We reach the final destination of our road trip, the Algarve and take a swim in the sea (which was full of stringy seaweed!). Jonny and I also visit my family who were on holiday in the Faro district (Vila Nova de Cacela), it was super nice to see them. We enjoyed a lovely 3 course meal at the Chá Com Água Salgada restaurant on the beach front of Praia da Manta Rota and a nice 2 night stay at Quinta da Bornacha.

I am Portuguese, but I have to recognise that, particularly when we drive, we do not always respect the rules of the game. So, if I was driving a motorcycle, I would be especially cautious, even when the traffic is not very intense. You never know what type of surprise you could find in the next corner. It is better to be safe than sorrow. Good luck and a good journey.

Hi Jonny and Sam! Good to see that you reach Algarve without Sam running out of fuel on her bike 😅 As you mentioned in the video, the road from Évora to Cacela Velha/Algarve it's definitely the "worst" part of the journey, but meeting your family and having a nice meal at the beach as a reward compensated the effort 😃 Can't wait for the next video! Abraço 😃

Hey David 😃 thanks for watching. Hehe I’ve got to say it’s not the best when it comes to fuel economy + tank size vs distance travelled 😅 oh for sure and there were some great bits of road too, such a nice little section when we reached the Algarve sign in this video. Awh thanks so much for staying tuned 😃 Abraço também

Hi @jonnyandsamofficial it was probably me that commented on the bananas before, LOL. Anyway the best bets for growing edible bananas where your are: "Java blue" or "Ice cream" banana (in fact the ones in your video might have been that), "California gold" and "Dwarf Orinoco". These varieties can tolerate some degree of frost, but if you want fruit you'd probably want to protect the main stem from frost if possible (e.g. a heavy wrap of burlap, or some people use bubble wrap as well). Probably the easiest edible bananas where you are, however, but very seedy, would be another species: Musa velutina or "pink dwarf banana". Musa basjoo you could grow easily without any protection, but it does not produce edible bananas (very tropical-looking and attractive, though).

I think it might have been Tony 🤭 we really appreciate the information again I’ve taken a screenshot and saved it 👍 we have seen Java Blue mentioned here but Ice cream sounds like a tasty one 🤤 we’d prefer food givers over ornamental but not ruling them out as we have considered palm trees 🌴 for their look 😃
@tonynunes4965
@tonynunes4965 11 ай бұрын
@@jonnyandsamofficial actually "Java blue" and "Ice cream" are just 2 diff names for the same variety 🙂. Completely agree on preferring food-producing vs just ornamental. There is actually at least one palm you can grow in Fundao that does produce edible fruit: the jelly or pindo palm (Butia odorata although often called Butia capitata).

Thanks so much 😃 we are going to do a construction update soon as we have had a recent update from our architect who will be doing our swimming pool plans as well as the house as it all has to be licensed. For now we have the little Bestway pool which we’ve enjoyed from time to time in this heat. Awh thanks so much and thanks for watching 😃👍

1:18 - Yeah, the IC1 is a bit boring (to put it mildly), especially for motorcyclists. It has one very interesting landmark if you're a Metal fan, though: the km 666. 🤘🤘 😄 2:20 - The mountainous part of the Algarve has one of the best twisties I've ever ridden on. My favourite is the São Marcos da Serra part of the IC1 but the road from Odemira to Lagos is also very good. The route you took (IC27) didn't exist yet when I went to Tavira in August 2003* but that year I drove there, anyway. 🙂 12:40 - You had to do it, didn't you? 🤣 *- Off topic: it was the year of the climate turning point, things have never been the same since then. When we left Torres Novas it was overcast, with some rain and thunderstorms. We arrived at the hotel in Tavira in the afternoon and went straight to the beach because it was very hot. When we got back, circa 8 PM, there were a bunch of guests gathered around the TV, watching the country burn on the news: some of the thunderstorms started wildfires that spread uncontrollably in many areas, fuelled by intense wind. I left the car in the hotel's underground garage during the night and the next day at 9 AM it was still (or already) 30ºC outside. When we came back a week later, some of the green areas where we passed on our way down were completely scorched and still smoldering. I have such a vivid memory of that year's events that I'll never forget them for the rest of my life.

What an interesting comment, thanks for watching and for your message 😎 We aren’t metal fans but I still tried to google km 666 and all that came up was a film on Netflix 🤔 Yes we had a short burst of twisties on our route but we’ll be back and we’ll make a note of the roads you mention. Haha! Couldn’t help myself 🤭 Was this in 2003? What a dramatic story. I hope no one was harmed but it sounds bad.

Just binge watching a bit, this morning 😊 Do you prefer the soft bags over hard cases? I liked using hard panniers when I was riding around Germany and Italy. Felt more secure. But I guess it depends where you're riding. If thieves want it they'll take it. 12:46 love it😅😂 The race of two legendary bikers! Well done 🎉💪🏍🛵🎊🏆🎈 14:31 cool resort.

Excellent 😃 we really hope you have a speedy recovery ❤️‍🩹 Yeah we prefer the soft panniers. We haven’t had any problems so far I imagine they’re less waterproof being soft but we’ve ridden in torrential rain 🌧️ and been fine 😃 What do you ride? Haha yeah it was funny to watch 🤭 Lovely resort, quite pricey though. Most of Algarve is tbh

@@jonnyandsamofficial I had a kawasaki ninja/ex500 back in the late 80s driving around Germany , southern Triol and Italy. Now I was thinking of getting a Royal Enfield Himalayan for our scouting and supply runner. Would love to get a Janus Motorcycle Gryffin but only if I can get the studio to pay for it. Thanks for the well wishes. I'm hoping it will only take 3 months to walk again. In about 2 weeks I'm getting a cool knee scooter to push around the house in.🦼🛵🚲🤣
