Power Failure in Pakistan: Does Solar Help?

Pakistan has faced multiple national grid breakdowns in the past 2 years but no one is held accountable for it. This is no joke for a country with the 5th largest population in the world.
It seems our national institutions who we pay every month to prevent this have a non-serious attitude so what can we do in our individual capacities? I also discuss whether solar can help during events like these and how my system held up to 12+ hours of power outage.

Yes, Our 4 kw Hybrid Solar system did helped a lot. In yesterday's outage, It supported uninterruptable supply for above 24hours without Grid power (Full usage of all household equipment's (220v) including Water Boring machine, Ironing, Washing machines etc in DAY timings & controlled usage [lights/few devices/fridge only] in NIGHT). indeed, Solar is blessing! *** Alhamdolillah ***

Dear, im in the same shoes as you, I'm back from Canada after 14 years. I knew the challenges, especially electricity supply. I have installed 12kw hybrid system a few months ago, and it did well in yesterday's power outage. I'm glad that I installed a hybrid system. The surplus power goes to the gird, and I see a credit in my monthly bills.

Dear Owais Beta, AOA! As always, great video. Hard facts. I have a 3kw hybrid inverter system in my home which served well. Electricity outage lasted from 0730 hrs to 2100 hrs. But the Govt will always not support net metering because of the fact that cost of electricity which they charge keeps their wheel rotating. My small capacity system has more than halved my bills.

This power breakdown was a big scare for the IT industry. This is because all if not most software houses have offices in commercial areas or buildings where they cannot afford to have solar or a generator. Instead, we have to rely on the grid's power or the backup generator of a building (if they even have one). My question is how can the IT industry become power independant? Even if that was possible, the internet is another issue.

IT Companies should shift to Buildings or Rental spaces which offer Solar Power and Back Generators to their Tenants. Using Solar Power can be a big business enhancing opportunity. An IT Company can proudly mention in their Business Proposals to clients (letter head, website, Social Media etc.), that they use Renewable (Green Energy) for all their development work. Soon, there will be benefits given to companies who are using Green energy. I was thinking about your videos all the while the power was gone. Happy to see your upload. Even generators have failed now because fuel is substandard despite being crazy expensive. Solar is indeed the way to go now. My brand new laptop almost got destroyed due to power surge last year, but despite smoke coming out of its adapter the laptop survived. From security, power, water, gas, sewage, and so many other things one has to be self-sufficient now. I have a feeling that such nationwide outages will become longer and more frequent now. In crazy summer heat, it will become unbearable. Now even the elites are feeling the pinch. I hope everyone who is in power learns the right lessons out of the current crisis.

I think 2022 gave a real boost to people with solar as their return on investment accelerated in that year alone due to increase in electricity prices (PKR 8 increment excluding GST!). I think the formula for calculation is number of units generated during the year X PKR 40 (inclusive of GST). My system in 2022 generated 15,500 kwh x 35 = ~550,000. Half cost recovery of system in 1st year!

can anyone give me clear good answer??? I have local pure sine ups .. neautral is common with the wapda neautral in home wiring.. In this case wapda meter is counting units???Rumor is circulating in our society...but in my opinion This is the impossible circuit because Neautral and phase should be come from same source to operate And run Loads... I run a big hostel....16k watt system is placed...light went early in the morning at 7am...solar panel worked for 8 hours without any issue...at 5pm the batteries were playing its role..for an hour batteries worked well but after that they went to zero as they couldnt hold the load of so many lights and laptops chargers at the hostel...after that gernaitor started working for only 3 hours...the light came at 12am😀...if the solars were not installed i might had so many problems...regarding buying fuel for gernaitor or it might hve stoped working for such huge breakdown...solars saved me...👍👍👍

I think one of the biggest problems in public sector is sheer lack of quality. Whether products or services, we just cannot deliver quality. And we believe that public sector institutions are probably unable to match the quality of private sector. Secondly, as consumers we have just become complacent over time and do not even claim our right anymore. As you mentioned in one of your earlier vlogs, in power distribution sector, there is no competition either unlike internet services where because of some competition due to private sector, consumer does get some kind of respite.

And rightly said, in a country where government cannot even ensure uninterrupted power in these times, nobody is gonna waste their time and investment to start an industry. A 12 hour unannounced power failure can cause a loss of millions if not billions to an export industry besides a reputation setback where the producer would be unable to deliver on promised products or services and lose returning business as a direct consequence.

Thanks for your neutral and informative videos on solar system. With your videos assistance i have installed 8.7 kva on grid system at my home in September 22, But at the same time i have UPS backup which was previously installed. Anyway UPS helped me in evening / night on 23 Jan 2023 breakout. Except cooking every energy need is shifted on electricity and in four month my electricity bill is negative 24k.
