Wáaaaw Sir Yung Chen, especially the first 2 min 30 (but the rest of this vìd too) really áwesome skill, took mý breath away thàt's the result of disciplined training and training and training anď .,,, fantastic !!! Beside, you're also a wonderfully §killed, very good teacher, providing mé very strong and robust fundaments for my portraits! TY so much for your many vid's) Besides, you look so humble + frienďly + 'ÞHE ASIAN SMILE' ...

Cool 😀 A véry happý NY too Ì really intend to make some portraits this year (= my newyearwish) ... and for this, your teachings are really invaluable. I try to dò portraits a bit ĺike the formidable Vincent Van Gogh learned añd did it so admirably: first, there ha§ to be an exact likeness ... but then -only!- it really begins: I tŕy to éxpress myself as clear as possible (e.g. without unnessesary details and with strong expresssion) and I want to enhance and make stronger the colours ... arbitrary colours if I think the painting needs it (FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION) So, first I want to have an exact likeness with thé right proportions as thé strongest possible fundament to build my work on ... and for this your many lessons here on YT are really so ... fundamentally, crucially invakuable. Really, I can't thank you enough for this all ... it's like you saved my life (kind of, of ciurse) ♉ and 😀

You are one of the finest artist I'v seen, idk how this video got just 20k views, anyway...what kinda vine charcoal is that? Its more like auto shading when you did the face part, also other areas, very soft with hands, Mine are like permanent markers lol...Thanks for teaching how to do the basic-pro shading with vine :)

How do you keep your charcoal from degrading(like where there is no point) while working, do you have multiple sticks you are picking up, or? This seems to be my problem when I use vine charcoal.

Whats the best way for a 43 to improve his drawing skills which he hasnt used since highschool but would really like to get back into it. Besides youtube and trial and era?

Open to a little advice from a learner? Some things that have really helped me...Draw something every day. Obviously this will improve your skill, but also show areas where you need to focus on more [or even less]. Do an honest critique of your work to use that as a focus for what to try to improve on with your next session. Use a proportional divider- this helps get the proportions right as you progress in the drawing [and saves a ton of frustration]. Be willing to do exercises that you think are 'below' you. I do acrylic painting, and there's a little apple tutorial on the Plaid channel which I thought was 'below me' and I'll be danged if I still can't get that right! There's probably the equivalent of an art degree's worth of education on youtube. Consider doing a patreon of whatever artist fits your genre. I haven't personally done this yet, but it's not very much money and you'll get where you want to be faster. Yong Chen here is very talented and skilled; but 1 of many. Hope this is helpful : )

It is interesting. But this is "fest food" in drawing. In order to learn how to draw a portrait, you need a deep knowledge of the spatial design of the form and practice. Lots of practice. Do not deceive yourself. For 10 minutes no one will learn to draw even a cube or sphere... even a straight line

CH DEEPAK what is your measure of perfection? I am assuming that it is reality. Only a camera can copy reality. Art is not about perfect copies of reality

CH DEEPAK scetches aren't supposed to be perfect. Final portraits are supposed to be perfect. She probably just wanted a quick sketch done so she could stand there for 15 minutes instead of 2 hours lol
