In this video Adam teaches you how to be powerful from the top of your swing while emphasizing to stay connected in the downswing. A fan favorite drill of the channel is the Hideki drill where there is a slight pause at the top. This drill synchronizes the backswing in order to have a nice buttery downswing. Adam teaches Kyle how to be his strongest while at the top of the swing, gaining distance while maintaining connection!

I have a little hitch at the top of my backswing where I reach back just a little bit more with my arms and shoulder turn and steepen the club. I've worked forever to try and eliminate it or make it less destructive to my downswing, but I eventually realized that it's not actually a part of my backswing, it's basically a momentum gathering thing I naturally do to start the downswing. Sort of like if I were to hold a baseball up next to my head, the first move I would make to throw it would be moving my arm back to gather momentum, rather than just pushing forward like a shotput. So even when I tried shortening my backswing, or reducing my turn to not go past 90 degrees, or initiating shift into my lead side much much sooner in my backswing, I would still, no matter what I did, see that little steepening hitch. It's basically where my arms and shoulders think they need to go in order to move the club with any sort of speed. Pause swings with an emphasis of motoring the swing without changing the good structure I can get into at the top have started to help me eliminate this issue. One thing I've noticed is that I really have to stabilize with my core and torso at the top to avoid my arms wanting to separate too much like they would if I were throwing a ball. Or sort of as you say, I'm loading the core earlier or differently... I think my tendency was to stretch and load the core by separating the arms and hands after getting to the top of the backswing, vs winding up the torso properly prior to that. I suppose so much of golf improvement is relative to the way we naturally want to use our muscles to put force into the club.

This video is a perfect example of what Lee Trevino said "You do not hit the ball in your backswing the club has to stop and change direction So why have a quick backswing"

Every lefty swing I've ever seen just looks so smooth and athletic. Not sure why that is but I've never seen a lefty with an awkward swing.

Yes, i agree, play with a 3 handicap guy, a leftie, every week, his tempo is something else, effortless.

Your video instruction on mechanics is the best I have found. It has given me the keys to hit the hot cut and baby draw over the last six months or so. I am now working on just keeping the tension out of the swing and when I do the default shot is a nice baby cut. Now that I have reduced the tension in the swing and think 80% effort the ball is carrying farther and the accuracy has improved. Can you do a lesson on working on mechanics while maintaining feel and eliminating tension. I turn 68 this month and will play in the Washington State Senior and Super Senior Amateur Championship 9/20-22/22 and I feel like I have the tools to win it this year. Thanks for all you do for improving the game. Your instruction is priceless...

That is awesome! Thank you so much for sharing! This is why we say the rhythm is the glue that keeps the golf swing together, because that’s what you’re talking about rhythm. The effortless power we find when our body is tension free and the club is doing more work than we are! Bravo! We can definitely address this! Thank you so much for watching!

@@PorzakGolf Yesterday, in my practice session I think I finally got what you mean by initiating the swing by pushing the hands down and back along the feet to CP 1 with the left shoulder (it keeps the body/arm connection tight). Once to CP 1 the left shoulder can be turned back to the right foot to fully cock the catapult. This allows me to keep the left shoulder under my chin better and consequently be able to swing the club underneath me. I am one of those with fast hips and the club gets behind me; therefore, I start the downswing with my hands and arms keeping my right hip back and back to the target as long as possible. I feel like I trap and catapult the ball down the line with this move and it helps get the right elbow on the right pocket. What is golden in your KZbin teaching is once you have good grasp of the mechanics one can use your drills and a tripod and iPhone to maintain consistency. I was thinking of getting an online or personal instruction from you, but that is a tough ticker since you are in great demand and have limited time.

Like your simple explanations. I tend to get in the lower body stalling and arms overtaking and left/hooks appear with little power. Any solution, or just make better effort to move lower body

Hi Adam. In the modern swing, is the right elbow or left knee/left hip starting down before the completion of the back swing? This is showing my age possibly with this question. Thank you in advance. Gordon Scotland.

Technically it’s the left knee, but most 95% of humans need to FEEL it’s the elbow first! Thank you watching from Scotland Gordon! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 have you seen the video with William Alexander, he’s a 16 Yr old young Scottish star! Check him out!

On this drill where is the weight at the top/during the pause? 50/50? Slightly on lead side or trail?

Hey Jesse. When doing the hip bump, we should feel like our lead leg is a post! So to answer your question there should be slightly more weight on our lead leg! If you have more questions about the hip bump, check out our past videos. We also have another Hip Bump video coming out on Monday 👀

I am really confused with this one. No downward bend on the downswing? No back knee towards front knee near release and contact? This guy was standing like a statue.
