i also think another reason why nicki has been losing support is the fact that she has been consistently supporting sex offenders, and considering her fanbase largely consists of young women, it's hardly any wonder that they would be turned off by that

Can confirm as a former “Barb”. That also pretty directly explains why Tekashi hasn’t been “cancelled”. Unlike Nicki, he’s cultivated a community of people who don’t actually care about an artists character and reputation, the way she has. Nicki’s fans feel connected to her personally. So watching her take a big old doodoo on us by being all buddy-buddy with people who remind us of our own abusers has led a lot of us to withdraw our support 🙃

didn’t she literally marry a sex offender, too? she definitely dated him and tried to say he’d “changed”.

Also her own brother has been accused of sexually abusing his step daughter and that's been unjustly barely talked about in the press. Maybe she's been paying news outlets off to not talk about it, or they've been too preoccupied with Trump and the pandemic, I don't know. But she posted his bail and has been very supportive of him.

Macklemore was well-intentioned if nothing else, but in hindsight, I kinda get the vibe from him that some might've gotten from Arrested Development 20 years earlier - really more 'feel good' music that (WHITE) audiences saw as an escape from the rising trap scene of '12 and '13. The proof of that is in how despite radio pushes for two of his 2017 singles ("Glorious" & "Good Old Days"), those songs did not really go places.

Cancelling has an inversely proportional relationship to guilt. It gets easier to cancel people the less they deserve it.
@nomobobby3 жыл бұрын
I think the problem is not everyone holds the same standards. As much as I would love to this clown get thrown out for one conviction or another he's gotten already, people like the threatening tone too much for that. They are not going to help 'cancel' him, there just going to blast it even louder to p*ss off his "haters" and enjoy the show while it lasts. You can't effectually cancel people by just screaming how terrible they are. Especially when the artist leans into it. The best you can do is ignore it and don't let it bother you. I saw the same story play out with Chris Brown, and we're likely going to see the same here. Namely no one gets "cancelled" until their hour in the spotlight dies, and that only happens when they stop pleasing the fans or they move on to someone else. Which is why Mackle is no more and Iggy got thrown out radio instead of this trash. Don't dance and rap for the public well enough and you're getting thrown out of the same revolving door you entered.
