocial owing to her upbringing while simultaneously forming very quick bonds with her military brethren, allowing for the relaxed interactions and occasional one-liners that made Spartans like Chief so personable in the first few Halo games. Basically she's not a shell, but rather a deeply damaged yet rounded out _person._
