Lake Mungo was probably one of my favorite movies I watched in 2020. Truly a fantastic film... I'm so glad I went into it without knowing anything about it and I'm so glad I did because I believed it was real all the way until the end.

Me too, I didn’t know anything about it and it was the first movie since “the ring” to legit scare me . I mean like , the kind of movie you think about for awhile after and still get the chills thinking about it . The shinning , the ring and lake mungo lol

Omg yes!! Lake mungo scared the shit out of me , like my heart was pounding and everything. Only 2 movies have done that to me , the shinning and the ring .love that movie

I had to pause Lake Mungo every 20 minutes the first time I watched it. It was so suspenseful and the way they used more amateur actors really sold it. I thought they could've done without the side story involving the neighbors and the sex tape, tho.

I loved 10 Cloverfield lane and watched it within the past year for the first time. I will definitely check out The Shallows due to your recommendation. the Orphan' movie is based on real events. I recommend delving into the sotry of Children from Kurim, which took place in the Czech Republic in 2007.

Just discovered your channel and love it. I'm a big fan of Spooky Astronauts too. I've been doing a Letterboxed video every month for a couple of years. I switched to 1 a week starting in 2021 as they just got too damn long. I'm a massive horror fan too and honestly, don't give a second thought to anything anyone thinks about what you watch. Watch what you feel like. Mine have allsorts in! Love Possessor, Dark Water, Devil all the time & Lake Mungo and have added Take Shelter to my list.

I just bought Orphan after not seeing it since it came out. I watched it like four times when my parents rented it from Blockbuster back in the day. This video makes me wanna re-watch it and see if I still love it! Have you ever thought about doing a "if you didn't like this try this" video? Like if you didn't like how a movie did its plot then you recommend a movie that did the concept better? For example, Get Out (i know you loved it), if you didn't like it recommend other horror that focuses on racial issues/racism?

This was fun! I have to say it's nice to see your grades on letterboxd. Really glad you liked The Blob! That is one of the most fun and rewatchable '80s horror films IMO. Lake Mungo is on Amazon Prime and Possessor is on Hulu for anyone looking to check those out.

My dad let me watch The Blob when I was about 4 or 5 and it scared the living shit out of me. I was terrified of sinks for so long and would call it “the mean jello”

That's wild - when I was about that age I watched the OG ghostbusters (slightly less traumatizing lol) but there was a scene where Slimer comes through a girls tub faucet and that made me nope the f*** out of having baths for a loooooooooong time and I said it was scary jello!!!

So glad you watched the blob remake. It’s one of the best remakes ever imo. Like you said the practical effects are amazing but I also liked how the suppose nice guy was actually a decoy protagonist to the real one, a delinquent biker lol. Plus Amanda from the saw movies is the main girl in the blob movie XD

I love The Blob! I feel it gets unfairly forgotten but it fits perfectly in a triple feature with The Thing and The Fly as similarly titled films released around the same period that are superior remakes and all have excellent gory practical effects and body horror elements.

Take Shelter is one of my all-time favourite movies. It makes me sob. As for genre, I think how you categorise it depends on how you view the ending. The director said that he intentionally left it open to interpretation. So for some it is a horror/apocalypse, for others, it isn't. Love your monthly wrap ups.

Lake Mungo is one of the deepest, most mind bending horror films I’ve ever seen. It explores the afterlife, mortality, identity, grief. I am just so obsessed. Just the concepts explored make me feel anxious

• 3:39 - _Melancholia_ is an even slower burn (read more boring). _The Remaining_ (2014) is more apocalyptic (and less preachy than the various _Left Behind_ adaptations). But my recommendation is _These Final Hours_ (2013). • 7:25 - No, _Take Shelter_ is most definitely not a horror, or thriller, or even sci-fi; it's just a (good) drama… with a twist. - It's not underrated, quite the opposite, those who have seen it generally like it. It's just underexposed. • 8:57 - I'd even say the American remake of _Dark Water_ is better; it's still slow, but it's very atmospheric. _The Black House_ (1999) is a similar but better Japanese horror movie to _Dark Water._ It's weird the Elisa Lam case happened _after._ 🤔 • 9:30 - Japanese horror tends to be water based because Japan's an island at the mercy of the ocean. But why all the hair?🤔 • 10:00 - I'd rather re-watch _Frailty_ to _Devil All the Time._ • 10:49 - I'm still waiting for _Cadaver._ I hope it's better than _Darkness in Tenement 45._ But then, how could it not be? ¬_¬ • 12:06 - _3022_ sounds like _Sunshine_ (2007), but Sunshine has even more drama. • 14:40 - _Joshua_ (2007) pairs really well with _Orphan_ (2009). 😉 Both kids were great. (Also, Vera Farmiga is in both.) • 15:37 - What's ridiculous about it? There have been real cases of adults with that condition passing themselves off as kids. • 17:12 - _Open Water_ was boring, they even made up most of it and still couldn't make it interesting. _The Shallows_ was weird because they managed to stretch it out without making it too absurd. Even _47 Meters Down_ somehow worked. • 18:02 - * _The Cellar._ It had _nothing_ to do with _Cloverfield_ no matter how much J.J. Lamebrams pretends it does. 😒 • 18:06 - Hmm, I wonder what unrelated movie is being re-titled to masquerade as a Cloverfield movie now. 🤔 • 18:33 - Do you like _47 Meters Down: Uncaged_ ?
